May 18th 1066

Statue of Herne attacked.

A public news notice has been pinned up on the town notice board. It has scant details of an apparent raid upon Herne devotees, assaulted in the Shrine which is a fee miles west of Helix.

Several dead. The attack was driven off after some bitter hand to hand combat. The attackers are noted as being scaly humanoids but not lizardmen. Some of the wounded have been treated for snake bites and lie in isolation in the hospice.

Lord Krothos despatched a mounted troop detachment to follow the brigands trail which disappeared back into the western marches of the Barrow Moor.

May 19th 1066

In other news, a Sauron Soothsayer has been caught and charged with the murder of Old Basil and his apprentice rangers.

Guards have apprehended the suspect following a raid upon a tribal patrol caught near the Old Dwarf Bridge.

The prisoner is to be tried in the court at the Old Manse and if as expected, found guilty, will be hung drawn and quartered in the village square.

The notices are still valid, for example the Spider Silk is an ongoing recruitment as the need is weekly. Others like the Sauron quest has been answered.

By now, Cosmo's wanderings have taken him to the bulletin board. While eyeing the announcements, he catches sight of a striking dame also perusing the board, whose appearance somehow rings a bell. Trying one of his more obscure known languages, he addresses her in a neutral but friendly tone, as if asking for directions:

"Godagens. Eh, vackert väder idag ?"

counting on that if she should not understand him, he can just mumble something and be off again.

The main bulletin board is being updated and the town crier in full voice, ringing his bell and announcing local village news such as births and engagements and also reading obituaries of the victims of the recent Hospice Blaze.

The Town Crier tolls his bell upon the hours, exalting various escapades, informing of local news, advertising the Wanted: 'dead or alive' brigands on the Duchy rogue list, the need for hired hands and certain skills.

The new linguist elf in town adds his own bulletin reply and goes in search of the mage.

Fydmar finds his luck is in and the week long tolling of the Town Crier's bell calling out his need brings a result.

During his downtime, he is approached in the tavern by a farmer who has a small tithe barn lying empty and with a source of regular rental income, is happy to sort a contract out with the dwarf.

Red Stag Farm: small barn with stable quarters and hayloft. -1gp weekly fee.

He also gets a call back from the forge and a young apprentice smith, Moony offers his services. You can employ him as a retainer, covering his upkeep at basic tavern rate (-8sp) and a labour fee of -1gp daily.

He has a Wisdom attribute of 12 which I will use to roll checks against to set a quality of work standard.

-46gp for both fees on a month basis.
