Quest #28 "Kegenstien's Expedition Over the River"
Re: Quest #28 "Keg & Stien's Expedition Over the River"
Keg
The northman looks at The Knife when he finally shows up and seems ready to go, and it is clear he is asking himself if this is a good idea. He shakes his head and starts walking. Onward we go then.
He takes the lead along side Keyon. I'm hoping between the two of us we will be able to notice anything out of place on our way through. I'd like to avoid that sea monster if possible. I want to go to Vahalla but not through that beast's asshole if I can manage it.
If we are lucky we with learn a little about it if it is out today, but our main objective is the river. If we need to detour through the trees a bit, that is fine with me.

Keyon
The elf nods at the wall of bone and muscle beside him, chuckling quietly at the Valhalla comment.
"Aye. I'd like a look at this beast, too. Preferably from a distance." He shudders as he recalls the thing in the water during his time aboard ship. "On our journey to the island, I found myself in the water with a beast who had a single eye as big as a warrior's shield," he says. "That's close enough for me."
He scans the ground before them and the trees above and to either side as they walk, seeking the safest path.
"Keyon," he says by way of introduction. "Formerly a sailor. Firmly landlocked these days. Here's to adventure and wealth for us both and our hides intact at the end of it."
He keeps his voice low and steps carefully to avoid attracting unnecessary attention from anything that might be lurking ahead of them.

"Then I guess we better avoid the beast altogether, but it's something we may want to take care of at a later date."
When The Knife finally arrives for the second time Elnaerel looks to his right and to his left, then behind him. "We? Who's accompanying you? An invisible friend?"
When Feanol leaves she tells her they'll wait for her. She finally addresses Keg. "Are we then gonna wait for anyone else? Apart from Feanol coming back from her shopping, that is."

"No I don't think we were. I totally agree with avoiding the tentacled monster. Lets get to our objective, we can hunt monsters some other day."
My shopping was done in the down day when we were waiting on The Knife.

"Fine. Then, if there's nothing else to be done here, let's move!" The elf cleric will start walking with the rest of the party eastwards, towards the river and out of the town. That is, if the rest of the party also leaves

Darklin will bring up the rear of the procession with bow draw and arrow knocked. Remembering the signs of wild cat along the last return trip. Trying to keep himself between the treeline and Feanol he works his way along cautiously

Sea Monsters And Exploration
Moonday, 22nd of Goodmonth
Morning, Warm, Misty, Humid
After a brief introduction, the party of six heads out up the beach towards the river. With Keg and Darklin being the only ones who have ever taken this trip before, the gruff viking takes point alongside their elven scout.
The hard packed trail through the sand on this side of town is a pleasure to walk upon compared to the soft sand on the other end of the beach, allowing the group to make good time on the first leg of their journey.
The misty morning skies start to clear slightly as the heat and humidity rise, causing the bugs to come around again after a brief respite from their usual biting, buzzing, and stinging. After a couple of hours, at a point about half way to the river, the group starts to approach the area where they encountered the sea monster the last time. The sand in front of them looks disturbed, as if a fight broke out here within the last few days, but they dont see any sign of the monster itself anywhere ahead.

The Knife
The Knife keeps to the middle of the group. As they move off, he moves his head lower, closer to the pommel of the large knife on his belt. "Remember to keep your voice down. Don't give away our position."
When they reach the area of disturbed sand, the gnome asks "Maybe we should make a little detour anyway? But just watch for things in the trees waiting to drop on us."

Elnaerel takes a look at the disturbed sand. "Do you know if this is from the monster you mentioned, Keg? Darklin?
Anyway, I think we should go around this and not get close to the water. Against overwhelming odds, discretion is the better part of valor."

He nods. this is the spot from what I was told.
I was still out on the return trip. I agree we should give it a bit of a birth for now. Let's dip into the treeline from here and move ahead a dozen yards or so before coming back onto the trail.

I agree with Keg. That thing is big and we don't want to mess with it. According to Liam it drug a large man in and he disappeared never to be seen again. Not sure if it is a Giant Octopus or Squid but if it can drag a large man in it is best left undisturbed. Let's follow Keg.
Keeps an eye on the sand and water as they move into the tree line.

As they start out she watches Darklin appreciatively as he takes a position to shield her. When they reach the area where the beast attacked she will agree with the others and move with them into the tree line.

The graceful elf picks his way carefully through the trees in an attempt to navigate safely away from signs of the beast. He'll move slowly, deliberately, looking into the trees and at the ground, then sweeping his gaze from side to side with a soft focus to scan the jungle for silhouettes or movement.

Looks around and makes sure to keep a special eye towards the denser side of the jungle as well as above them, trusting everyone else is likely watching their feet and the beach.

Sea Monsters And Exploration
Moonday, 22nd of Goodmonth
Morning, Hot, Humid, Buggy
Keyon and Keg move into the jungle to skirt the area where they think the sea monster might be guarding the beach. If they thought walking through sand in full gear was difficult, turns out it was a picnic compared to blazing a trail through the barely penetrable foliage.
Finding an unrelenting wall of trees, vines, ferns, thorns, and plants that are nearly all unfamiliar to the group, the detour through the bush turns out to be a LOT of work hacking and crawling through the thicket. The smaller members of the party have slightly less problem navigating the detour, but Darklin is nearly carrying Feanol by the time they reach the other side, the weak she elf having all she can do to maneuver through the natural obstacles.
After much sweating, swearing, and bug swatting, the disturbance is bypassed without consequence, allowing the trip to resume normally again. Nothing of note was spotted in the bush, and when the party is finally out on the open sand again, ready to continue on their way to the river, they spot a small group of what looks to be other adventurers coming towards them from the direction of the river. The group is still about a mile off, and appears to be at least 6 members strong.

That was rough, how do the Indigenous people here even manage to get around? This jungle is so hard to maneuver through. I didn't think I would be carrying a Hot and Sweaty Elven Lady through this Jungle but I guess being a bodyguard has it's benefits.
Sets Feanol down in the sand and hands her a waterskin.
Here drink some water young lady, it will help.
Looking around and out to sea waiting on Feanol to regain her strength.
I wonder if anyone has been to that Island out there? Hey Someone is coming this way and I don't recognize any of them.

Once they are out and he hears Darklin's comment about carrying Elnaerel, he chuckles. Give her a nice swat on the ass neck time you do. If she complains, you can always drop her in a thornbush.
The northman will then try to get a bearing on where they are in relation to the town and the river as he presses the group on.

"Well being tired doesn't affect my hearing, and I'm not sure if there was a compliment in there or not, but thanks." Says the elf as she takes the offered water skin.
Looking ahead at the approaching party, she pass on what info she can glean to the others.

The gnome peers around all the large folk in front of him. "Well...they're probably just heading back to town. Looking forward to a few drinks in the Treehouse. That sort of thing. No real threat..."
After a few moments, The Knife starts walking a few steps closer to the treeline, muttering "Yes, you're probably right. No sense in taking chances..."
