Yeah, that was my thought too: everyone gets an extra attack per segment of spell casting time, and since casting times tend to inflate at higher levels, it actually makes low level spells a lot more attractive than high level ones. Trying to cast something like Bigby's forceful hand would become nigh impossible unless you were able to stay out of harm's way for 6 whole melee segments. Not that we'll probably see any high level casting in this adventure, but it would be interesting to see how the extra-slow spell casting plays out once characters had regular access to spells like that—my guess is it would be more efficient in the long run to just memorise a whole load of 1-2 segment spells and be done with it.Zhym wrote:Right. There's no reason one action per segment can't work, but it requires careful attention to all the other AD&D timing rules, like surprise and casting time. For example, do monsters get 3 attacks in the 3 segments it takes to cast fireball? If so, that makes casting much more difficult, since monsters get three chances instead of one to interrupt the spell.
The combat system won't affect the Doctor too much—I'm going to be playing him mostly as a pacifist. Lots of sleep and charm spells. He may not be memorizing magic missile again.

Re: Out of Character Discussions (OOC):
So far I have not seen it happen in P-b-P, where a monster or villain was able to interrupt a spell casting, yet.
It has been that, the meleeing characters were able to act as a buffer for the spell casters & ranged
weapons users, Long enough to do those things before they decide to or have to, join in the melee.
But of course, that could change as tougher monsters are introduced & or tactics change.
There was one battle where the casters got their spells off, but still the whole party went down!

Did the party just finish resting?
I'm trying to figure out whether the Doctor has used his spell and if he can sub in a new one.

Dungeon Master:
Yes, the party did get enough sleep & yes The Doctor can switch to a different spell.
Right now, it's just a matter of cleaning up & getting ready for the trip to Marmor Quarry so if anyone has actions to post, involving that,
go on ahead, if not i will get the party 'on the road' to the quarry shortly & do the wandering monster checks for the 1st day's travel.
On that note, will the travel, be the same as it was for the prior 2 days?
It is the Morning of the December (Gaef) 14th.
Nine more days to find the egg & get it back to Galversharn.

Re: Out of Character Discussions (OOC):
This bit of information on Non-Weaponry Proficiencies was brought to my attention in another game:
"If the DM allows characters to have proficiencies, this column also indicates the number of extra proficiency slots the character gains due to his Intelligence. These extra proficiency slots can be used however the player desires. The character never needs to spend any proficiency slots to speak his native language."
The above Intelligence Bonus, is used once, added to the Initial number of proficiencies.
So go ahead & add that if your Intelligence bonus allows!

You're missing plusses. +1 for being an elf, +2 for Dex, +2 for specialized= +5 to hit.MonkeyWrench wrote:So glad you let me re-roll
Long Bow(Specialized) Point Blank, To Hit: [1d20+2] = 18+2 = 20, Damage: S/M[1d6+2] = 2+2 = 4, L[1d6+2] = 2+2 = 4
Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Oh wow... So basically you're saying I should just go run up to people and shoot them in their faces from now on?
Life is a roller coaster, if you don't stop to enjoy it then you may as well not even ride.
Re: Out of Character Discussions (OOC):
You could, but is +1 worth being in melee. You get +4 at normal distance.

Updated the Deities in the NPC listing.
If you have not already picked a deity, choose one from that list or pick another of your own choosing.
