Character Creation Q&A

#1 Post by Paladin »

Hello! In the interest of doing something different, I'll roll several arrays of scores and post them here. You may claim the one(s) you like and adjust the scores to raise your prime requisite as allowed in the book.

You're welcome to use the US character sheet or assemble the info in whatever manner suits you. I won't be policing supplies and encumbrance too hard, since we're all adults and can police ourselves. If you run out of something or carry too heavy a load and I don't notice, tip me off and we'll adjust your movement or apply penalties.

I'll try to post those scores this afternoon when I get a break from work. Till then, feel free to discuss anything you like in the general chat thread.

Campaign ID is 850.

I rolled 12 sets of attributes and divided them into 4 groups of 3 sets apiece, from which each of you may select one. Or two, if you wish to play multiple characters. Scores may be adjusted, though not re-ordered, as noted in the Basic Rules.

Attributes are listed in the order of STR, INT, WIS, CON, DEX, CHA.

Rex:

12, 12, 9, 8, 11, 13
15, 15, 9, 16, 13, 11
7, 18, 15, 13, 14, 10

Tibbius:

11, 14, 11, 16, 9, 9
9, 11, 13, 14, 12, 8
7, 7, 6, 6, 18, 10

ToniXX:

13, 9, 14, 8, 8, 16
8, 17, 10, 7, 7, 9
6, 7, 12, 10, 13, 8

Ithril:

11, 14, 13, 12, 9, 12
9, 7, 8, 8, 15, 13
12, 14, 7, 14, 13, 7

redwarrior

10, 16, 10, 7, 5, 8
14, 7, 13, 14, 8, 11
5, 12, 13, 12, 8, 12

ADJUSTING ABILITY SCORES
It is possible to raise a character's scores in a prime
requisite by lowering the scores of some of the other
abilities. This recognizes that one can practice and
learn feats of fighting, intelligence, etc., but must take
a penalty in another area by so doing.

Magic-users and clerics can reduce their strength
scores by 3 points and add 1 to their prime requisite for
every 3.

Fighting men, clerics, halflings and dwarves can
reduce their Intelligence score by 2 points and add 1 to
their prime requisite for every 2.

Fighting men, halflings and dwarves can reduce
their wisdom by 3 points, and magic-users can reduce it
by 2 to gain 1 point for their prime requisites.

Thieves can raise their dexterity score by lowering
intelligence 2 points and wisdom 1 point for each ad-
ditional point of dexterity.

Constitution and charisma can not be altered, and
dexterity can not be reduced.

In no case can any ability be lowered below 9.

Starting gold for all players is 3d6x10. You may post your roll if you like, but it isn't required.

If you wish to pool your gold and help each other purchase starting equipment, please do.

Can we trade one of our sets to another player, assuming they agree of course? I have 2 sets better then some of the others best set so would be willing to trade whatever one I don't choose to someone else to boost the party.

I like the idea of getting what we get and having to make hard decisions on class and party composition based upon the luck of the dice, so for the moment we'll stick each with our own set. If it doesn't pan out, we'll reexamine that.

Pooling gold is fine, though.

I'll take this one:

INT: 9
WIS: 14
CON: 8
DEX: 8
CHA: 16

I'll be a very comely human female cleric

So I rolled a 1 for hit points. I'll work with it but I fear my character won't last long.

Also, if someone rolls a lot of starting gold, I could use 10gp for a shield.

I didn't roll well for GP. I can donate 6 gp to whoever to help out. I have Chain Mail so if we end up with 20 gp extra I could upgrade to plate. The cleric should get the defensive upgrades first though.

I'm going to run with Rowanson, The fighting Elven Mage (F/MU)
STR 10
INT 16
WIS 10
CON 7
DEX 5
CHA 8

I'll flesh the character out as time permits today. I might just go with straight mage. Should have my full character up this evening.

I may make a magic-user or cleric as back up. Don't usually run M/U so it is more likely to be a cleric. My third set is good for either.

Posting Rowanson in a sec.
Thinking I will make a second character out of this one, either a fighter or a cleric. Should have him up this afternoon.

Yea, I was unable to roll last night. Rolled HP and GP this morning. The cleric got 50gp my fighter 70 or 80.

I chose Tibbius' third set of rolls to create a thief ... because the party lacked a thief and those rolls looked like the worst set of any player, but they could make a great thief. I just couldn't resist the challenge.

Igber 'the Mop' [named using the Holmes random name generator] is a Journeyman Gemcutter with no head for business that took to stealing to avoid starving. Merchants and Town Guard are beginning to suspect, so Igber needs a change of plan (and venue). He has decided to become an "Adventurer" ... just as soon as he can figure out exactly what it is that an adventurer does.

Igber's Rolls:
HP: [1d4-1] = 4-1 = 3
Starting GP: [2d6] = 5 ... I forgot the x10, so 50 GP
