Round 6 (east)

#261 Post by dmw71 »

In the aftermath of the blast of light, Kaltar finds himself blinded. Intent on attacking, he carries through on those plans but his mace swings through the air without connecting with anything. The cleric takes a defensive step or two backwards, reaching with his hand until he feels the wall behind him, and feels a temporary moment of relief. Strom fares better against the flash of colors, but his sword strike is easily knocked aside. The knight is unable to handle the volume of creatures swarming him and they continue to pour into the room.

Kaltar, relying on his other senses, has an ominous feeling overcome him as, odds are, the approaching noises he hears to his left will more likely do him harm than good. A javelin jabs at him but is unable to penentrate the links of his chain armor. A second javelin fares much better, finding a vulnerability in the cleric's armor, its tip digging deep (-12), almost striking an organ which would have almost certainly proven to be fatal.

Strom finds himself completely surronded. A javelin tip crashes into his back but is unable to harm him through his splint armor. The paladin's luck runs out, however, as the troglodyte to his sword side catches him (-5) and causing him to momentarily flinch, creating an opportunity for the beast in front of him to hit critically (-8).

The paladin collapses to his knees before everything goes black.

I must admit... a fitting way for it to end for Strom. He finally rolls that mythical 20, but the gods wont even let him see it through to get the bonus...

What a pile of bullshit. How was my natural 20 just knocked aside? I should have hit something before going down.

I think you perished at the ammended conclusion of round 6, whereas your 20 was for round 7...

"I'm getting the hell outta here."
Drawing a blank for advantageous actions, Shanngians huddles low to the ground and casts the darkest of brown upon himself and his clothing.
'Maybe they wont see me.'
He slowly begins to crawl thru the melee towards the western exit, regretfully ignoring his friends painful cries.

200 to 1?....I would have given the KC CHIEFS the same odds of making the playoffs too....and look what they are doing...but yea, I personally don't see anyway of saving this.

No worries...it's only a matter of time before Ewell has more pins holes than Ceasar...

It does seem at this point like "Rocks fall, everyone dies" would at least have the advantage of being mercifully quick.

For those that are in a position to notice, this does appear to be true.

Epsilon holds up his buckler and tucks his head.

Through the east tunnel, it's our only chance to escape.

Epsilon is going to flee through the chaos and down the east tunnel hoping the attacks he takes aren't enough to finish him off.

You do realize you're a barbarian, right?
Yes, it was an OOC request for a good hearted cleric to heal a fighter that may (or may not) make a difference. Aric didn't say it. ;) Remember how the priest saved the little girl at the end of the Exorcist? Extreme example but same concept; or maybe not. As a paladin I once laid hands on a too-proud fighter by arm wrestling him. I lost, and he felt real good about it.

O'rek looks to back-up to where Ewell and Aric are to protect that flank (such as he can) and pounds on S3 again:

Mace attack [1d20+2] = 14+2 = 16 (THACO=20)

Mace Damage (+1 weapon, +3 str dmg) = [1d6+4] = 3+4 = 7

Ewell and Epsilon have 53 HP between them. How about the one leads the east charge out, another takes the rear, to serve as buffer for the one-hit-from-dead comrades?

well epsilon is leading the way I have already declared it as his actions this round, no fighting retreat just straight up flee.

IMO I think that is backward... The coast is clear once in the tunnel, to no one knows... However, If we push into the western tunnel with one mightly surge, the masses can't get to us, except for those 3 Gs, and we know how to get out, as it is should be a straight shot south... heck, natural light may be coming in from the south.
I checked the secret cavalier handbook. (not the one in the stores, but the secret one) and fleeing to save others is only a permanent stain once one takes the oath. Ewell hasnt...IF he has to run to protect the others in this situation, I suppose he could. He would be the rear guard, if Orek and Epsilon take the front.

I have actions from everyone except Kaltar at this point.

Feel free to discuss exit strategies for round 8 (ideally in the 'anything goes' thread), but round 7 is almost in the books as I have much of the round already completed and am waiting for the last action before making initiative rolls and finalizing the update.

Just putting this out there, your way may be blocked if the troglodytes win initiative. It's a risk even if you win initiative, but potentially not possible if you don't.
