Harborside Hospital - Sanctuary of the Dead
Re: Harborside Hospital - Sanctuary of the Dead
Lesh is confused, human emotions are foreign to him but this...this didn't fit into the good "me eat" or bad "eat me " categories. He needed a whole new level of bad for this...ahh "damn bad" that was it. Hearing Ambergris' cry he snaps back to reality and realizes the gravity of the situation. Reflexively he calls to the werepanther to aid Ambergris and strikes at the nearest zombie with his macuahuitl the large wooden sword with embedded obsidian blades along the edges seeking to rend flesh from bone.

Re: Harborside Hospital - Sanctuary of the Dead
Harborside: Hall of the Dead 1
Initiative: Scalm (20), Lesh & Fist Guards (16), Ortran (9), Zombies (6), Ambergris (?)
Ambergris barks some orders and the rest of his companions, however temporary, obey. As the hall begins to fill up with zombies intent on a meal, Scalm steps forward, holding her hands in the air. As the zombies shuffle forward, the Tiefling mutters an infernal incantation and fire springs from her fingers in a burning wave!
Zombies hiss and growl as their rotting flesh sizzles and burns away, their clothing catching fire. Half a dozen fall not to rise again, but others shuffle forward still afire, arms outstretched to attack.
Lesh snaps out of his stupor at Bobb's bark, and heeds Ambergris' orders. Invoking shamanic magic, he summons a mystical werepanther to attack the nearest zombie. The spiritual cat leaps upon the zombie intent on eating Keever, claws rending bloody clothing and flesh to the bone. The zombie swipes at the cat to get it off, allowing Ambergris to drive his spear into its ribs and out the other side. With a sigh, the zombie falls, twitching in death.
Lesh then steps in front of the sea captain and smashes a flaming zombie with his macuahuitl, the large wooden sword with embedded obsidian blades along the edges, rending flesh and bone.
Bobb and Keever step up too, ganging up on another smoldering zombie sending it back to the grave where it now belongs.
Ortran pushes his way to the front, brandishing the holy symbol of Lathander! He chants and a radiant light bursts over the zombies, cutting them down, withering flesh and their undying spirit. They drop like flies before the glory of the Morning Lord! "Hallowed be his name!" Ortran shouts, watching the zombies fall and die.
Suddenly, a dark presence looms over the hall. The stench of rot and death mixes with the rancid burning flesh odor of the undead. At the end of the long hallway, near the top of the stairs leading to the basement levels, stands an imposing figure.

"A necromancer!" Ortran hisses, his voice filled with the glory of his lord. "Begone, grave robber! You have no pow---ARRGH!"
Ortran cries out as a ray of sickening greenish energy streaks down the hallway to slam the priest in the chest! Ortran sinks to his knees in pain, retching on the gory floor tiles.
The necromancer smirks at his handiwork, pulling back the hood on his head. "What once was a place of healing...is now a place for the dead. Since you have come, I assume you are ready to forfeit your lives to serve me in death. So be it."

Harborside: Hall of the Dead 2
Initiative: Ambergris (21), Scalm (20), Lesh & Fist Guards (16), Ortran (9), Zombies (6), Necromancer (4)
Amid the blood and guts and gore, Ambergris remembers something Willow told him and digs into his pockets. He finds a small sphere and hurls it at the Necromancer, hoping to blast him down the staircase into the hordlings behind. When the black bead strikes the floor, it explodes! The blast hurls the Necromancer about 10 feet from impact, while blasting several zombies...and encapsulating three of them!
As the Necromancer tries to find which way is up, Scalm hurls a blast of eldritch energry at him, knocking him back down!
Lesh raises his holy symbol and calls on "By Kelemvor, the Lord of the Dead, and Judge of the Damned cursed you are!"
Zombies cower and flee from the divine might of Kelemvor!
Ortran struggles to his feet and sends a bolt of lightning toward the Necromancer...missing him.
Bobb and Keever stand there ground, hacking and attacking any zombie that comes near. The Zombies, what few remain, press forward slowly toward the knot of companions intent on saving the hospital.
The Necromancer, however, has other ideas.
Finally getting to his feet, the Necromancer scowls at the companions, mutters some arcane language and a huge disembodied hand appears among the would be heroes! The huge bluish hand snatches Ortran, lifts him in the air, and crushes the life out of him! His scream is cut off as the crunching sound of bones sends chills down your spines! ACTIONS!!

"Bring him down!" he says pointing to the necromancer. A blue spark zapping from his finger to connect to him and gives him a burst of electrical energy,

Casting 'Witch Bolt', which is sustained via concentration for 1 minute.

