Re: Chapter 9: The Cave Exploring Continues
Kormak points to the door talks to Borum and then points to Mort. After some discussing in very low tones Kormak goes to Mort whispers something and Mort moves over to the passage Kormak was watching Kormak takes Mort's position.
Mort moves up towards the door very slowly. He stops half way to the door and checks the floor and walls for traps.
Trap Check Floor[1d100] = 100 Trap Check Left Wall[1d100] = 66 Trap Check Right Wall[1d100] = 81 Secret passages[1d6] = 2
Then will keep moving to the door and listen at the door. Thief Skill Checks[1d100] = 49
Borum motions to Choe to come over for a moment and cover the open position while Mort checks out the door. If Choe comes over Borum whispers something to him.
Choe only and DM:

Wolfram holds his morning star ready. Does Idonea's lit torch provide enough light for Wolfram to see anything at all in the a) the eastern corridor b) the southeastern corridor ?

Maya and Victor remain on standby for the result of the door.

Dungeon Master:
Mort moves 15 feet towards the south door without incident & examines the 10 feet feet of space there but finds nothing.
Mort then moves all the way to the door again without incident, puts his ear up to it, but hears nothing beyond.
With Idonea now holding the torch, you can see clearly 15 feet from it, after 15 feet & up to 30 feet, things are seen in shadows.
With Ewat's Lantern lit you can see up to 30 feet clearly, after 30 feet & up to 60 feet, things are seen in shadows.

Re: Chapter 9: The Cave Exploring Continues
Mort will attempt to check the door for traps as well. Thief Skill Checks[1d100] = 45 then he will examine the door to see if he can find a decent peep hole to maybe attempt to look in without opening the door.

Mort sees three door hinges, thus the door would open towards Mort (north).

Re: Chapter 9: The Cave Exploring Continues
Mort moves back to the others and informs them that there appears to be no traps and the door opens out. Whispering to Victor, Borum and Choe "I still think barricading it would be best for us."

Victor thinks for a moment, "Barricade? Do we have any wood or spikes? I happen to know a bit about plans for building, back in the bandit days I built this catapult that fired goblins! Little buggers were practically paying US to ride! Hehehe."

Re: Chapter 9: The Cave Exploring Continues
Borum "I've got nothing to barricade the door with but I do agree with ya sounds like a wise plan."
Mort "Alas I don't have any spikes I forgot to mention it when we supplied in the keep. Perhaps check with Ewat or Idonea if they have not gone too far."
nope none of my 3 characters have anything.

Maya, Victor & Wexley:
Victor thinks for a moment, "Well, in any case if we have nothing to make something spectacular I guess I could hook up some rope to drop oil on a torch if the door is opened a certain amount, that would certainly stop them, not as dramatic though..."
Maya says nothing but keeps herself vigilant and watchful.
Wexley, crouched and with bow in hand approaches the group at the door, "Have we checked the door yet? Our flank is clear for now but standing still for too long is never good."

Borum & Mort:
Mort I did not check it to see if it was locked but I was being more cautious trying to cut off any sneak attacks from on of our 3 passages here at the entrance."
Borum "A wise motive Mort."

Re: Chapter 9: The Cave Exploring Continues
Wexley:
Wexley, "I see, I agree with you, it would not help if we got flanked. Let me check the door then while you keep a lookout some more." Wexley will then cautiously head over to the door and since Mort did not hear anything he will gently turn the handle, checking to see if it is locked, if it is he will attempt to pick the lock.
Pick Lock:
Wexley Pick Lock: [1d100] = 81
Well, if it wasn't locked then it certainly is now.
Either way he will check the door again for traps.
Find Traps:
Wexley Find Traps: [1d100] = 15
That's more like it!

Wexley's turning of the door handle causes a portcullis to come crashing down, cutting Wexley & Mort from the rest of the party!
Do not post any farther actions until I get full internet back Tuesday!

Dungeon Master:
OK, so it is just Wexley that got stuck behind the rusty portcullis, which came down at the point where the passageway starts.
The noise of the portcullis brings 6 halfling-sized figures running up the eastern hallway, while Ewat's lantern spots 6 Goblins turning the northern corner of the western hallway.
You can tell all of these figures have spears.
Initiative:
Party: [1d6] = 4
Goblins: [1d6] = 4
So both attack at the same time!
