Upon seeing the beetles advancing, Craw springs into action and throws his handaxe at the beast

"I hate to kill them > they are only doing what their instincts tell them to do." Leaf says, taking a step back. But...if a beetle comes to close, or tries to attack her, she will strike at it.

Erevan, bored with casting minor cantrips, throws caution to the wind and wades into the thick of battle swinging his short sword.

09.) Erevan sends a ray of cold at the nearest beetle. [1d20+5] = 18+5 = 23

03.) Beetles

Craw springs into action and throws his hand axe at the closest beetle however he has severely misjudged the target and his hand axe ineffectively clatters off the side of the cave wall. Erevan utters a few words of mystical power and a ray of cold spreads from his hands, impacting the lead beetle. Leaf, hesitant to attack a creature merely following its instincts back away slightly but this does not deter one of the beetles from pressing in and she swings with her scimitar. There is a third beetle behind the other two but the walls of the cave and the size of their own bodies prevents it from pressing past at the moment.

Beetle Bite on Craw: [1d20] = 16 Damage [1d4] = 4
Beetle Bite on Leaf: [1d20] = 12 Damage [1d4] = 1

Leaf slashes again with her scimitar, but obviously her reluctance to kill the creature is affecting her attack.

While the giant beetle jaws clench on Craw's shield, he pulls out his sword and drives the blade upward with a thrust aiming for the creature's belly.

To hit with sword: [1d20+5] = 16+5 = 21, damage: [1d8+3] = 8+3 = 11

Thrusting his dagger forward, he missed widely !

Erevan fires another ray of frost at the beetle pinching Craw's shield.

While the giant beetle jaws clench on Craw's shield, he pulls out his sword and drives the blade upward with a thrust piercing the creature's belly to the hilt of his sword will the point penetrates the carapace on its back. Erevan sends another bolt of frost at the closest beetle but the bolt glances off the thing's carapace. Leaf slashes again with her scimitar, but obviously her reluctance to kill the creature is affecting her attack. Thrusting his dagger forward, Vincentio missed widely! One of the beetles continues to press towards Leaf, undaunted by her ineffectual attempts to hit with her scimitar. However the whirling blade is enough to keep it at bay. The other beetle clambers over the carcass of the felled beetle.

Not happy with the situation, Leaf finally grits her teeth and slashes at the beetle attacking her, scoring a minor wound.

Craw retrieves his sword and tries to stab another creature with it, looking for the belly...

Craw withdraws his blade from the carcass of the first beetle and swings at the beetle crawling over it but misses in his haste. It tries to snap at Craw with its mandibles but the lack of solid ground prevents it from even getting close. Erevan, tired of firing rays of frost, draws his short sword and tries to stab the beetle. His blade connects with its thick carapace but fails to penetrate. Not happy with the situation, Leaf finally grits her teeth and slashes at the beetle attacking her, scoring a minor wound. The beetle tries to bite back at Leaf but she is able to duck out of its way. Vincentio weaves his way in between the creatures and stabs at its side with his dagger, encouraged by the little droplets of blood dripping from its shell.

Huffing, Craw tries again to skewer the beast with his trusted blade. "Kill them! before they get at our necks"

Erevan swings his short sword again. "I'm trying. I'm trying! Confound you!"

Resolved to end this as quickly, and mercifully, as possible, Leaf strikes again!

Huffing, Craw tries again to skewer the beast with his trusted blade. "Kill them! before they get at our necks". His blade slices through the carapace of the beetle and is rewarded with sound of the blade hitting muscle. The beetle's life begins to pour from the gaping wound Craw has left behind. Erevan swings his short sword again. "I'm trying. I'm trying! Confound you!" Erevan as well hears the satisfying thump of blade slicing carapace. Resolved to end this as quickly, and mercifully, as possible, Leaf strikes again! Her scimitar cleaves through the air and the wound left by Erevan just seconds before. The beetle struggles to maintain it's stance but withers to the ground.

The way stands clear to the chamber ahead but the sound of chanting starts up once again.

Leaf shakes her head sadly, looking at the dead beetles. She flings bug gore off her blade and looks ahead. "Shall we keep moving forward?"

"Of course," Erevan agrees. He looks down disdainfully at his blade, but shakes off his disgust.
