*shrug*. I figured you guys would come up with a reason to march six bound and gagged captives into Threshold, with no direct evidence of malfeasance except what one of the -- obviously ensorcelled -- prisoners has to say.

Oh my god. What have we done! We may never be able to set foot in Threshold again! Can we just let the guys go, and say something like, "no hard feelings"?

Well Bargle & Elwyn have a connection to the death of Aleena and her companion and these guys were headed up to the caves where Aleena was killed to get payment from Bargle's men. It could be argued that they fell across the plans of these two (who seem to be known as "n'ver do-gooders") and were killed for it. Plus they were heading to a place where humanoids are known to gather and conspire to collect payment from them. While not a crime in and of itself, I doubt they went up to get payment for some farmland that was tilled.

As for the authorities, I would turn them first over to the Church and see what they would want to do with them before going to the regular authorities. As mentioned, they are connected to the death of Aleena, abeit in a round-about way. Plus, the authorities seem to know that both Elwyn and Barge are up to no good and probably would like to investigate further what they are up to. However, Tratiln feels we've done all we can at this juncture into what Elwyn's and Bargle's plans are until more information is either given to us or found out (by exploring further into the caves).

These guys are working for Elwyn, and were involved in a transaction with the guy who is the suspected murderer of Aleena.

Last time we spoke with Varis (pages 25 and 26 of the IC thread) he was concerned about the schemes between Bargle and Elwyn and we told him we would be waiting for these guys.

In any case, marching into the city with them bound and gagged sounds like a bad idea as these men are not wanted (as far as we know) and we have no authority ourselves.

I think we can do as suggested earlier, two of us ride ahead to the city and seek the advice of Father Varis. If he thinks these guys should be handed to the guards for questioning we can alert the guards and hand them over when the rest of the group arrives, otherwise we see what the cleric suggests and go with it.

Sounds reasonable. Let me know who will ride into town first and we can take the action back to town.

Sounds good to me too. I think Meagnor should stay to keep his stinky "friend" under control.

I think one of the elves and/or Marodin would lend credibility to our story.

Whoever goes should take the medallion as evidence of these guys' allegiance to Elwyn's evil cult.

BTW, Saul is playing good cop/bad cop/wait, I wanna be the bad cop now. He won't actually go through with any threats of violence.

He is still not up for killing a helpless man just for the eviluz.

Sounds good to me. In addition to the cleric's medallion, don't forget our other key piece of evidence (which Tratiln carries) - the letter from Bargle to Elwyn that was in the chest (the contents of which are detailed in the "Player's Notes" thread).

Bregalad the elf

The guards may think it strange to see elves and a dwarf bringing bound humans into a human city. It may be better for the humans in our party to do the explaining.

Sorry, what I mean is this:

The explaining would be done by the two riding ahead of the group. Since the prisoners are being taken on their cart the two riders will have sufficient time to arrive in the city and contact Varis.

I forgot to mention that 1) Lanny supports the idea of sending Tratiln and Marodin ahead of the group, 2) he supports the idea of their going directly to the church authorities first, only involving the town guard if the church authorities recommend it, and 3) he strongly recommends that the prisoners remain bound and gagged while they ride on the cart (he does not want them to verbally interfere with the charm spell, or to raise a commotion and complain to all the people that they will be passing on the road back to Threshold (and when they actually arrive in Threshold). Lanny offers to accept personal responsibility for any legal trouble that may arise with the town authorities for their handling of the prisoners.

Why don't we find out where they are going to meet Elwyn and then impersonate them by using cloaks and the cover of shadow/night?

I like that idea! That feels more right than bringing the men into the city.

However, if we do end up bringing them into the city, then once this has been completed, Bregalad would rather be done with the whole "Bargle/Elwyn mission" for now, and move onto more adventuring!

I think the main issue is that this place they identified (somewhere on the Highreach River near Penhaligon) is going to be pretty far away, and could take us a week or more just to get there. I think the church authorities could possibly help us in trying to find out the exact location of the Elwyn's hideout.

Thanks Bregalad! We elves must hang together when confronting the authorities... or we will most assuredly hang separately! ;)

Saul isn't parting with the medallion as he wants it for himself, he is willing to go along and show the medallion and if it has to stay behind he'll just steal it later.

If Saul wishes to hold on to the medallion, perhaps he could ride ahead with Tratiln and Marodin back to Threshold before the rest of the group arrives there, to be able to show it to the church authorities.

Grey Jake thinks a few horsemen get sent ahead to talk to the church, and then the church can advise us what to do with our suspects. In the meantime, we just guard them
