English dictionary for spell checking?
English dictionary for spell checking?
How difficult would it be to install a US English dictionary? Nothing against my game family across the pond, but flavor and flavour can confuse us simple minded folk. I try to reduce the number of spelling errors as much as possible.
Re: English dictionary for spell checking?
I think it already is, or at least on my computer it is.
Re: English dictionary for spell checking?
It is better to use the built in spell check on your browser, which should be the same one as your location. (US English, I assume). Can anyone in the UK comment on this?

Re: English dictionary for spell checking?
When it underlines a misspelled word in a post I am working on is that my browser or the site? It is definitely US English in my case but switching it to both US and British would be cool.
Re: English dictionary for spell checking?
That's your browser. I do see where there is a place where I can set up different language, but I can't figure out how to install a new one.

Thanks, I learned something new today.
Re: English dictionary for spell checking?
I did some testing: on this and another PHPBB site flavour was marked as correct, flavor was not. On Discord and Gmail the reverse was true. So it should be using the browser spell checker, but PHPBB defaults to UK English.
It's not a crisis, though. My browser (Firefox on Linux) is set for US English but I still can't spell worth a hoot.
Re: English dictionary for spell checking?
I poked a bit more and there's a secondary setting Right Click in the entry window, -> "Languages" -> Pick a language. For some reason PHPBB sites come up as UK English but the selection can be changed. I've set it to US English, let's see how it goes.
Re: English dictionary for spell checking?
The language setting for phpbb is to do with the language of the theme being used. Phpbb defaults to "UK english", but other language packs can be installed to allow the user to select another language in the control panel.. I do not believe that there is a spell checker, that is coming from your browser and the language is independent of the forum software.
