Dramatis Personae

#1 Post by Keehnelf »

This thread will contain the overview of who’s in this story, primarily the members of the Covenant and their allies. The first post will be for NPCs. More to come.
  • Genser Vestius of House Bonisagus (b. 1173) - Master of the Verdant Springs. Hunted by the Inquisition. Charismatic and steady.
  • Juvenus Calaver of House Criamon (b. 1189) - Former apprentice of Salvatus Leclerc. Reserved but well-spoken. Serves as public voice of the Covenant due to Genser's inability to travel.
  • Esmer d'Alsace of House Tytalus (b. 1191) - Compassionate but ascetic. Despite the age difference, was a close confidante of Salvatus Leclerc, the deceased former Master. Spends lots of time out in the wild.
  • Benedict de Jesu (b. 1208) - Esmer's apprentice. Hot-headed, combative and willful.
  • Aldus Manutius (b. 1179), the rotund and always jovial Covenant librarian
  • Shabsai Weil (b. 1189), scribe and scholar - can teach Latin and Hebrew
  • Simon Von Bek (b. 1211), Covenant guest, vocal student, and part-time apprentice to luthier Johannesburg. The son of noblewoman Allesandra Von Bek, a patroness of Arduin, who resides in nearby Basel.
  • Balthazar Dietl (b. 1190) - Lieutenant of the Covenant Guard (Grog)
  • Just more than one score covenfolk - servants, cooks, simple artisans, farmers, and a handful of guards. Roughly two-thirds of this number are Jewish refugees from the Thuringe pogrom twenty years past.

This thread will not be the place for keeping character sheets, but one post each for the Magus and Companion PCs will be great, according to the following template (once the character is ready to join the Chronicle):

-Character Name (include house, if a Magus)
-Year of Birth (the current year is 1221 so just count backward based on their age when they join the chronicle)

-Brief physical description (1-2 sentences)
-Brief biographical sketch (1-2 highlights of the most important life events if there are any that are worth sharing)
-Major ambitions or goals (1-2 at most. If they're included here they will be assumed to be known at least to the character's close contacts. You can also indicate if they're hidden or only revealed to specific folks, but want them known for RP purposes so the other players can support the stories inherent in them)

Bran Fhithich (House Bjornaer)
Born 1195

Bran is a thin, wiry human. His straight, jet-black hair and black eyes stand in stark contrast to his pale skin. He has a wide, aquiline nose. Constantly seems distracted by an unseen force.
Born and spent his childhood in Ireland. In a brief moment of cruelty in childhood, he convinced his friend he could fly. His friend jumped from a cliff and perished. He is tormented by the ghost of his childhood friend (and of his action). His major ambitions include satisfying the ghost so it will go away (to the extent Bran can hide this, he will). The constant intrusion and distraction of the ghost is the reason for his very poor Dexterity.

Bran traveled to Alsace to avail of better opportunities as an apprentice. Despite having The Gift, he found ways during his travels to set commoners' minds at ease (Gentle Gift). His other chief ambition is to raise the esteem of House Bjornaer across all Magi.

Should Bran require a companion in his story…

Cugel the Clever
Year of Birth: 1191

Cugel was a man of many capabilities, with a disposition at once both flexible and pertinacious. He was long of leg, deft of hand, light of finger, soft of tongue. His hair was the blackest of black fur, growing low down his forehead, coving sharply back above his eyebrows. His darting eye, long inquisitive nose and droll mouth gave his somewhat lean and bony face an expression of vivacity, candor, and affability. He had known many vicissitudes, gaining therefrom a suppleness, a fine discretion, a mastery of both bravado and stealth..." (from The Eyes of the Overworld, by Jack Vance)

Recent Capers: Recently returned from a lengthy and tricky job securing spell components for an unnamed magus. These included a vial of menstrual blood from a Greek virgin, droppings from a harpy, a ground tooth of a giant, and rare grapes growing on a certain cliffside in Italy then pressed by virgins feet under the light of a full moon.

Ambitions: 1) Achieve a position of financial and spiritual comfort in life. 2) Learn the mysteries of Trust.

Gertrude von Lithrigen
Born in 1190

A short, somewhat frail woman in her early 30s. Unremarkable visage, but looks young for her age given her wealthy and gentle upbringing.

Devoted to her husband, Theobald Duke of Lorraine. Unfortunately Theobald took the wrong side in a dispute with Emperor Frederick II and he was imprisoned, where he died. She seeks refuge in the covenant to avoid a forced marriage to a cruel former enemy of her husband.

She wishes to see her homeland under favorable rule, and to regain what influence she once had in neighboring Lorraine. Of course, she would not mind even more power...

𝔸𝕣𝕕𝕦𝕚𝕟 𝔸𝕣𝕔𝕙𝕒𝕞𝕓𝕖𝕒𝕦
ᕚ Magus ᕘ
House Jerbiton

Born 1195

Arduin is an up-and-coming artcanist and musicromancer, combining art, song, music and magick. His melding of these arts produces wondrous effects. He performs in public venues, recently in a few noble and royal courts, and accepts private commissions and patrons.

Description: Fair skinned, a welcoming smile, deep blue eyes and long white-blond or raven tresses (depending on mood), Arduin is ambiguously beautiful. He is 5'9', toned, fluid in movement, quick in mind, sharp witted. He enjoys the finer things in life.

Arduin became an accomplished singer and lutist, known for his ability to switch timbers in his voice to sound male or female. Major goals: Arduin is beginning to merge sorcery and sensuality, seeking to develop unique dweomers. It is rumored he pushes the boundaries of erotic exploration in his relations with different fey races.

Guirec Gwernig, Magus

Born 1196 (25 years old)

Gueric possesses an otherworldly beauty that sets him apart from ordinary mortals. Standing at a height slightly taller than average, around 5 feet 9 inches, he carries himself with a graceful, almost ethereal demeanor. His lithe, slender frame moves with a fluidity that hints at his fae heritage, as if he is perpetually dancing to an unheard melody. His most striking feature is his eyes – large, almond-shaped, and vividly colored, one an emerald green and the other a sapphire blue. His ears, normally kept covered under his locks of hair, come to a subtle point.

Gueric is the child of Armel Guernig, a Breton village cooper, and a rather powerful Sidhe, who raised him after the father returned to the Mortal Realm. When Guiric was old enough to apprentice as a magus, Melio Le Metayer, a magus friend of Armel's, convinced him to steal into the Realm of Faerie and kidnap the child. When Gueric's mother realized he was missing some years later, she was furious, and in a fit of spite revealed Le Metayer's secret to his covenant: his lineage was a direct descent from the druids of House Diedne. Guirec fled to Alsace to escape the fallout.

Most do not know why this magus has travelled to Alsace. He's vague as to the reason, merely mentioning some political difficulties in his previous covenant. He wishes to smooth out his relationship with his mother so that her desire to be involved in his life doesn't cause him quite so many problems.
