Hagalton; 339D/81 (Noon)

Image

“The Ki-Ro-Tab Knights are an elusive cult from what I gather,” Hiona adds. “Although in opposition to Motter, they have their own desires for control of the Inner Gam’A Zone.”

Image

Tamah expressively doubts disheveled Max’s claim of service but accepts his offer. “Strength in numbers.” He nods an appreciative acknowledgement to Denslow’s oath. “My sword and blaster back you, Plister Plantient.”

---

Bruce pays Yar the 120 coin to modify the stun rod.

Image

“Come back late tomorrow, goop-man, and this will be ready.”

Hagalton; 341D/81 (Morning)

Both groups rally just outside Hagalton, south of town. Mounts and beasts of burden are prepared for the three-day journey to the border of Motter’s realm. Some locals mock your band as willingly going to their deaths. Tamah’s brooding stare hastens them on their way. Hiona’s band includes three retainers, bringing their total to six. Your group numbers five.

The trek across the salt waste is uneventful. You reach the barrier in late afternoon and Hiona suggests you rest. She wants to cross at night while the veil is fully visible, not wanting to chance interaction with the light rays. After sunset, you spend several hours negotiating the holes in the light curtain.
Image

The veils should be harmless, but you comply with Hiona and navigate through the paths. You camp several hundred yards inside the barrier and pass the night. At dawn, you begin the march into Motter’s territory.

The Gam'A Zone; 344D/81 (Mid Day)

Sometime mid-day, clear sky, no observable activity, a bright flash of purple-blue light overwhelms everyone’s senses, including the androids.

Image

When the blinding envelope of light clears, your group is alone and in a similar but different location of the desolate waste. Hiona’s group is nowhere to be seen.

A dust storm whips up from the southwest. A low rumbling sound emits from the front before the storm dissipates, revealing six roundish objects moving forward. They float about three feet above the ground. Thousand-yard-long green light beams intermittently scan to and fro, ultimately pointing in your direction! The objects are over a thousand yards away and rapidly approach!

Silvestri desperately glances around for somewhere to hide

"Artic said that Motter sends her metal minions out searching for organics for food. We either hide, although I'm not sure where, or be ready to fight"

Bruce

Casting about for a reasonably defensible area, he urgently suggests to the group "Quick! Let's deploy the Security Fence! Maybe it'll keep them at bay."

Max will ready his crossbow, but hold fire until he feels the baddies are actually bad.

Kurot will get low and take careful aim with his rifle at the approaching presumptive baddies. But like the others, he waits to fire until hostile intentions are confirmed.

"Do you suppose it would be useful for Bruce and myself to speak for the group, as non-biological life forms?" he asks as he gets into position. "On the one hand, hostile mechanical entities are less likely to see us as food to be retrieved for their master. On the other hand, they might see us at parts."

Max harrumphs at Kurot and says, I can try as well. Often the great ones prefer a human to communicate with.

Inside the fence seems the most prudent positioning.

After helping to set up the fence, Denslow takes a step back, letting the robots move forward (staying within the perimeter).

Max watches as the fence is activated and then steps forward to greet the floating trash cans. He wants to be in front (but within the perimeter).

If one of the green light beams passes over him, he will raise one hand to be recognized.

Bruce

Takes position next to Kurot (if so) at the forefront in front of the organics but behind the security fence.

The Gam'A Zone; 344D/81 (Mid Day)

Noticing no significant terrain features for defense and concealment, Silvestri, Denslow and Bruce unpack and deploy the security fence artifact with haste and focus. Max and Kurot ready their ranged weapons and watch the objects move closer to your position.

Once the screen is activated, Kurot and Bruce position themselves at the forefront within the security perimeter with the others behind. Max moves and stands by their side waiting for an opportunity to greet the presumed “smart metal” objects from a bygone epoch. The six objects decelerate and stop around 25 feet away.

The round objects are about three feet in diameter and sprout several protrusions, one connected to an odd sword. An articulated cylinder at the top of the sphere is the source of the piercing green light. A stack of irregular shapes next to the light tube supports an insect-like head with multiple “eyes”.

Image

The green light beams scan into the defensive square. The lights shine onto everyone but hesitate on Bruce and especially Kurot. Max raises his hand when the beam passes across his body, but the objects do not appear to show an interest.

One of the objects flashes a bright, white light from its beam cylinder at Kurot and emits a series of chirps and squeals, “100101010011-101010101101011110110000110101011101- 1101000011010”.

The android recognizes the nature of the language but doesn’t immediately understand it.

Kurot struggles to make sense of the chirps and squeals. It seems almost familiar, and yet so strange. As hard he tries, though, he can’t quite decode the language using logic alone. He realizes he must resort to nondeterministic methods—or what is commonly described as the “lucky guess.”

Int check: [1d20+2]=6+2=8

I may regret this, but it seems like a crucial moment so I’ll burn all 7 of Kurot’s luck points to make that roll a success.

No he won't. Denslow will burn 2 luck to give Kurot 4 luck. Now all Kurot needs to burn is 3.
