I can relate to the dread of unemployment. My wife finally got a new job so things are now much better.

From the sounds of it, your process appears to be on point, unfortunately, as we know from rolling dice, we cannot control outcomes. If you stick with your plan as you outlined below, I think you will be in a good position.

Sending you positive thoughts as you wade into that "first time" process. I also would not have any reservations on how you are feeling about your soon to be former employer. Your focus now has to be on setting yourself up for your next role and protecting you and your family. I speak from experience as I was one of those folks who loved my former employer and worked my ass off up to the last day with them thinking I could convince someone they had made a bad decision in letting me go. I had a severance package so we tightened belts and made due after I was unemployed but I really should have dedicated myself to finding a new role in that period between the announcement date and my last day which was about 6 months.

Wasn't sure whether the following best fit here, or in the 'A Few HA HAs Worth' topic. While a bit tongue-in-cheek, it probably fits best here:

The funny thing is that all of it is true. Think about how much thinking, communication, and teamwork go into a great game. Then compare that with the average group that watches TV for those same hours. I'd prefer to hire a good gamer any time (assuming I could hire anyone).

While you wrote this I was studying a few AWS services and thinking about how they could fit a Star Trek setting. Gamers can speed up technological transformation if we apply ourselves!

That's a great idea!!

Volunteering as PR Director for & Magazine really gave me the idea. I like numbers and promoting & got their numbers up from like 400 downloads to 30,000 or somesuch. So i knew that would sound good

The fact that a lot of people didn’t DL and keep the copy - so multiple downloads from one person was pretty common doesn’t have to play into that equation. Ha ha. Also, for a while Stuart Marshall had “Professional Forum Moderator” in his DF/KnK signature. All made me think “why not?”

Nothing wrong with getting creative with a resume. At least it breaks the boredom of reading the same thing over and over again.

It's been a little over six months for me, and still going. Financially we're not in crisis mode yet, we've been living below our income for a while and don't have any debt. If it wasn't for my "retail therapy" (technical books on Amazon) we'd be doing even better.

I've been updating my resume and career expectations as I go. I'm okay with doing things I wanted to quit doing twenty years ago if it'll pay the bills though. The good news is that now I can automate most of them and make life a lot easier.

For those still seeking, how are things going for you?

So, I just received this:

Note the number emails organized into the "job search" category for this current calendar year: 1,299.

This rejection, however, I think is particularly hilarious because:

1. It was for a part-time retail job;
2. I applied for this position back on May 2, 2024.
   * Note: May 2, 2024 until October 31, 2024 = 182 days
   

   At least 182 is cool...

It's just amazing to me that it took a struggling retail establishment half a year to determine that I don't qualify for their part time role.

Thank goodness I abandoned looking for a job months ago.

I'm about a year into having my own law firm and have pretty much phased out the near-full-time gig that I had working for someone else. Owning a law firm is interesting from an "employment" perspective. I have total control over everything that I do to get and maintain client relationships. I have no control over whether any particular potential client needs my services. I have some control over whether a lead likes me enough to hire me. Fortunately, so far, enough people need and like me so that I am maintaining a moderate income.

Cool! Running your own business successfully can be significant in both challenge and reward.
