First of all, my deepest condolences. I understand loss and grieving; my husband died in 2008, and only recently have I even been able to talk about him. Hang in there. If things get weird, see if you have a local Hospice organization. They often hold grief workshops and have counseling services.

Revolver: uses 9mm bullets, holds 6 cartridges loaded, takes one combat round to reload.
Cr 5, for each set of 6 cartridges

The referee says: You have a box of 18 cartridges already.

Apologies for the unannounced absence for the last few weeks. The new semester started, and I haven't quite found room for reliable PbP in the schedule. I'll do my best to catch up, and if I can't join you often enough to avoid disruption, I'll let you know.

Yup, just started a new semester as well, with a full time job. Time = null.

Having been a grad student, I perfectly understand. Now having a large home garden means summers get ... interesting. Like 4 gallons of plums from a dwarf tree interesting.

Make some plum wine?

How much is cold weather gear?

Is the journey long enough for skill acquisition or improvement?

I am processing the plums in the dehydrator, so they don't take up my entire freezer. I usually make a plum conserve (plums, raisins, black walnuts, cinnamon, cloves, and a minimum of sugar).

Cold weather gear

Cold Weather Clothing, Type 1: (TL1, Cr200) Boots, pants, hooded coat, mittens, facemask. Most parts are made from skins sewn together, or knitted goods. Good for very cold weather, for short periods of time. "Immersion in water totally negates the effects of this clothing."

Cold Weather Clothing, Type 2: (TL6, Cr200) one-piece garment, similar in construction to a down coat. Slightly warmer. Doesn't work when wet.

Heatsuit (TL8, Cr300): Skin-tight, head-to-toe covering, with gloves and transparent face-plate. Provides good protection against extreme cold.

Combat armor or battle dress or a vacc suit might be useful, but heavy.

Advancement

Traveller is not about increasing experience points, so improvements in your existing skills is achieved by studying or using the skills over a long period of time. "...potential for increases is possible in four specific areas, only one of which may be attempted at one time..."
A level 1 in a skill means that person is quite competent in that skill, equivalent to a Bachelor's degree. Level 2 is like a Masters, and the rare Level 3 is PhD level. It is possible to have a 0 in a skill, which means the character can perform that skill, but with more difficulty.

1. Education: correspondence courses, tutoring, computer education programs
2. Weapons Expertise: by constant training and practice on specific weapons.
3. Skill Improvement: temporary improve skills by practice; only 2 skills can be improved
4. Physical Fitness: similar

The program of improvement is over a period of 4 years of study. There are various rolls involved, which I can include at a later time, if anyone is interested.

Referee's choice: If someone shows definite improvement in a skill, I may consider increasing the skill by 1 point.

It's TL 5 here, so is the TL 6 cold weather gear available to us? I'm guessing the TL 8 heatsuit is not...

Yes, a limited amount of higher TL (up to TL8) supplies are available through authorized dealers. You will be able to purchase the TL6 or TL8 winter gear, but it is available at 140% of base cost, due to import costs.

Jrec won Cr5,000 from the captain. He doesn't mind sharing the wealth and getting everybody a TL8 heatsuit. As a marine he's used to being in a team and watching each other's backs. No point in having the mission fail because somebody has frostbite from crappy gear.

How many PCs are there? 6? And a 140% markup = Cr420? each

Thank you, Jrec! The group will be much happier, and warmer. Please deduct the Credits from your list.

Heads up, FYI, etc.

Pacific Gas & Electric Co. may be powering down their transmission lines due to high winds and very low humidity. I may not have electricity for several days, and connectivity only through cell service, if that.

In the meantime, I will leave the party to figure out how you are going to get Chiree on the sub, and how to take care of him during the trip.

Have fun.

Yep, finally found a use for those good for nothin's... smell like the devil.... they are able to parallax two differing magnetic sources at the same time, resulting in a three dimensional reference vector used for navigation. Ruthgar says with a shrug.

Hi, I am sort of back. I apologize for not posting recently, but I wasn't feeling well (mentally) and had to take a break.

I will start up the game next week, after I get back from DunDraCon. (Whee!)

Well... that took much longer than I thought, with a Rotary club fundraiser in between. But I finally have my life back together.

I will get the game back on track tomorrow, after I refresh my memory on our adventure.

Sorry for not replying sooner... ATT internet cables to much of Lake County burned Friday evening, and we didn't get service back until late Sunday night. I am happy to have the WiFi connecting to the outer world again. I will get a reply up as soon as I figure out the keypad layout you are trying. I need to look at an old telephone first*...

*remembering that the scenerio was written around 1980, when people still had dial/punched phones.
