The After Aftermath

Angella returns to the group and suggests that there may be more than one demon that needs to be dealt with in this town. She doesn't like the status of the groups current health situation. Orando arises again in true form as Ozwaldus presents a clue that he has discovered to the group.

Ernie is still standing there in silence, staring at the spot where the succubus last stood with his mouth agape. Brother Tomas scowls at Sir Ugghra as he gives him yet another unpleasant verbal jab, but he lets the mongrel cast his detection spell. Nothing in the room reveals itself to be of an evil aura, including the priests holy symbol.

Brother Tomas answers your questions as best he can under the current circumstances. He seems very nervous and clearly has no idea how he is going to explain all of this to the rest of the townspeople. Orando casts his own detection magics on the priest and finds everything Tomas says to be true to his current mindset and feelings.

That desk belonged to her father! There is no way that my April would have defaced it in such a manor. As far as I know, April was an only child. If she did have a brother, she never mentioned a word about him to me.

If demons can blink in and out of places so easily, I'm guessing that they don't need to use normal doors like the rest of us. Perhaps the cages were installed after the mad mage already departed his tower. It is possible that they are now covering a doorway that is no longer in use. We didn't check the backs of all the cages, did we?

Father Dowling turns to his fellow priest and asks, what did you mean exactly, when you said, "I could feel that my holy symbol wanted me to confront the succubus"?

Well, it's hard to explain really. I can somehow tell that it wanted my to get close to her. It gave me the impression that it has some type of power over her kind. It even started to move and vibrate in her direction. Alas, I know very little of these dealings with dangerous demons and devils! I can consult my higher order about how to proceed, but that could take weeks to get an answer and I fear what destruction the demoness could cause to our humble town by then.

I hate to say this, but I think we need to go back to the tower and see what we can find.......beyond the cages.

It is only now mid morning. We can go to the temple first. I have some healing elixir stashed away for emergencies....... and I think that this would definitely fall into that category. I don't think it wise for us to rest first. I think we need to press the attack now, while she is weakened, instead of letting her regain all of her powers and health. I'm afraid I won't be much help in the way of fighting, but I am very curious to see what this holy symbol can really do. I have worn this every day of my life, for all those long years....

The priest looks at each of you expectantly, hoping that you see the logic in his words. He seems oddly enthusiastic about getting on with this endeavor, even know it could end very badly for everyone.

Orando:
The only other thought currently on his mind seems to be the health and well being of Positive Steve. He knows that his healing will only do so much and he wishes very badly that he had enough of Pelor's favor to be able to regenerate the poor mans terrible wounds.

"Did this she-demon where April's regenerative ring? If so we have even less time than we thought. But going against such a creature unprepared would be suicide. Without protection from evil what's to stop her dominating our minds again? Without healing I won't last even to getting to her lair. We have no real magic left to attack her with, I doubt any weapons I have will even harm her, for such creatures are said to be immune to mundane equipment. Does the town have any enchanted weapons we could borrow, or any cold iron or silver weapons? If she can just vanish at a moments notice what's to stop her doing so again once confronted? If she can take Aprils form she may be able to replicate anyone's, she could be anyone. And if she can turn us against each other at a moments notice we need to at least stop making each other unstoppable to give ourselves a fighting hanged here. Finally if she does have another demon with her ..... the monk shivers and shakes her fiery hair.

Sir Ugghra, half-orc aristocrat:

The atrocious acolyte of Quo spoke soothingly to the woman, hoping it would calm her enough that she could break free from the grip of hysteria for which the weaker sex was known. ;)

"There, There Now, Madam. Yes. All You Say Is True. However the Demoness Will Only Grow Stronger With Each Passing Hour. Screw Your Courage To The Sticking Place! Now That The Wicked Malefactor Has Been Unmasked, I Can Call Upon Holy Blessings To Protect Against Creatures of Its Nefarious Ilk.
Stiff Upper Lip! We Would Do Well To Be On Our Way With All Speed! Chop Chop!"

The noble orc of action turned, "Tomas, Ernie, We'll Need Those Healing Elixirs Now, Thank You. And Are There Steeds That Could Hasten Our Return To The Tower, That We Might Press The Fleeting Advantage Of A Wounded, Cornered Enemy?"

Orando, mystic milf

"Aye, I spent my magick quite rapidly in the battle," the elven sorcerer adds to Angela's comments. "If I am to recover any arcane energies I will need a night's sleep. If the vote is no delay, I will make due without."

"Many demons are known to have innate resistance to magick, making spell attacks difficult. We need to neutralize her abilities - perhaps stopper our ears against her suggestive voice."

"Divine protection from evil prayer will repel her, though the recipient himself will not be able to directly attack her. As I possess no magic weapons, perhaps being under such protection will keep me safe to cast helpful spells not directly upon her."

