[002] Away Boarders!

Over the next twenty minutes, everyone who is joining the away team gathers in the vestibule outside the pinnace's entry hatch. The ship's CPO is there to check that everyone's weapons are safed and not chambered, and that everyone's armor or vacc suits are airtight. He looks to Foix. "Sir, are you ready to board?"

She can wear a civilian model, but it doesn't have the HUD and other features of a military or security type. It does protect the wearer as light cloth body armor, though.

She puts on her vacc suit, gets her laser rifle, and joins the boarding party.

Anne checks her suit and weapons. She ensures her hand computer and spare ammo is securely attached and also checks that the link from her suit to her data-display is functioning properly.

Anne's HUD shows everyone else's position and life support stats, along with a moving map of the ship. All of this information is user-configurable, of course. All of the suit indicators are normal, and she has a good comm and data connection.

The CPO steps over to her and quickly goes through her "battle rattle" check, and her suit fabric "whuffs" tight as they go through the integrity inspection. "Looks good, Ma'am." He repeats the process with all five people in the bay, and then he steps back to the pinnace's hatch.

"Comm check, everyone," Vee calls over their newly established team channel. "Foix, Anne, Taheri, Josephine, Rock, Zheyna," she calls names as people respond to her.

Rock, now some distance away on the other vessel, responds somewhat belatedly!

Foix nods acknowledgement to Taheri and facilitates the CPO's "buddy check" with practiced ease and takes his place in the pinnace passenger compartment. He has clearly loaded for bear and carries a support variant of a standard military longarm with a belt feed running from a box magazine. His non standard pouches contain grenades, standard rifle mags and a pistol. He also hefts a box of what could be spare ammo and a heavy crowbar.

"Um ... room for one more?" the portly Grimaud breathlessly arrives at the entrance hatch festooned in a tangle of webbing containing an SMG its ammo and a pistol. He looks uncomfortable in his vacc suit which seems to fit where it touches and mops his face with a large 'kerchief. He appears to be in an entirely unmilitary state but Foix greets him warmly "Ah, you decided to come along, mon vieux!" Seemingly pleased Foix slaps the arm of his seat in satisfaction.

So once we rescue the kids, what's the final boarding plan?

While the plan is still under development...

The basic planks of it are:
a stealthy approach from behind the cruiser,
board via the same hangar as the previous boarders (because that was proven safe),
pick up their "trail" inside the ship and rescue them,
plant the charges and then home for tea and medals!

Refinements are, of course, always welcome!

Josephine responds to the comm check when called. She pulls at parts of the suit, the snugness of it being uncomfortable. She glances about, her eyes are a little wider than normal. Occasions for wearing a vacc suit have been nearly non-existent, and now she's stumbling off on this mad adventure. Her native curiosity and interest in the new has her heart thudding again.

The tension in her mouth eases when Grimaud makes his way aboard. Of everyone aboard, he is the one she is most easy with. It must be his marvelous skill in the kitchen.

The CPO ensures that everyone is seated, then he closes the hatch. "Green board, ready to disconnect," he says over the comm to the pilot. The cockpit door is open, so everyone can hear the conversation. "Flight, Princess Two is ready to undock."

"Princess Two, undock approved, depart heading 2-8-0 by 3-4-0 relative, thrusters only for one minute, then accel at three point one gees to intercept Princess One."

"Okay, thrusters for one, 2-8-0 by 3-4-0, three point one for P-One, intercept course received. Here we go."

The pinnace shudders gently, and a series of thumps sound through the hull as the docking tube disengages from the boat's port forward door. The thrusters rumble, and the ship disappears as the boat pivots in all three axes onto its outbound heading. "Stand by for acceleration," the pilot intones. Then, the occupants are shoved back in their seats as the pinnace accelerates away, with just under two gees of the thrust overcoming the boat's gravtic compensators.

Aboard Princess One, their CPO looks up from his panel. "The other boat is inbound; they are running hard, so they will be here in forty minutes."

She looks more comfortable, now that things are moving along. Nothing like being on a mission again. Aaaah.

Anne is relaxed as the ship undocks and accelerates

Once the acceleration becomes manageable, she activates comms "Comte, Taheri and I looked over the specs and the scan information. There isn't much to go on but the current best option for boarding is the forward hanger bays, they show signs of damage. Other options may present themselves when we get into visual range.

Aboard both pinnaces, the respective CPOs update their passenger - the two boats will make a zero-zero intercept at 0940.

Had to work this out on paper. The Lady is moving ahead at 1g accel, and leaving the life pod as it diverges on its own vector.

Five minutes into the flight, the pinnace pitches her nose upward and over to the folk in the cabin, points her tail in the direction of flight, and starts her engines again. This time, only a little of the pressure leaks through the compensator field. "We'll be at zero-zero with the other boat and the life pod in five minutes," the CPO announces.
