As Delmar would say, "I'm with you fellers."

Seriously though, my character can join up with any other character in their location of choice or sit and wait on T1. Whatever works for you, Mr. DM. ;)

I was thinking the same thing about joining another character. Not necessarily waiting but if that helps out I can be fine with that too.

Just a quick update.

I think I'm leaning toward just jumping straight into T1. I know, if I spring up games in other areas, running those will take a considerable amount of time and prevent real progress on T1 -- which, I think we all can agree, should be the focus.

Regarding T1, my plan is not to start in Hommlet directly, but to allow the PCs to get a bit of adventuring and experience while on their way to Hommlet. A pre-adventure of sorts.

At present, there are 10 players currently signed up.

I'm thinking of two groups of 5.

Each will begin the game at the same time, but from different locations and tasked with different pre-adventures. The two groups may end up in Hommlet at the same time... or, they may not. Their paths may intersect at some point, or they could forever be operating independently toward the same goal. A lot will depend on how the gameplay goes once we get started, and everything can completely change if/when the two groups ever do meet.

We'll see. Maybe the two groups can form a bit of competition with each other? :D

Needless to say, strict adherence to the calendar and time spent by the different groups will be important.

More soon...

Lathyris Daymoon decided to explore the wider world and seek out lost sites and forgotten knowledge. He headed N from Enstad into the Kron Hills to Tristane. There he stopped to visit his friend's family. Then he took the road NE to Validra, then E to Osnabrölt, and E to Tulwar, and (N)E eventually to Hommlet.

I am good with 2 groups, the trick will be trying to sort of balance them by class.

Ok so I am late to the conversation. But I do like the stat roll option of 2d6+5 but do like Rex's suggestion of the 3d4+5 just simply because it brings the floor up 1 point. From a player standpoint I always felt let down when I roll a character and am stuck with a stat at 6 or 7, 8 at least feels a little bit closer to "average" as a score, and anything that i ever got above a 15 on I felt like I was super powered. So lowering the "ceiling" but raising the floor. I am all for in this sense.

I would also ask about HP unless I missed that somewhere in another player's question perhaps.

Do you have any set rule for HP rolls? Like re-roll 1's or max HP for first level only? Anything specific?

As for groups I am good either way. 1 group 2 groups heck if you have the player numbers for it 3 groups. All is fine imo. So long as we aren't running solo.

I do also like you idea on the language and possibly levels for them. It does make a bit of sense as I am taking German on Duolingo and I am recognizing things but certainly not able to make any meaningful conversation from what I've learned so far.

The language makes sense. Maybe non-fluent, fluent, and scholar type ratings.

I haven't officially decided on this. In fact, I just created a poll to decide this:

GreyWolfVT wrote: Sat Jun 03, 2023 6:26 pmI would also ask about HP unless I missed that somewhere in another player's question perhaps.
A part of me wants to go true old school and what you roll is what you roll. However, I'm leaning towards half hit die + random half hit die at first level:

For example:

Fighter: 5+1d5
Cleric: 4+1d4
Thief: 3+1d3
Magic-User: 2+1d2

GreyWolfVT wrote: Sat Jun 03, 2023 6:26 pm As for groups I am good either way. 1 group 2 groups heck if you have the player numbers for it 3 groups. So long as we aren't running solo.
As long as it's not just a single group of ten players, I don't care how many parties we start with. I'm also fine with solo players if that is their preference, but this will not be a forgiving game so a solo player will need to be very careful (e.g. hirelings, avoiding conflict, etc...).

We'll wait to see the distribution of different character classes after the creation process officially opens up before deciding how the different groups will be formed.

I really like the idea of language levels... but I'm thinking about scrapping it.

Time for a new poll:

I've edited both polls to include an 'Abstain' option for those that don't really have a preference; I'm hoping to have ten total votes per poll, one per player.

Thought.

Both methods are available to any player. Choosing the 2d6+5 method with a lower floor will grant that character a +5% experience point bonus.

This way, we don't have to wait for the poll to close before you're able to start generating your characters.

In fact, I think I'm going to just make that the rule -- and remove the poll.

Actually, I started a 'Character Generation Rules' topic and added the details for this there. With a nice little bonus... :D

The campaign for this game has been created in the die roller.

Can everyone please create a character in the die roller, linked to campaign id 1028. Once your character has been created, please initialize that character by making a simple 1d1 roll. No need to post the results, but only rolls made after this initialization roll will be accepted.

Not, this step is NOT a green light to begin rolling up your characters!

If you feel like you're ready, please make a post in your private sub-forum and we can discuss how to get started.

Please see the update posted to the 'Ability Score Generation' rule which provides an option when your initial ability score rolls fail to produce a single roll of at least 15. :D

So, if you fail to get a 15 and decide to keep your score, you get an additional 10% bonus- so either 15 or 20% total? If you decide to reroll and your one reroll results in worse scores, you can keep the first set but do not get the bonus, correct?

Apologies for the delay, guys.

I'm going through some things at the moment (while it was necessary for my mental health, I'm starting to regret resigning from my last position as the job market right now sucks!) and I'm either busy searching for work, or failing to do anything as I allow the stress of unemployment or the depression at the lack of opportunities to weigh me down.

I'm still very much interested in getting this game started -- it's just taking longer to get ready than expected.

Take care of yourself first. Besides, I'd rather have a delay getting the game started than if the game gets going and you realize you just aren't in a place to be able to focus on it right now.

Tl;dr: Delaying the start is better than killing the momentum once we get going.

P.S.: Good luck with the job search. I have a friend who has been looking for a while and he's just super frustrated with the process.
