Re: Ch. 6: The Great Hall and Beyond
Malibran watches quietly as the next chapter of the tomb unfolds...with, surprisingly, more secrets. He also eyes up the room at the suggestion of searching the sarcophagus. In the distraction of the efreet he completely forgot to examine it or anything else for that matter. Malibran will indeed examine the sarcophagus closer. "Anyone care to check out these chests....?"
Malibran will back out of the room if someone has the immediate idea of opening them

Re: Ch. 6: The Great Hall and Beyond
Xale breaks out his/her Scroll and moves over to Dredd; "Hold still"; and then uses it to cure some more injuries* on his/her fellow Dwarf.
Afterwards the Dwarven warrior/cleric readies hammer and shield and moves to the newly revealed trap-door, ready for whatever new horror in this tomb will emerge next....
OOC: Mr. DM please roll for the Cure Serious Wounds (2d8+1 I believe ?) scroll to heal Dredd a bit more....and please roll high!

Re: Ch. 6: The Great Hall and Beyond
Xale asks Dredd to step out of the anti-magic room for a moment (your DM is kind and generous
) and reads his healing scroll. Dredd begins to feel like he might be able to take on a badger without getting killed, if the badger isn't too angry.
Xale, CSW: [2d8+1] = 12+1 = 13
Meanwhile, Malibran takes a closer look at the sarcophagus. As he pokes around the contents, a shattered skull rolls out. He asks if anyone wants to check out the chests.
Dredd steps back into the room and pulls open the plug in the floor, revealing a small chute that drops down about 10' and to the west out of sight.

Elsa, fighter
"The lich isn't in the chests, so I was not moved to investigate. The last chest I opened here was full of asps and a comrade died. Drag them into the other room here so our magic works."
Elsa watches the chests get opened from a distance, her sword and shield at the ready.
Later she eyes the chute suspiciously. She throws one of the chests down there to see what happens.

The iron chests are set into the stone and are impossible to move. They each have marks of prying and battering, yet they remain closed with the three locks on each chest still shut.

"Let's leave the chests" suggests Zoster. "I doubt very seriously Acererak would leave anything to us that is useful. He must keep anything good for himself."
He removes a couple sling stones from his pouch and drops them down the chute that was recently covered by the trap door.

Malibran nods, "I understand your concern and moving on for now seems wise. I will again mention that we should consider a rest period. Our healing spells are about depleted, and I would like to refresh with some mental ablutions to better prepare our group for the unexpected...."

Zoster turns to Malibran. "Yes, a rest would be beneficial. But I feel malevolent spirits in the air that would keep us from doing so...or at least would make it very difficult."

Dredd Doomsmith, dwarven trap-hacker:
Dredd methodically searches both chests for traps while the others investigate the chute.
If he finds nothing, he'll attempt to pick their locks. Left chest first.
This proves too much temptation for the proud trapsmith.Zhym wrote:The iron chests are set into the stone and are impossible to move. They each have marks of prying and battering, yet they remain closed with the three locks on each chest still shut.

Re: Ch. 6: The Great Hall and Beyond
Using his special spectacles, Dredd sees tiny needles in each lock—the telltale signs of poison traps.

Knowing Acererack, these chests are empty. Or filled with hungry monsters.
But Dredd can't help himself. He attempts to "remove traps."

Re: Ch. 6: The Great Hall and Beyond
If Zoster learns nothing from dropping his sling stones into the chute, he backsdafucup out of the room while Dredd messes with the chests, sighing loudly...

The workaholic dwarf hears Zoster sigh, and rumbles, "Don't mind me, lad. I'm just keeping busy until ye're ready to go down the chute. Once ye're ready, I'll stop with this and follow ye down."

Zoster's stones roll down the chute and clatter against something out of sight.

Re: Ch. 6: The Great Hall and Beyond
"I do worry. You've died once, my dwarven friend. Once is enough" replies Zoster. The druid pulls his 50' rope from his bag. He fashions a makeshift harness and ties it off on at his waist. Please let me know if you need more details.Inferno wrote:Dredd Doomsmith, dwarven trap-hacker:

He holds the other end out to Elsa. "Keep this tight for me will you? If I tug twice sharply, please bring me up. Three tugs and it's safe to follow me down." He smiles. "One tug and I got sucked into something, or I fed a large beast."
If he finds a belayer, Zoster will lower himself down, bracing his arms and legs against the sides of the chute if possible.

True to his word, once Zoster tied a rope around his waist, Dredd stopped with the locks and got ready to leave.
If Dredd had already begun to remove the traps, he would rumble: "There's a venom antidote in me pack, if I should be poisoned."

Re: Ch. 6: The Great Hall and Beyond
Malibran will search the room for any large enough piece of cloth he can use (or from his own cloak or pack or anyone) so that he can wrap the skull with it before picking it up and putting it in his pack - just in case this is in fact the skull of the lich that is needed to satisfy the quest.
Re: Ch. 6: The Great Hall and Beyond
Dredd manages to disarm the trap in one of the six locks while Zoster sounds out the chute. When Zoster ties a rope around his waist, Dredd stops what he's doing and helps the druid.
Meanwhile, Malibran looks for a way to stash the skull in case it is Acererak's. Seeing no cloth handy, he removes his cloak and wraps the skull in that before putting it in his backpack.
Zoster lowers himself into the chute. After about a 10' drop, he finds himself on the floor of—does Zoster have a light source?