"Bring him down!" Ambergris says pointing to the necromancer. A blue spark zaps from his finger streaking down the hall, but misses the necromancer by a foot, scorching the wall behind him.
Scalm tries to ignore the bloody broken mess that is Ortran's body as she sends a blast of eldritch magic toward the necromancer...but the screams of the priest still echo in her mind and spoil her aim.
Lesh, however, is not distracted at all. He and the spiritual werepanther are of the same mind and together, then rip flesh and bone from the necromancer! The werepanther bites and claws the man, while Lesh blasts him with a bolt of divine retribution!
Bobb and Keever follow up with arrows at the dreaded commander of the dead, Bobb's arrow striking him square in the chest! The necromancer cries out in pain...and is that a tinge of fear in his voice?...and responds with devastating effect. The disembodied hand grabs Scalm and crushes her ribs and shoulders! Bones snap and bloods spews out of her mouth, as it drops her in a lifeless heap on the floor!
Zombies, what few remain, begin to slowly shuffle down the hall toward the companions. From the left and right, somewhere in the distance, there are shouts and fighting as the other groups of the Flaming Fist are trying to get through to the main hallway. But will they arrive in time? Or will they succumb to the walking dead?

Ambergris
Missing with his Witch Bolt incantation is a bummer. Had he hit he could have sustained extra ongoing damage each but instead just zaps the wall. He doesn't have many offensive range spells.
He charges, summoning his pact weapon, an Entangling Net which he throws from close to to disadvantage his opponent and follows up with a stab of his spear.
Ambergris cast his pact weapon: Entangling Net [1d20+4]=12+4=16 spear thrust [1d20+3]=11+3=14 [1d6+3]=4+3=7

Harborside: Hall of the Dead 4
Initiative: Ambergris (21), Scalm (20), Lesh & Fist Guards (16), Zombies (6), Necromancer (4)
Charging down the hall, Ambergris summons a shimmering barbed net. Behind him, Bobb and Keever whoop and holler is some type of maniacal glee as they charge headlong to their doom! Casting his net, the sea captain strikes the wounded necromancer and then attempts to impale the man with his spear...but barely misses him, tearing a hole in his blackened robe instead.
Up close and personal, Ambergris gags at the smell coming off the commander of the dead; unlike anything he felt on his earliest days at sea.
"I see the look on your face, captain," the man hisses, his mouth filled with his own blood. "I can use men like you. This city needs a fresh start! A cleansing if you will! Out with the old, in with the new as the saying goes. Your mistress can surely see the potential to further her---ARGH!"
The necromancer's monologue is interrupted by the claws and bite of the spiritual werepanther summoned by Lesh! The necromancer screams and begins to summon his power...when Lesh sends a bolt of bluish light through the side of his face! The necromancer is flung against the wall, where he slides down, leaving a bloody, gory streak on the paneling. As he dies, the zombies under his command fall to the floor and do not rise again.
All at once it seems the fighting stops throughout the hospital. Slowly, quietly, footsteps announce the arrival of the surviving members of the Flaming Fist, those who pushed through other entrances to battle the dead. The Manip comes up the steps from the basement; his cloak shredded by the black talons of the walking dead, his armor dented, his arms bleeding. Wearily, he stops at the top of the stairs and removes his helm. Sweat pours down his bald head and face and he wipes his face with the inside of his arm and says, "How many more do ya reckon there are? I'm guessing that dead fellow there is the cause of all this?"

Still furious Lesh kicks the necromancer's body a few times, "Kelemvor damn thee" he hisses. He then turns to examine the bodies of Scalm and Ortran if they are beyond recovery he will perform the death rituals so their souls may pass on.

"Take their heads lest some wicked soul animates their bodies to be in unliving thralls again.
There may be more. I fear the worst. We have sailed a storm here but Hell's tides may wash ashore more bodies, castaways of the Great Deep or those drowning and in need of rescue.
We should search more."
He waffles a bit while the bodies are dealt with then determines "we continue a sweep of the hospital until it is reclaimed. We should have a flag to raise to declare that it is safe and those in Baldur's Gate may once more seek healing within these walls."

At Ambergris' words Lesh helps the Fists behead and burn the bodies. This finished he asks that the bodies of his former companions be properly taken care of before gesturing for Ambergris to lead the way.

Rallies the men, slapping one out of his mental freeze with a clout of his hook hand.
"Look lively lad. No lilly livers and lard arses on duty or you'll be scrubbing the decks of this fine establishment rinsing the floor of all the blood and guts and brain matter left behind.
Here that bit looks like yours."
He dangles a maggoty piece of zombie intestine on his hook and pops it in a matchbox. "Go fishing with that bit later. Sure to catch a whopper out in the bay.
Right, on to clearing any remnant hell spawn out and cleansing the place of evil doers and vagrants."

