Maximillian Arikas' and Professor Perryton's start
Re: Maximillian Arikas' and Professor Perryton's start
The Professor answers the phone. "Of course. I was just passing on your regards. I'm sure everything will go swimmingly. Well, perhaps there is a better turn of phrase. Swimming where we're headed would be a sign that things are going very poorly indeed. Smoothly. I'm sure everything will go smoothly. In large part thanks to your beneficence, Joseph. So, you go tend to your business, and don't spare a concern for us."

Maximillian Arikas to Professor Perryton:
"Ok, Professor when do we depart for the submarine?"
"Ok, Professor when do we depart for the submarine?"
Re: Maximillian Arikas' and Professor Perryton's start
Perryton pulls out a pocket diary from the inside of his tweed jacket. "We weren't scheduled to leave for several weeks. But I've just been to see our transport, and it appears ready to disembark. And your father has ironed out all of our legal and administrative wrinkles. And I was just informed that the faculty senate is about to meet, and I'd rather not be around to get roped into that. What do you say we step up our plans and head out tomorrow? The only loose end would be requesting a change of entry from the Moon Gorillas. And they place such store hospitality that I can't imagine they'd say no."
Perryton waves his hands vaguely at the stacks of books and papers and steel cases with dire warnings on them. "Just pack this stuff up and a few changes of clothes. Lost Gorillapolis contains several different climates, so be prepared to dress in layers."

Re: Maximillian Arikas' and Professor Perryton's start
The task of packing up for the trip is uneventful, though Max does make funny faces at times when he reads the prepared materials listed provided by the professor. "Really?! He frequently thought to himself. I need to bring this along?" After having packed, which only took a few hours of his time, Max spent the rest of the day flipping through the television and decided to watch some news. Lot's of intereresting things were going on, but most of it seemed old hat when compared to other stories he has heard. Mysterious bombings taking place on mountain side areas, a few heroes dying in a failed capture of a villian, a drug bust near a local chinese restaurant called The Happy Eggroll.
The day passes boringly slow as Professor Perryton turns off the television and forces Max to read up on that submarine manual a bit more closely, spouting something about being a prepared just in case. (Pyro, you will be making an intelligence check to see how much of the book you are able to put to memory. Checks in general are performed with only a 1d100 roll. Usually, the higher the better in most cases.)
And before they even know it, the day for departure has arrived. Max finds himself following the Professor through a port observatory near the waterfront district, and into a secretly hidden tunnel with mechanized sliding doors and everything. Professor Perryton comes up to a keypad and punches in the necessary code. The door opens and this is what Max sees for the first time, the Professor being his second.

Re: Maximillian Arikas' and Professor Perryton's start
With this kind of score, your character is able to get a general feel for how to operate most of the equipment inside, using the information you have recieved from the submarine manual. With the help of the onboard crew, no task will be too difficult for Max.
Re: Maximillian Arikas' and Professor Perryton's start
"Maximillian Arikas, welcome aboard the... oh, blast, what is the name? Captain, what is this ship called? Wouldn't do to board with invoking her spirit, now, would it?"
Re: Maximillian Arikas' and Professor Perryton's start
"The SSI Acmon sir! She is ready to depart when you are and is at full functionality."
Re: Maximillian Arikas' and Professor Perryton's start
Perryton raises his eyebrows. "The Acmon? We'll be maintaining our simian motif, I see. Let us hope that is a good sign."
"Captain, could you spare a few men to help bring a few items in? Please ask them to take special care with the metal case, and have it brought directly to my cabin."

Re: Maximillian Arikas' and Professor Perryton's start
"After we see our things securely stored away, I'll give you a tour. I poked my nose around rather exhaustively, yesterday. And we should let the Captain and his men set about embarking."
Re: Maximillian Arikas' and Professor Perryton's start
The tour was made, the crew was given their orders and carried them out, storing away everything that needed to be stored. The descent was exhilarating for Max and quite fascinating for the Professor. While on board, Perryton catalogued and took note of the migratory patterns of the creatures from his earlier discussions as well as other pertinent information, using the submarine's sophisticated technology to get things done smoothly and efficiently. Max, however, was more fascinated by the creatures with the bio luminescent lights. It was a first time for him, seeing such things up close like this, better than watching it on the discovery channel or looking at pictures in a book, heaven forbid he should ever willingly touch one of those things!
And before they even knew it, they reached their destination, the lost city of Gorillapolis, now found.
Well, at least the entrance to the city was found...the professor surmises that this is but the tip of the iceberg from here on out.

Re: Maximillian Arikas' and Professor Perryton's start
The Professor heads to the radio room, where he has previously jury-rigged a transmitter to communicate on the wavelengths monitored by the Moon Gorillas. "Ahoy ahoy, this is Professor Percival Perryton, aboard the SSI Acmon, hailing Lost Gorillapolis. Come in Lost Gorillapolis."
"We are requesting permission to board and enter for purposes of research and trade. I have a hospitality visa, issued by the Office of Non-Gorilla Affairs... ah, where is it... there, now... let me get my glasses... Yes, here we are, Number 00000002. Hmm. My last hospitality visa was 00000001. Not getting a lot of visitors, are we?"

Re: Maximillian Arikas' and Professor Perryton's start
An opening appears in the center of a rock formation near the trench's floor. No reponses are picked up on the transmitter, but the sudden opening can only mean that either it was meant to open automatically for any nearby vessels, or that someone or something manually engaged it from within. The crew of the submarine awaits the Professor's next set of orders. Of course, being that the Professor knows next to nothing on naval navigation and knowing how to give such orders, he has Max translate for him.

Re: Maximillian Arikas' and Professor Perryton's start
Maximillian Arikas says,
"Uhmm, Professor, is it wise to take all of us in or do we just send the smaller exploratory sub in with you & I?"
That is of course, if this sub has a smaller craft that doubles as a drone.

Re: Maximillian Arikas' and Professor Perryton's start
One of the crewmen turns to Maximillian and says with all due respect, "the SSI Acmon does not have such a craft on board, that and your father gave us strict orders to accompany you and the professor during your expedition."PyroArrow wrote:Maximillian Arikas says,

The captain of the submarine then asks Professor Perryton "sir, permission to enter, sir?"
Re: Maximillian Arikas' and Professor Perryton's start
"Mmm. They have been kind enough enough to open the door, it would be rude of us to linger on their front stoop. "
"Should you or your men directly encounter any of the Moon Gorillas, it is vital that you never place yourself in a vertically superior position to one. Stay seated, if possible. Stoop, if necessary. You do not want to any of them thinking you are challenging their dominance."
"Max, you and I, on the other hand, will probably be challenged immediately. Don't worry. The gorillas are fearsomely strong, but nothing you can't handle. Don't hurt or humiliate your challenger, simply tussle around a bit until they get a sense of your mettle, and let them back off with their dignity intact."
