Unutterable Blasphemies (ooc and questions lV)
Re: Unutterable Blasphemies (ooc and questions lV)
Who knows when you'll have another opportunity with the party so close to an actual cliff?

We aren't really leaving the bound cultists behind, right? That was all just roleplaying?
Since we already have them at our disposal, I think we should at least try to Charm one or maybe attempt to dispel their current possession?
I don't think we can just leave them here.

Ok then......
Bad idea #2: Subterfuge
We take the hooded robes off of the dead cultists and put them on. (the ones that aren't burned, cut off, and tossed into the shaft, that is)

Re: Unutterable Blasphemies (ooc and questions lV)
That seems a little Scooby Doo to have any chance of working, but it may be a slightly less bad idea than saving the town by having to kill everyone in it.
Re: Unutterable Blasphemies (ooc and questions lV)
Ok, here's another bad idea, in broad strokes... hide in the dead end alcove, leaving a decoy (torch + cultist + ?) by the cliff/rope. We could even send somebody up the rope hooting and hollering...
When they run past, come out and shove *them* off the cliff.

Mouser reports that the one remaining cultist (who wasn't tied up) has fallen off the cliff.OGRE MAGE wrote:We aren't really leaving the bound cultists behind, right? That was all just roleplaying?

The rope is a good idea - also, do we have the time to make a quick trip wire to tumble the front ranks as they approach? If they are in those robes and a few fall - we could burn them more easily.

There are only two living villagers. Pelias is dragging one along. Charm is a great idea but I didn't feel like Pelias would have suggested itOGRE MAGE wrote:We aren't really leaving the bound cultists behind, right? That was all just roleplaying?

The charmed villager might be convinced to tell the others we climbed up the rope and out of here...

Re: Unutterable Blasphemies (ooc and questions lV)
I also like the idea of hiding in the alcove and coming out from behind them.
I think the charm might work, but it might not overpower the possession they are already under. We might need to dispel their initial charm in order to charm them for ourselves. Does that even make sense?
I am happy to see any discussion that doesn't result in us simply mowing down everything in here if we don't really need to.
Like Zyhm said, we cant really save the town by killing all of its former members.
Also, we might not find many suitable places to rest down here, so we should keep our unnecessary battles to a minimum.

Re: Unutterable Blasphemies (ooc and questions lV)
Unless we have some kind of antimagic, our only hope of saving any villagers is to kill whatever controls it. If we want to save as many as possible, we run now, or hide and get them to go up the rope. Pulling several off might make further exploration easier.
If we want to decoy them off, somebody (or 2-3 people) could climb the rope while the others hide. Those who go up could lead the cultists on a chase, or hide/turn invisible or something.
If we want to just run, we should try to get up the rope asap.

Yeah. I'm not seeing an option right now other than (1) kill all the cultists that stand between us and freeing the cultists, and (2) retreating and...what? Trying to find an alternate entrance in a swamp full of undead things, shrieking mushrooms, and other nasties?
Does Urdur have any handy illusions we might use to convince the cultists that we've run off?

Mouser has dancing lights or ventriloquism if we think that would fall a bunch of brain-washed townies.

Urdur has one casting of IPF. If the party stands flat against the wall, he can create an illusion of the wall in front of the party, thereby making us effectively invisible for as long as we don't move. He can only do that once, though....
How do we know you're not a donkey-brained man?

Worth a try, IMO. Beats slaughtering the people we're trying to save.

So, ummm... we've got two mutually exclusive plans ... the ambush/marble/crates and the hiding. How do we move forward? A vote?

Re: Unutterable Blasphemies (ooc and questions lV)
Based on the IC posts so far, it seems (to me anyways) that we are committed to the ambush/marbles/crates plan. I'm fine with that if that's what the group wants, but I want to make sure that's the plan so I don't waste Urdur's last spell.drpete wrote:So, ummm... we've got two mutually exclusive plans ... the ambush/marble/crates and the hiding.
