I'm good to go when you are Zhym.

Re: Character Creation Thread
Give me a day or so to finish up my halfling (by popular demand) and I'll be all set. Just an HP roll and buying equipment.
Any house rules for buying/using caltrops?

What would you suggest?
Off the top of my head, for caltrops to (1) not be easily avoided and (2) do damage (or slow movement) they'd need to be fairly large and you'd have to have a lot of them.

Re: Character Creation Thread
I was just thinking that, when confronted by a small hoard of goblins or the like, the usual answer (at least for me) tends to be a sleep spell or fire. We don't have a MU. I was just trying to think of flavorful alternatives ahead of time. Caltrops seems low tech enough and cheap enough for starting PCs. (Smoke bombs didn't seem as likely.)
I've never claimed to be any good at creating rules that don't break games... With that in mind, perhaps 5-10cp to purchase has a large pouch/small sack of glass/pottery shard and some coarse gravel? A quantity sufficient to fill a tunnel for 4-5 feet sufficiently to cause 1d4+1 (barefoot) creatures 1d4 (or 1d6) damage and slow movement by 50%? Maybe weighing twice what a set of sling stones does?
Also, perhaps a 50-100' spool of fishing line for a few coppers, to be used as trip wire. Am I going overboard here?

I’ll be good to go by end of day tomorrow. Got a much better roll the second time around. I haven’t picked a class yet but are we really doing the band of thieves thing? Everybody sure we don’t want another role?

For one thing, who says goblins are barefoot? Maybe they wear hard boots. Or maybe anything that moves around in dungeons has thick enough soles that it might as well be wearing hard boots. So anything that's like broken glass or rough gravel probably isn't going to be enough to slow most dungeon denizens.
Also, keep in mind: if we add caltrops to the game, you aren't the only ones who get to use them.

Seems like we're really doing the band of thieves and Halflings thing but I'd just say play whatever you think you'll have the most fun with, unhindered by any concerns about party balance.The_Wanderer wrote:I’ll be good to go by end of day tomorrow. I second kinkajous's sentiment. Play what feels fun!

Re: Character Creation Thread
3rd that from me play what feels right/fun lets not worry overly much about party balance besides if one character dies we can fairly quickly roll up a new one provide the DM allows and we can make it something the party is lacking.

Hey -Sorry I'm late. Checking in now. Will work on a character tonight.
Re: Character Creation Thread
Looks like you need some muscle and magic!

Re: Character Creation Thread
You could always play a fighter who thinks he's a thief!
This reminds me of when I handed out ability scores ahead of time and asked my players to finish their characters at home, and out of sheer coincidence all but one of them showed up to the game with a cleric. They tried to turn everything.

Re: Character Creation Thread
I am a halfling, sort of fighter like. Play what you think you would enjoy, let the rest sort itself out.

Rolls. Not sure if I'll go in order or move them around.

Re: Character Creation Thread
Rusty and The_Wanderer, are you still on track to be done with your characters soon? I'd like to get started this weekend if possible, but no rush if you need more time—I want this game to go at the players' pace.