Re: Harborside Hospital - Sanctuary of the Dead
Harborside: Hall of the Dead...and the Living
"Kelemvor damn thee," Lesh hisses, kicking the necromancer's body a few times in his fury still unabated. He returns down the hall to examine Scalm and Ortran, finding both beyond help. Sadly, he begins the death rituals for their souls to pass on peacefully.
"Take their heads lest some wicked soul animates their bodies to be in unliving thralls again," Ambergris directs, his mind reeling from all of the negative, unearthly energy in this place.
The Manip looks up and down the hall, removing his waterskin and taking a healthy pull. More members of the Fist approach from another section of the back hall. Three men, one barely able to walk, missing a large chunk out of his left leg; the other two support him between them. "Did you get 'em all?" the Manip asks, not looking at the wounded soldier.
"I don't know, sir," one of the men manages, his own face sporting bloody claw marks.
"There may be more. I fear the worst. We have sailed a storm here but Hell's tides may wash ashore more bodies, castaways of the Great Deep or those drowning and in need of rescue.
We should search more."
Ambergris' words causes the young members of the Fist to shudder and they look at their commander for direction.
While Lesh takes care of the bodies of Scalm and Ortran, Ambergris waffles a bit before declaring "We continue a sweep of the hospital until it is reclaimed. We should have a flag to raise to declare that it is safe and those in Baldur's Gate may once more seek healing within these walls."
The Manip looks at one of his men. "See to it that it's done."
It takes awhile for Lesh and members of the Fist to behead and burn the bodies of the dead, making sure the bodies of Scalm and Ortran are to be interred in the cemetery grounds of the hospital. He then follows Ambergris.
The sea captain rallies the men of the Fist, slapping one of the men with his hook hand.
"Look lively lad. No lilly livers and lard arses on duty or you'll be scrubbing the decks of this fine establishment rinsing the floor of all the blood and guts and brain matter left behind.
Here that bit looks like yours."
As he puts a piece of zombie gut in a box, mentioning about using it to fish with later, one of the men turns quite pale and green and turns to spew his breakfast along the gore-splattered wall. The Manip sighs and shakes his head, then rolls his eyes up at Ambergris.
"Right, on to clearing any remnant hell spawn out and cleansing the place of evil doers and vagrants."
And so begins the cleansing of Harborside Hospital. The men of the Fist and the surviving companions go from room to room, office to office, down halls and up and down stairs. They find very few folk alive; even though there were a few who hid in terror in clothes bins, doctor's offices, under beds and in locked closets...some of whom had to be coaxed out with a gentle word and promise of safety.
In one room which looked like the scene of a massacre, they found a young nurse protecting six sickly children with a bedpan and a scalpel. She burst into tears when the men arrived, and so did the children; nevertheless, they go her and the children out of there and down the hall where a triage room had been created only an hour or so ago.
It took hours, but the group found no undead, living or unliving anywhere in the hotel. But they did find something very concerning:
At the bottom of the stairs, down another long hall, there was an opening in the wall revealing a passage into darkness.
"Obviously, this passage was sealed long ago. What say you, preacher? Ya want to go in and take a look?"
"Kelemvor damn thee," Lesh hisses, kicking the necromancer's body a few times in his fury still unabated. He returns down the hall to examine Scalm and Ortran, finding both beyond help. Sadly, he begins the death rituals for their souls to pass on peacefully.

Winter is coming...

Lesh stoops down to Scalm's body and takes a leather strap or some trinket before he turns to Ambergris. "To Willow word we send." Turning toward the door he snarls, "Them up we fuck ka-ka-ka."

Ambergris
"Torches" he gestures the accompanying guards carry one and follow and so, with a gesticulation of faith, he enters the void.

Re: Harborside Hospital - Sanctuary of the Dead
Torches are called for and a handful of the Fist lead the way through the gap and into the passage beyond. Ambergris and Lesh follow and find themselves in some sort of chamber where bodies are prepped for internment."Right, on to clearing any remnant hell spawn out and cleansing the place of evil doers and vagrants."

Lit torches illuminate this chamber. From the landing you now stand upon, a shallow staircase leads down into a room obviously designed to allow corpses to be prepared for burial. At the bottom of that staircase is the corpse of a human woman, crumpled and broken. The statue of some winged celestial being overlooks the scene from its pedestal east of the stairs. Several tables stand against the east and west walls, and all but two of the seven have corpses on them. Farther into the chamber is a long pile of crushed stone where somebody or something toppled and crushed two of the tables. Aside from the one table that is beyond that debris, the farthest features you can see are vault doors along the north wall, a couple of which hang open, exposing the rudely tousled bones within.
Aside from an occasional drip of water somewhere off in the distance, there is no other sound except the flickering of the torches...
(Your current position is on the landing with steps leading down into the chamber; left side of map)
