Re: Chapter 3: Taverns and New Adventures
The Offer of Adventure
Kaerin responds to both Therick and Egon "I think you might be suitable people for helping me with a problem I have. I've only just moved in, having come from Specularum, and I'm still taking stock of the whole house. It looks wonderful-apart from the basement."
Kaerin shifts in his armchair and leans forward, looking at each of you in turn. "I haven't told you everything of importance. That note is worrying me because it could concern important people. I can't tell you everything, but I will promise to be wholly truthful in what I do tell you. Kavorquian 's basement holds some of his magical items and also some treasure. I want you to find something down there for me, a sword with an unmistakable gem-set hilt and pommel. Also, there is a diamond tiara that I know is there, because Kavorquian told me about it. I want the sword and tiara you get everything else you can find.
Kaeron pauses again to see everyone's reactions then continues "The problem is, the old man fitted the basement with traps and magical guardians. Nothing meant to be lethal, but it could be dangerous possibly very much so, because some of his guardians might be out of control now. My problem is simple." Kaerin ruefully points to the missing arm. "I'm not in a position to go down myself and get what I want. I was just about to advertise for adventurers to help when you showed up." Kaerin pauses and smiles. "Well?" he asks. "Are you interested? Before you say yes or no, though, remember that you can have everything other than the sword and tiara you find in the basement. You must promise to deliver those two items to me. I will also pay you 250 gold pieces each for finding those two items. And I must have them in 48 hours."
Actions?

Weston
The priest's light up at the offer if exploring the mages basement.
"Well, that certainly sounds very interesting. I'm up for such a task. And you do mean we keep anything we find which isn't those two items you want, whatever their nature, such as any notes or treatise on spells and magic?"

Kaerin smiles kindly at Weston and replies "Yes that is the reward on top of the gold. You keep what you find except for those two items."shaidar wrote:Weston

Delsenora
Having listened to the conversation and offer, Del is amenable to the offer and says as much.
"I am all for helping you get the said sword and tiara, no matter if there is gold and other treasure involved,"
comes her reply.

"This is a suitable job for us. We can start in the morning," agrees Urtesi.
He turns to Lord Kaerin. "Unfortunate that your uncle should pass away before we had a chance to meet him. May he find peace in the afterlife in the realm of whatever gods he worshipped."
"So how did he die?"

Kaerin responds back "My fa...uncle Kavorquian died from natural causes. The old wizard was nearly 90 years old, and unlike some wizards, didn't want to live forever. It was his body that gave out due to his advanced age. After all for a human to live for 90 years was quite the feat in its own."alver wrote:"This is a suitable job for us. Kaerin looks around and listens to the conversation noticing that some are not eating "Please eat we can discuss and eat this lovely food my cooks have made. As for traps I don't know I only just moved into the place a month ago. How you would get past said traps well I am not the right person to ask as you can see i lost an arm facing the result of one."

Therick chows down on the food and drink until he cleans the plate and empties the glass.

"So basically you wish us to go into a dangerous, trap filled place, risk our lives to bring you back some items?
Is this pretty much the gist of your desire? You wish us to risk our lives for a few gold pieces, possibly perish in the process?
I don't mind dieing in good faith, but if it is for naught, or a useless cause, I prefer to live. Give me a good reason to go
fetch your precious items at our peril, besides the measly 250 gold you think our lives are worth each. Money means
absolutely nothing to me so you can't impress me with your gold or promises of treasure. "

Elanriel
Elanriel is a little surprised at Delsenora's sudden slightly snippy tone. It seems a little unlike her, but she decides maybe her friend is just testing the waters, trying to shake things up a bit. So, Elanriel pauses mid-mouthful and waits with interest for Lord Kaerin's response. After all, she wouldn't say so herself, but she doesn't know this man. How can they be sure he is who he says he is? And, can he be trusted? All they really know is that the wizard was in danger and now he is dead. She will follow Del without hesitation wherever the priestess leads her, but she too would very much like to know more before they go into danger on this man's behalf.

Kaerin "That is quite alright those that wish to go down can and those that don't are guests and can stay up here with me and the staff. Just those that don't go won't get paid mind you. I'm sorry that all I can offer is coin and whatever is found that is not the two items i asked for." he replies to Del.tarlyn wrote: Delsenora

Trist
Trist decides to enjoy the meal and has one drink. She says during the meal, "Kaerin, 250 gp and anything we find sounds real nice to me."
Secretly she suspects Kaerin killed the old man and he could be either a son or nephew of the old wizard.
Trist later confides with the others of her suspicions about Kaerin.

Kaerin "If you wish to think about this offer further you are guests and can stay here for the night or if you would rather the inn isn't far from here. It's up to you I've been as forthcoming with the information I know, and I've been a good host for being new to this lord of the manner business." looks slightly insulted Kaerin gets up and pardon's himself from the dinning hall and moves to the study where a fire is already going he sits in a comfy chair and picks up a book and begins reading.
Cale the butler returns to the dinning hall to see how things are going "Is everyone enjoying the food, can I get anyone anything?"
