Yeah, I think that this is the best option, it helps reduce the area we need to search. With only 3 questions it would be difficult to get info on direction.

I think it might work better if we worked outwards (effectively in bands), e.g. is it within 3 miles, is it 6 miles, is it 9 miles. That way as soon as awe get a yes to range we can stop, so we might have questions left over which we could use to try and eliminate directions, e.g is it north, etc, both a yes and no result for a direction would be useful in this case.

Does anyone think a wagon would be of use? I was thinking of buying one, but it would slow down the party's movement to 12 miles/day.

You're welcome to buy one, but I will warn you that right now, where the party is, the terrain is too rough for wagons.

As a general rule, FWIW, buying big stuff like this is good to do pre-game. Once your character is introduced they'll be constrained by game mechanics and availability of goods.

EDIT: You can buy one; there are places you can leave it in the meanwhile.

So the best option would seem to be to buy it, and stash it in Draea until the party returns.

Yup. I'm going to handwave you two joining up with the party to get y'all into the action quickly, btw.

I've been going through the group items list and we have the following undistributed magical items:

1. Doses of Royal Jelly x4 - Each dose heals 1d4 hp to an individual or, if applied to a wound, will allow the character to make a second saving throw to avoid disease. Eating royal jelly is not something you do in combat; it's *a lot* to eat. spread these around as group items for easy access?
2. potion of diminuition
3. A brass scrollcase containing a scroll of Cure Serious Wounds perhaps let Ribar look after this for the group?
4. A staff of snakes (cleric only) - Do we want Ribar to look after this? although he's not proficient in a staff (he could be at 5th level). I guess it could wait for now.
5. A Wand Of Fear of unknown charges (MU only)
6. The crossbow is magical. Bolts fired from it gain no special qualities, but once per day the wielder can invoke the powers of the crossbow to fire two phantom bolts generated by the resonations of the string once a normal bolt has been fired. These two phantom bolts are considered magical for the purposes of damaging creatures and automatically hit the target of the first bolt for 1d4 damage each.
7. dagger +2 did Gardo claim this?
8. potion of healing - give out to somebody as a group item
9. potion of diminuition
10. potion of polymorph.

I'm not saying we need to hand these all out, but we ought to consider doing so, particularly the royal jelly, healing scroll and potion as group items. We only have Ribar's healing and this magic. Newton has 2x d4 non-magical healing potions.

we have the following unidentified items:
1. A skeletal hand is found with a ring around one finger. The ring is fashioned from a strange black metal, unfamiliar to any of the adventurers, that shimmers with an almost oily iridescence.
2. In amulet wrought of gold and set with rubies in an abstract pattern. The chain strung through it has long since broken. Taken from one of the giants. Detects as magical

Perhaps we need to get these sent off to be identified? I'm guessing there is nobody in Alice who can do this but our factor could send them off to Rhea's ford. I know this will take time, but we are going to be travelling around and I can't see a quicker method. If this was agreeable to the group, thirdkingdom - would you allow Ardath to take these items back to Alice for us? As we can't use the wand we could have it sent to get it's charges assessed.

We don't have to do any of this, but I thought it would be useful to consider things.

EDIT: Just realised we have Shmara to help with divine magic (and could use the staff) and the magical engineering skill can be used to id items.

So, we have half a ring from 3ml to 6ml radius, which I think means we have an area of 42.41 sq miles to search, apparently. Well, it's better than the whole hex.

We also know its north of us, which cuts the ring in half. Still a lot of ground but way better then the whole hex.

I think that kalstone and RR Brando are ready to be added into the game. We're going to assume they heard of you guys in Draea and came north to find and join the party. I can post an intro tomorrow morning, or y'all can post as desired.

Go ahead and give me an idea of how you want to begin searching; just kind of stumble around, divide into sections, go straight north, etc?

EDIT: Also, do you y'all want to establish a base camp here, camp in a new location each night, or something else?

I was thinking that it would be useful to have this spot a base camp as our distances from the spell relate to this spot as a reference.

We have a semi-circular 'ring' to work through 3 miles wide, I was thinking we split into 2 groups. One works from the west and goes clockwise, the other from the east and counter-clockwise and eventually we'll meet north of this spot. If neither group has found anything then we pass each other by and keep going.

Thoughts?

In general that sounds good, but if we can only explore 4 1.2 mile subhexes in a day it will take each group almost 2 days to meet up (if I'm doing the geometry right). That means we'll have to camp separately.

Or I think we can lose a hex a day and return to base.

What makes it difficult is that the search area is defined by a distance from a fixed point. I don't know how easy it would be be to search without returning to base to ensure we don't go off course. I need to overlay the half-ring onto a hex background and see if an idea jumps out.

Sounds fine and yes this is going to take a while unless we get lucky and find it right off.
