As the Guild Master finishes speaking and asks if anyone has questions you all see a Halfling woman wearing a dark cloak turn and walk over to the wooden board posted on the wall. You see Job Board is engraved on the top of the board and that a pair of parchments are posted there.
The Halfling runs her fingers over each of the two parchments frowning slightly as she does so before turning back toward the group gathered around the Guild Master.
"Excuse me, but these are jobs we can take on, right?" she asks with a high lilting voice, "As much as I'd like to laze around town, I'm broke and need some gold so we are free to take jobs, right?"
"Why yes!" replies Guild Master Harold Sikes, "Those notices were put up there a couple of days ago when the Duke let it be known that we would have Adventurers in town. I admire your initiative, ur...?
"Daisy." says the Halfling, "You have me on your books as Daisy Hodbringer. So, what's the rule in this Guild on taking one of these jobs. Do we have to run it past you and pay you a finder's fee or something?"
Sikes shakes his head, "No, just take the parchment and do the job. Your Guild Membership Fee has been paid by Duke John for this year, so I'm just acting as a...well as a clearing house so to speak. I keep the Hall running and see to putting up the jobs on the board, but you don't have to pay me anything to take on jobs."
"I see." Daisy nods, "Better than the last Guild I was a member of then."
"Oh, and I have another job to post. In case, anyone else wants to go right to work.", Guild Master Harold says as he steps over to the board and tacks up a third job.

An athletic looking young man sits politely, his attention focused on the Guild Master as he speaks. He wears leather armour, with a sword at his belt and and a bow by his side.
"My coins are low too, I need work." he speaks with the accent of a commoner. "Sir, when you were talking you said the Duke had a tax. How much do we have to pay?"

Re: IG: In the Guild Hall
Master Harold replies, "There is a 10% tax on the accessed value of any treasure brought in from the Wildlands. That would not apply anything you earn from jobs, such as these on the board. Not unless you discovered treasure in the completion of those jobs, then of course, you would have to pay the tax. That would be 1 silver piece tax on each 1 gold piece returned. And before you ask, the valuation is done by the Duke's Seneschal. That would be Sheriff Karlos Six Fingers or one of his bailiffs."shaidar wrote: ↑Sat Nov 02, 2024 8:30 pm Gaurbal

"Oh, and before you ask, if the treasure is not in coin, it's value will be whatever you sell it for here in Slateholm and no tax will be accessed prior to that." Harold smiles.
OOC: In Shadowdark, treasure in the form of coin spent on Carousing and Learning, is the primary way a PC advances. You get XP in the range of 0 to 3 total per adventure (mission/job) for anything else, coin spent on Carousing is the big multiplier. Items, magical or otherwise, help the PC in gameplay but aren't worth much in XP unless they are sold converted to coin. Oh, and remember the Gear Slots, if you don't have room to carry something you can't carry it! A second point about Gear Slots is that when a PC is exhausted they lose available gear slots and might have to drop things they are carrying...not RAW, but it makes sense to me so I'm going to enforce that.

An elven woman with white braided hair stepped up to the board. She wore a patterned silk shift that conformed to her slim but muscular body, and simple leather strapped sandals. "There is a wagoner who requires an escort," she says in accented Common. "Who would like to go with me? They pay seven gold for each of three people."

A rather emaciated-looking young man in a deep-cowled blue robe stands at the board near the elven woman. The corner of his mouth turns up in a sardonic smile as he peruses the jobs on offer. "A 'pious group'...I'm pious enough, I suppose, but I suspect they're interested more in followers of Ord, or Terragnis. I admire Ord's devotion to knowledge and hidden lore, but..."
He turns his head to look at the elf, his unkempt hair brushing the shoulder of the robe. "I'll join you on the trip, if you don't mind the company. Never hurts to get in good with the local apothecary."

She smiles easily. "I agree. I am Tinu. I am proficient with bow and sword. I can make useful preparations from plants, although I have to learn about what is here."Enoch wrote: ↑Sun Nov 03, 2024 12:28 am A rather emaciated-looking young man in a deep-cowled blue robe stands at the board near the elven woman. The halfling slaps a hand on the table, "and ol' Ferd makes three!" He grins at Tinu with a wink. "An escort job is just the sort of thing that can get things going here. I want to get out and see the forests myself - got to decide how many of these legends are true. There's some good ones about those forests, you see... what I've heard tell about The Western Forests could shake your nerve." He pats his crossbow and looks over the blue-cowled emaciated youth. "you got somethin' to avail yourself when trouble comes?"
Re: IG: In the Guild Hall
The robed man shifts uncomfortably. "A few charms and glamours. And a stout staff I can wield well enough, if all else fails.
"I'm interested in the legends of this land as well. I'm a...knowledge-seeker, I suppose."

Tinu takes the parchment down from the board. "Shall we find this Thistle's Apothecary, then?"

"Thank you sir" the young man says after the guild master answers his question.
He stands and goes over to the board and reads the remaining jobs "Undead in the graveyard. Saint Terragnis says it is the duty of the strong to protect the weak. Is anyone else interested in removing this threat?" he looks around the room at those remaining.

Master Harold shakes his head, "I can't imagine the Temple of Ord or the Priests of Saint Terragnis or Madeera the Covenent doing such a thing! Offer to buy it, perhaps, but not steal. They revere law and stealing is unlawful. There are few followers of Gede here in Slateholm, most prefer the Wilds to settled life, so their sway is limited, even so from what I know of them they would take a "possession is 9/10's of the law" position and say if Gede allowed you to find such an artifact then who are they to challenge it."
"The more chaotic gods are not worshiped here in Slateholm." he states flatly...he might be wrong in thinking that, but you get the impression he believes it.

A (very) comely human female (at least from the ribs down!) with her head and shoulders cowled with a travel blanket reads the notice board and sighs before snatching the "cellar clearing" task from its pin.
(OOC: Mary the Baker requests help ridding her cellar of rats and other vermin. One gold and a weeks worth of bread for those who can help).

"Everyone else says undead are dangerous... that only the truly desperate would take them on and I have easy work here for bowmen who need to eat". She seems confident enough and, despite the traveller's blanket she wraps about her upper body as a cowl, strikingly attractive too. Indeed her leather leggings betray an entirely "appreciable" form.shaidar wrote: ↑Sun Nov 03, 2024 8:52 am Gaurbal

"I'm Vesper. I won't mind you - unless you can shoot. You could glance my way - but if you looked... well, wouldn't that be you showing interest?" She flicks dark eyes his way. The woman's eye seems to settle on Galreth by chance and yet then she speaks to him directly - and then in the goblin tongue "Elder, you should come with us if you need to eat. Indeed, if there's anything bigger than rats to be shot we may need live bait - you still seem limber enough for the task...". She then switches to Goblinoid to add "And yet I'm willing to wager that someone with a specific interest in proscribed artefacts might well turn out to be... surprisingly useful...".ateno wrote: ↑Sun Nov 03, 2024 8:40 pm "Thank you Guild Master, I appreciate your candor.