"Ugghra and Epi's enchanted weapons could pose a threat, if they were able to make sustained attacks. April's henchman need to be neutralized so they do not detract our focus on the demoness."

"The holy symbol talisman will be our key defense. We must have it with us at all times, whether that means Brother Tomas accompanying us or not."

"Or, perhaps more wisely, we can leave Brotherton to its fate."

Epi

"Was anyone able to determine if she could charm people while silenced...it don't recall her trying, but it is hard to say for sure. Once charmed could she command others only verbally was she able to direct her thoughts to compel others to do her bidding? What magical weapons do we have. Any besides my sword and Sir Ugghra's weapon?"

Father Dowling

I have no magical weapons, not that I would be likely to use them effectively against a demon were I to have them. I do have a few spells that could be useful, including a spell that will protect the recipient against evil creatures, such as the demon. As much as I would like to take some time to rest and prepare new spells, I feel we should not allow the demon time to recover.

"I have only these in the way of magical weapons," says Ozwaldus holding up his darts, blushing slightly in recollection of his recent "swing and miss" with said projectiles, "but for all I know they could be darts of demon enhancing... Also, unfortunately, I prepared spells for today in the belief we'd be confronting and trying to deceive the mayoress in less... diabolical form. I'm afraid I'm ill prepared for an assault. Perhaps my attentions would best be focused on any henchmen she may have? I'll do my best."

Angella does not like the idea of going after a demon, or several demons. She makes many good points about how not to confront such creatures. The pompous Sir Ugghra shoots her down with a few soft but grand words, mentioning that he still has magic that can help the party greatly. He recommends leaving for the tower immediately and even inquires about speedier travel possibilities.

Orando counters with even more good points, adding them to Angella's. He is willing to go now but would much rather rest first. Or, simply move along altogether and leave this place to its fate. Epi brings up the idea that the enemy might need to be heard for her to possession to work. She takes a count of all the weapons in the group that will harm the demon but still only comes up with the two magical swords.

Father Dowling also expresses the desire to move against this evil now rather than wait. He too explains that he retains magical prayers that will help against the demon. Even Ozwaldus mentions a desire to help out. He holds up some darts that he isn't sure will even harm the demon or not, then offers to take on the slightly less deadly henchmen.

Brother Tomas only snickers and shakes his head when asked about the town owning magical weapons. He does perk up a bit when horses are suggested, though.

Yes! We can take the horses from the temples stable. They will get us out there much faster than walking. Let us go now! We have healing elixirs! Enough for everyone, but we must go now!

He tells Ernie to run ahead and prepare the mounts so they are ready when you arrive. After a brisk walk across the town, with many eyes now watching your every move, you arrive at the temple. Tomas pulls out a locked coffer and produces 6 potion bottles.

Two of these are very potent and will cure serious wounds. The other 4 are less potent, but should still help. I'm afraid that is all I have so, please drink them as you see fit so we can get out to those ruins right away!

The 2 extra healing potions heal 6-27 (3d8+3)
The other four are normal and will heal 4-10 (2d4+2)
I will let you all decide who gets what, but can we please just trust the priest this time?

How's this, everyone?

Angella 2/20: Down 18: One Xtra potion?

Orando joins the others in partaking the Brother Tomas' holy wine of healing.

"Do you have any holy water? I have heard that it is harmful to demonfolk."
The healing suggestions sound fine. Do I roll 3d8+3 or DM?

Father Dowling

I would like to get a couple vials of holy water. I think it would be a waste to use any healing on me right now. It should be saved for one of the warriors, who will be more likely to need it than I.

"Yes, I'll make due," says Ozwaldus. He reflexively reaches for his wine flask, then pauses, wondering if his loss would have any negative impact on the group whatsoever. "Ahem... I can always create the illusion that I've been healed, if necessary."

Sir Ugghra, half-orc aristocrat:

"Thank You, Good Brother," the pompous paladin articulated as he secured one (regular) potion among his effects and, with all due haste, followed Tomas to the steeds that will bear them to complete their noble undertaking at last.

The three girls gulp down one potion each, leaving 3 of the normal healing elixirs left. Their wounds heal nicely and they feel much better for it. Ugghra, Epi, and Dowling each pocket one of the remaining potion bottles for future consumption.

Brother Tomas looks pleased and very much ready to depart.

Yes, yes! I never even thought of holy water. I do have a few vials of that for just such an occasion as well. He goes into another storage room and brings back a total of 6 small glass containers filled with the blessed H2O. He distributes them out to whoever wants them.

Ernie then rushes back into the temple to tell the Brother that the mounts are prepared.

Are we all ready to go then?
