I agree with Ron! (most of the time) ;)

You are welcome to give either of my games a whirl, no xp necessary. :D

Take a look and let me know if you're interested.

My style of game is a lot like driving with your eyes shut.

Please do! PM me whenever you need. With regards to D&D, 1e/OSRIC is my favorite, though I’ve played some OD&D and a wee bit of 2e. My daughters had me play a couple sessions of 5e, but don’t tell anyone here, they may ask for my grognard card back.
You’ll find people here are patient and more than willing to answer any questions. Good luck finding a game soon and have fun!!
This is a game about killing things and taking their stuff so you can become more powerful in order to kill bigger things and take even better stuff.

Pulpatoon: The whole point of PbP is to take the scheduling pressure off the game. We're just chatty because we're so eager!
Scott308: ...everyone should be reminded of just how wonderful the people they play games with here can be in real life.
Leitz: Quality and quantity wise, I think US is the best I've seen.
Paladin: I can promise terror, glory, and riches...or a quick and brutal death.
Inferno: Come on! That's was Vicar's Head, a completely different doomed village!
Rex: I can move to the wait list to let someone else into the game.

By the way, you can get the Players Handbook (1e) on DriveThru via print on demand for $21.50 (standard) or $31.50 (premium), which isn't terrible if you're opposed to PDFs.

(For comparison sake, the hardcover of the OSRIC rules is $25.50 on Lulu.)

I haven't personally ordered a print-on-demand title from DriveThru (I love my PDF collection! :D ), but I have read positive reviews about the quality. Speaking of which, apparently the difference between their standard and premium print options is the weight or thickness of the paper and the ink/technology used, per Curious about the difference in B&W vs Premium Color vs Standard Color books?.

I grew up playing 1e and Basic D&D, and familiarized myself with 2e here on the boards in 2012, but I currently play (and prefer) 5e. If you want to take a shot at the newest edition, I currently have two games running and love working with new players. I could easily get you worked into either.

Thank you I'll have to take a look! I'm all about casual games. That's one thing I like about RPG's over wargaming especially GW games. Too many WAAC and meta gamers that only care about winning than enjoying the overall game.

I keep looking at 1e more and more. Before reading all the responses I was looking at Labryinth Lord as a good clone, but I don't want to get too far ahead at the moment. What is OSRIC? I only know of it by name but never looked into it.

Really? I didn't know DriveThru did print-on-demand. I'm always living under a rock these days.. I don't mind if everything is black and white, I just like having the physical copy in my hands. That's so cool! :D

I'm always curious you'll be seeing me lurking in the forums like a church house creeper.

The DriveThru prints are actually in color... well, where applicable, which I assume would be limited to just the front and back covers. All the interior illustrations, I imagine, will still be in black-and-white (just as they were in the original PHB). I can't see them going back in and converting all the interior art to color (and I personally wouldn't want them to).

That's fine with me, as long as the book is well made and doesn't fall apart like an unraveling roll of toilet paper. :D

Welcome RiverGreenForest! I just replied to your thread looking for a game on DF. Small world. I've played in a couple of games here and they are very good so you've come to the right place. :D

I have ordered a couple of print books from DriveThru and I'm very satisfied with the results. One was rather large and its held up fine so far.

I'd be willing to bet good money that they'll be sturdier than the orange-spine reprints for 1e. Those things were trash.

Oh what?? I'll have to go see! Thank you! I'm new, I was recommended here by Ron rredmond. I feel like a tourist in a foreign country right now. Everywhere I go in the RPG world my mind is blown lol.

If I didn't know about DriveThru, I would've toughed it out on ebay. A lot of the AD&D 1e PHB looked like they seen some years. Some looked water logged others looked like they were used as bucklers. One copy had a brown stain that looked like it was used for toilet paper, seller wanted $60-$80. Should've been sold for $10 and a pair of rubber gloves..

Got my copy of 5e, just now reading it to see the difference from the 4e.
