Character Creation Instructions

Please use the Unseen Servant dice roller to roll your characters.
Campaign ID: 679

Ability Scores
Roll 3d6 six times. You may use a macro or the "Roll Stats" function on the dice roller. Your choice. You may arrange the rolls in any order you like, but taking them in the order rolled is the most old-school way to do it.

Prime requisite scores may be adjusted by lowering one score by 2 to increase another by 1, subject to the following restrictions:
  • No score may be lowered below 9 or raised above 18.
  • Strength may be lowered by magic-users in order to raise Intelligence, and by clerics in order to raise Wisdom.
  • Intelligence may be lowered by fighters, dwarves, halflings, thieves, and clerics in order to raise a prime requisite of their class.
  • Wisdom may be lowered by magic-users, fighters, dwarves, elves, halflings, and thieves in order to raise a prime requisite for their class.
  • Dexterity may not be lowered, though it can be raised if it is a prime requisite.
  • Constitution and Charisma may not be raised or lowered.
Starting Level
All PCs begin at first level.

Hit Points
Roll for all hit points, including at first level. You may re-roll 1s.

Starting Money and Equipment
Starting Money: 3d6x10
All equipment in pp. B12 or X9 are available at the listed prices.

Starting Spells
Magic Users start with two 1st-level and one 2nd-level spell in their spell books. The player chooses which spells. Note that Read Magic is not automatically known in B/X.

oh boy.... guess i get to see how well i can role-play low stats...any chance re-rolls are allowed for anything lower than a 6? :?

Stat Rolls [3d6] = 8 [3d6] = 10 [3d6] = 6 [3d6] = 4 [3d6] = 11 [3d6] = 6

Wow. That's impressively bad.

Yeah, feel free to take a mulligan on that.

Was going for the true old school roll as is too so man taking the mulligan for sure. Those rolls in order yikes.

Mulligan re-rolled stats: Stat Rolls [3d6] = 13 [3d6] = 12 [3d6] = 15 [3d6] = 11 [3d6] = 7 [3d6] = 8

on the fly roll to help with class dilemma Character Class [1d6] = 1 1-2 Thief, 3-4 Fighter, 5-6 Dwarf Thief it is. ;)

Lowered INT to raise Dex 2 more.

Oh, and not that you're doing this, but let me warn everyone against using Charisma as a dump stat. Charisma will affect encounter reactions, and could make the difference between making friends and enemies in the dungeon—or at least avoiding combat if you're injured.

Also, I may house rule a charisma table that looks like the other tables (i.e., 13-15=+1, 16-17=+2, and 18=+3).

Stats: STR:13, INT:8, WIS:6, DEX:13, CON:9, CHR:10

[1d4] = 4 hit points, [3d6] = 16 x 10 gp

I’ll make a thief since I’ve yet to play one in a game on these boards. I fully expect Geoff (G.F., for ‘goblin fodder ‘) not to last very long anyway before rolling up a new guy.

Question Zhym: how do you envision the game structure? Will we be sticking with one PC until death do us part, or will we have the chance to keep a stable of characters in town?

Stats: STR:13, INT:6, WIS:9, DEX:15, CON:11, CHR:14
Cash-money [3d6] = 10

Not a bad set of stat rolls. I'll go with a halfling.

You can roll up a backup PC if you want, but only one character will be active at a time.

Also, it looks like a band of thieves so far. Interesting. :)

I don't have to be a thief I could change that. If I do I'll have to adjust the stats that i raised and lowered. But I am quite fine with it. I just didn't want to play a spell caster this time. So I still have choices. Then again with a CON of 7 I might just keep as is.

Roll for HP: HP [1d4] = 1 sigh....
Re-Roll for HP: HP [1d4] = 2  yup that's about right....

Starting Coin [3d6x10] = 6x10 = 60

screwed up Int roll due to not paying attention.

Str [3d6] = 10 Int [3dr] = err Wis [3d6] = 6 Dex [3d6] = 15 Con [3d6] = 12 Chr [3d6] = 7

Int [3d6] = 9

Looks like another Thief or Halfling. Going Halfling.

[3d6] = 11*10 gp

110gp

[1d6] = 5 HP

I kind of like the idea of a party full of thieves and halflings. I'll have to up the trap probability to give you all something to do. ;)

But also bear in mind that attributes don't affect class skills in B/X as much as they do in AD&D. Having a high dexterity doesn't give a thief any bonus to thieves' skills. A dimwitted MU can cast spells as well as a genius. A foolish cleric is as effective as a wise one. The only real benefit from a high prime requisite score is often just the 5% or 10% experience bonus.

If you want to play thieves or hobbits, then by all means, go for it. But if you'd rather play a different class, don't let the rolls tell you what class to play.

I think it will be cool with a party of thieves & halflings. Are we doing straight 1d6 damage for everything or the variable damage?

Variable damage, I think.

Also, when you post your character sheets, please don't put them in spoiler tags. It's easier to glance at them (and see the names) if they're non-spoilered. Thanks!

Ok was only trying to save space on the page but will remove the spoiler. Also I am aware a high dex doesn't help a thief i was using it for better AC since my HP are handicapped to -1 what i roll so even re-rolling my 1 I end up with 1 HP :?

We all might-could pitch in some coin to your character, GW. Play it like they are dues to a thieves' guild we all belong to.
Just a thought.

If folks wanted to play a more balanced party, I'd take a dim-witted mage. :)
