Re: Between The Spaces We Know (ooc and questions Vlll)
Sorry. What a week. The good news is, two major work projects that have been eating up all my time should be ending soon. I guess 'm grateful to be busy in this crazy time.
Re: Between The Spaces We Know (ooc and questions Vlll)
Sorry Ogre Mage. That's three and a half days. Moving it forward.

Is the only light here being provided by us, or does anything, like the misshapen monolith thingie, glow?

The PCs are approaching from the passage that passes out of the chamber to the northeast.
Other options from the square chamber are: N, E, S, W and SW.

Re: Between The Spaces We Know (ooc and questions Vlll)
I've got a virtual game convention this weekend, so I don't know how much time I'll have to spend on the Servant. Please NPC my character if necessary.
On November 2nd I will be participating in another 24 hour game of Dungeons & Dragons as part of Extra Life. This organization uses gaming to help raise money to donate to children's hospitals. I'm raising money for Marshfield Children's Hospital in Marshfield, WI, and all money I raise will go to that hospital. All donations are tax-deductible. Please take a moment to check out my donation page below. Thank you.

Re: Between The Spaces We Know (ooc and questions Vlll)
I gotta ask Scott, are you doing more Cons now that everything is virtual?
I know Cons were worried because the pandemic was going to hurt attendance, but it seems that those who made the shift to virtual really will widen their fan base. Of course we all know nothing stops Scott from gaming!
But it’s interesting to me too, because of the social distancing/isolation I have an Arden Vul virtual game going (with Zeb from this board (he lives in Brazil) and two guys from Germany) second session is Sunday, the four daughters are itching to play, so the Quest for the Illhiedrin Book begins this weekend FtF as we are introducing my oldest’s boyfriend to D&D. And for the first time in decades my HS/MS friend group is going to play via Skype not this weekend but next. Affectionately calling ourselves the Montauk VII, cause the 7 of us have been spending a weekend in a cheesey motel every summer since 1987, and this year our annual HMWH club
isn’t likely to be getting together.
So while this has caused work and financial stressors for me (and most folks in the world
) it’s increasing my dice rolling chances. Interesting anecdotal info that!

Re: Between The Spaces We Know (ooc and questions Vlll)
Also I wonder if all the complaining (whining?) about Con Crud (germs, BO, etc) has made Virtual Cons more interesting to folks who wouldn’t normally attend.
Maybe this is a better discussion for our General forum.

Re: Between The Spaces We Know (ooc and questions Vlll)
I know I personally have been doing A LOT more RL (VL?) gaming. So in that respect it's been productive.

Totally understandable. That non-Euclidean monolith is pretty disorienting.ChubbyPixie wrote:Whoops! I meant North.

Thanks for the heads up, Scott.
What convention is it?
And for virtual conventions, do you also plan your customary 22 hours of games per day?

I've been fortunate enough to have more time to game as well. No commute.ChubbyPixie wrote:I know I personally have been doing A LOT more RL (VL?) gaming. So in that respect it's been productive.
The crisis has proven that working from home is possible for many sectors. I wonder if that continues after the crisis is over. It must be tempting for companies to reduce their rent.

This will definitely be the case for my company. They've been looking for years for a way to drastically reduce rent. I think we found it.

Virtual Kobold con!
I've been looking at the games a bit, but playing virtually with friends is difficult enough.
I couldn't imagine how hard it will be to do with complete strangers in the game, but for only 5 bucks, I might be willing to find out.

Give it a shot! I’ll be playing in a 1e game tonight with a bunch of randos (Not part of any con). I rolled up pretty stellar stats and decided to give the cavalier class a whirl. We’ll see how good I am at chivalry and honor codes and all that...

Re: Between The Spaces We Know (ooc and questions Vlll)
To answer several questions in one post, I was originally only going to Gary Con for one day, but when it became virtual, I ended up playing all four days. Kobold Con is held in Colorado most years, so I would normally not be able to attend, although they did have a small virtual aspect previously. A friend here in Madison has run online games for them in the past. Memorial Day weekend is Con of Champions, which is an online con to raise money to keep Table Top Events in business. TTE is the badge/ event registration platform for a number of conventions, including Gary Con and Kobold Con. I'm on call that weekend, so I will not be participating since I can't guarantee I'll be able to make my games and it isn't fair to everyone else if I have to leave partway through (or don't show up at all) when someone else could have taken that spot in the game.
I booked myself pretty solid for Gary Con, not as much for Kobold, although that was not completely my plan. Both cons were smaller than what I am used to attending in person, so there were not as many games available. Kobold Con is much smaller, so some time slots were really limited. I didn't start until 1 pm con time (2 pm my time) on Sunday, and I did end up with an hour gap between the Sunday games. I played 11 straight hours on Saturday, so not too bad.
My wife did get kind of irritated. I originally was going to see if I could find an Adventurers League game Saturday and Sunday before the con games, but decided not to push my luck any further. She was already pissed because she wanted me to go to the pet store with her and the dog when I got home from work Friday, but my first game started in less than an hour. And I had McDonalds, because health care workers get free food right now, and I didn't have anything for everyone else, so that didn't help my cause.
I know I played with many people who don't live in Colorado, so I'm sure almost all of us took the opportunity to play games when we would not have done so if the con was held normally.

I DMed The Illhiedrin Book for my kids this weekend, and played in Arden Vul with a couple online friends (I think Zebediah the Sorcerer is the only one who is a member here), so I caught a little heat too. I was going to explain/engage/enrage, but then realized that I am DMing The Illhiedrin Book for my MS/HS friends this upcoming weekend via Skype. It'll be the first time we've played in decades (though we get together one weekend every summer, and have been since 1988) and I definitely didn't want to push my luckScott308 wrote:My wife did get kind of irritated. I definitely had fun. Every one of my games went off as scheduled, compared to GC which had 4 cancellations. We also didn't seem to have as many technical issues, although there still were some, and a number of people who didn't show up for games. Overall, it was a positive experience, and I'll be looking to do it more often, although perhaps with less hours of gaming.
