Long sword can backstab.
Normally I handle those stealth rolls, since a PC won't know in advance if they succeeded. But since you're committed to the action, you may roll.

Please subtract 20 from each roll result due to darkness and the noise of the fray. Good luck!

I just realized, Buck is an NPC now (with no replacement player in sight).
And only PCs get to live until -10 hit points.

He's seriously going to ditch this piece of $#!&.

I'm beginning to think it should take an epic quest to ditch it. Something akin to dropping it into the heart of Mount Doom.
Does this wonderful artifact have a name?

So is Buck truly dead or just 'out of sight'? I didn't see damage posted from the tiger attack to bring him to -10 or less. Would help decide Ko-Nan's next move.

I'm taking a brief break from these boards. Everything is okay. I just have an opportunity to go camping and hiking in several national parks with my family for the next two months. I've never been able to take that much time off at once before. But unfortunately, I'll be away from a keyboard.

So, after everyone replies to my latest DM post, we'll pause the game until I get back in early August.
