Re: Chapter 3: The Monastery at Dimwater
Aric moves along with the others, sword in hand, peering about for dangers.
"Perhaps the crook is in the garden shed," he says with the wisdom of young barbarians.

Osprey Palearctic, elven fighter/magic-user
Tracks on both sides of the gate even though it appears to be locked and rusted shut? That is disheartening. Osprey examines the gate to see if there is mud along the bars to suggest the gnolls have been climbing the fence, also looking to see if there is any vegetation around the gate or hand and toeholds in the wall around it to aid in climbing.
wisdom check (12) Wisdom Ability Check Roll (12) [1d20] = 16
So right now we know of only one usable exit from the grounds should we need one in a hurry though the gnolls seem to have more than one.

Re: Chapter 3: The Monastery at Dimwater
Examining the gate, Osprey discerns smears of mud on some of the bars and along the stones where the gate joins the wall. There are also a few long, dull-yellow strands of hair attached to one of the spikes at the top of the gate, seeming to suggest that the gnoll's have indeed been scaling the gate to gain entry.

Wil notices something unusual... and stoops to investigate something near the gate. He finds a large shiny scale about the size of a human hand. "What sort of creature would have shed something like this?"

"My knowledge of gnolls is... pretty much non-existent. I know what they look like only due to the one we found near the dovecote. Are they known to ride lizards, or keep them as pets?" says Yon, regarding the scale over Wil's shoulder.

Kragg "Don't think it is a dragon scale but then again could be if it were a small one I suppose." he suggests while scratching his beard.

Re: Chapter 3: The Monastery at Dimwater
Wil points to the ground next to the bottom right-hand corner of the gate; there the group can see a rather large, iridescent scale. It is about as large as a human hand.
Re: Chapter 3: The Monastery at Dimwater
Hex scuttles over to have a gander at the scale.
"Iridescent it is, mmmm and large. I know not what could have shed that. There are plenty of aquatic races that roam the oceans, but this seems larger than a humanoid, yes yes yes. I wonder if we can tell from which part of the body it came from. The gnolls are clearly climbing over the fence, oh yes indeedy. Can any of you clever locksmiths or warriors break open the rusty padlock and free the gate before we move on, yes?" he says muzzling in to look at both the print, scale and gate again.
"Can you tell how many gnolls have gone this way Aric hmmmm?"

Kragg "I can give it a try with the lock there. Might be easier to just have the big guy just break it open though."

"Hmmm," pondered Phineas as he examined the scale. It reminded him of someone.
Arrow nocked, he'd stand guard while the strongmen crash the gate.

Aric the barbarian looks about to see if he can tell how many gnolls came over the fence ( Tracking [1d100] = 78 ) but isn't sure.
If no one picks the lock, he'll try breaking through ( Break gate [1d6] = 4, [1d100] = 69 )

Re: Chapter 3: The Monastery at Dimwater
Kragg will give the lock picking a try "Rusty but lets see what I can do." kracking his knuckles then taking out his picks the dwarf gives it a go. Open Locks (35%) [1d100] = 51 A Brief moment after he puts his picks away stands up and steps aside "No luck durned thing's too rusty for me to do much."

Wil sticks to the edge of the garden and keeps an eye on the perimeter while the group examines the gate.

If the gate isn't opened, the miniature man of mustaches most mighty pronounces, "Gentlemen, please stand aside!"
Phineas rolls up his sleeves dramatically as he approaches the gate. "I happen to have acquired this amazing set of ingenious skeleton keys from a renowned and astonishing escapeologist."
"He kept them under lock and key.
Pick Locks: (45%): [1d100] = 21
If the lock opened, he bowed and said, "Thank you, thank you. It's all in the wrist."

Re: Chapter 3: The Monastery at Dimwater
Yon will examine the scale to see if it he can determine if it was recently shed by a living creature, or likely fell off some kind of armor or shield.
