IC II
Re: IC II
Meagnor the Elf follows Thordin's example and prepare six arrows in the same way, also leaving sword and shield aside. He also leaves his two flasks of oil prepared for throwing. He also tries to make a joke: "Maybe we should give our company a name: The Cave Burners, oil is our friend today."

"Ah, yes -- blinding the troll may give us the advantage we need. I'll cast my Light spell upon its eyes, as it enters the main hall." Bregalad assists Tratiln in spreading rags in front of the double doors, trying to cover as much area as possible. Once done, the elf will soak the material with his flasks of oil.
Afterwards, Bregalad brings the rest of the rags to the southern corridor, as Lanny suggested. If there is time remaining, he will empty his pack of its replaceable items, and place them in a large sack at the southern corridor.frobozz wrote:Lanny the elf
"I like the idea of using hit-and-run attacks. I would also suggest that we use these long tables as barriacades to slow down the troll so that we can target it more easily and allow us time to move. I'd suggest leaving one table in front of the northern doors and placing the second one in front of the southern entrance to this room. We can fire arrows from behind each one until the troll starts to get close, and then we can retreat down the southern corridor where we can have more piles of oily rags just waiting to be lit. Indeed, I believe it is in the southern corridor that we will most likely be able to roast the troll, for its movements will be limited there..."
Re: IC II
Tratiln will grab one of the crossbows with an oiled bolt ready to go and will do as the others and have his sword and shield by his side ready to go. He will take off his backpack and empty out most of the contents to put in a safe corner, keeping the spellbooks and scroll inside and putting it back on.
Re: IC II
Lanny the elf
Lanny looks over at the two unclaimed crossbows as he prepares 5 normal arrows and 5 magic arrows as fire arrows.
"Those crossbows are prepped and ready to use, gentlemen... Jake, you look like an agile fellow... Why not try taking a shot at the troll with it? We can get someone else to hold the torch... Friends, don't forget about the magical Traladaran arrows some of you are carrying - now may be the time to use them..."
Lanny removes the extra weight of his backpack, keeping only his first aid supply kit and putting it into a small sack tied at his belt.
"Healers, have your supplies ready. One hit from this troll and your services will be immediately required."
"One moment, Saul, I believe I misspoke. Without question, you are certainly our quickest and most fearless scout at the present moment... but you are not our quietest, as I had claimed. Ironically, you might actually be the loudest scout I have ever heard, based on your recent battle cries... If the troll is not right behind these doors, perhaps you could just use your vocal gifts to lure the troll to this room, rather than proceed into its lair and put yourself in unnecessary physical danger."Luis wrote:Before putting his second arrow between his teeth and heading out the door he says to the group:
"I'll be right back."

"Indeed I will, Tratiln! The floating arrow spell shall be cast at the first sound of the troll... I assure you I will use it at the most opportune moment, and it will not miss its mark. Bregalad - If your blindness spell works, we may have no need to retreat and could possibly continue to fire missiles at the troll. Bowmen - be sure to keep close to Semele... Her invocation may help to guide your arrows to their final destination."Bouv wrote:Lanny, should you have your floating missile prepped as well?

Bregalad the elf
When spreading the rags in front of the double doors, Bregalad will leave a narrow path through which Saul and others can run, so that they do not get lit on fire later, because they had oil on their shoes or clothing.
Also, like Tratiln, Bregalad will continue to carry his spell book and pearl in his back pack.

Lanny the elf
After getting Saul to pause at the doors, Lanny approaches the young scout.
"In truth, I did not want you to leave before first giving you THIS", he says, offering Saul one of his magic arrows, and taking the other one out of the scout's mouth.
"You will make a fine bowman someday Saul... I should like to see you again to be able to practice with you... And the young lady who trained you would like to see you again too. Be careful my friend."

Re: IC II
With preparations made, the double doors are flung wide, torches lit and the brave scout dons his goggles and begins to descend the stairs. The opening of the doors releases a miasmic odor of damp, decay and death. Those standing at the threshold can see a set of stairs as wide as a corridor leading down into the darkness. Unlike the rest of the dungeon so far, the steps appear to be carved from a white stone -- marble, perhaps -- and are littered with bones.
Saul descends the stairs slowly and cautiously. He counts forty steps in all. Upon reaching the bottom he discovers himself to be in a vast room; columns are placed at a regular interval about the room, obstructing line of sight. The odor is worse down here; the floor white with the bones and skeletal remains.
The brave scout enters the room, scanning his surroundings best as possible. He proceeds for perhaps a score of feet before his field of sight clears one especially large column and reveals the form of some great beast, squatting on the ground next to the carcass of some recently killed subterranean animal! The two behold each other for a moment. The giant -- it must be the troll -- leaps to its feet and surges forward with a speed that belies its great size, closing the distance between the two in an instant. Great claws reach out and rake Saul, piercing his armor and drawing blood!
The scout does not hesitate but takes off at a run, back towards the stairs. There is a below of rage, and the ground seems to shake as the troll follows in hot pursuit!
The rest of the party, waiting at the top of the stairs, here a roar and moments later see Saul burst through the two doors, dash through the path in the oil, and roll behind the barricade. His chest is bleeding in several spots, armor rent. Just behind him comes a massive figure, nearly eight feet in height, composed of some yellowish-green gelatinous slime. It looks as if some mad demi-god had fashioned a giant mad out of wax, then left it in the sun till its features drooped and ran. The thing appears to be translucent; deep in its chest a dark shape can be seen, pulsing with a malevolent regularity.

Tratilnj will light the bolt on fire and then fire it at the creature, "Have at thee creature and face our fury and our fire!"
Once the bolt is fired, he will pick up his sword and shield and prepare to engage the creature

Lanny the elf
At the sound of the roar of the troll, Lanny turns to his companions.
"This is it. All right, everyone back to the southern barricade, just as we planned... Get ready to fire once Saul passes by and the troll emerges through the double doors.
Lanny retreats to the southern barricade and readies his bow with a magic fire arrow.
"If you can't hit the troll, at least hit the oil!"

Re: IC II
As he enters the room Saul consciously tries his best to match the smile he gave his friends before leaving in order to make his wounds seem less important.
He throws himself to whatever cover he finds the furthest away from the door and turns to his friends: "What did I miss?"
After regaining his breath, and giving graces for smelling something cleaner than that creature's pit, he grabs his arrows and readies the one Lanny gave him. "I'm afraid I couldn't deliver your gift to our rude incoming friend, guess we'll just have to take the high road and insist politely." He is going to try shoot at the beastie while concealed.

Meagnor the Elf screams at the sight of Saul: "Saul needs help now! Make room for him! I'm serious! He is still smiling...this means he is trouble!"
After the troll gets past the front doors, Meagnor fires up a magic arrow and shoots at him: "Time to set fire on the room!"

Bregalad the elf
Bregalad is ready, with a Traladaran arrow notched on his bowstring. Seeing Saul burst through the doors is a great relief!
Shocked that the horrifying behemoth entered so quickly after the thief, the elf will attempt to cast Light once more, hoping to blind the monster!

Re: IC II
Marodin will stand just behind the barrier, war-hammer at the ready. If it looks like the troll will beat Saul to the barrier, he'll charge to defend the thief. Otherwise, he'll wait for the troll to make it past the gantlet they've readied for it.
