Blodget, halfling thief:

The foolish young hobbit ignores the sage counsel of a great and mighty champion again. He softly pads over to the chest and, licking his lips and wiggling his fingers in anticipation, sets about searching it for nefarious, nasty tricks and traps, of the sort that evil diabolical giants are wont to lay for poor young beanstalk-climbers like sweet, innocent Blodget.

Is the chest and its lock giant-sized? Are the books? Thanks.

A few of the books are giant sized but most are of a normal size and shape. Most of them are ripped apart or soiled in other ways. On a cursory look, you find none of significant value or interest.

The chest is large but not giant sized. It is unlocked and the foolish young hobbit does not see any traps when he searches.

Blodget, halfling thief:

Wide-eyed and eager, Blodget opens the chest!

The tiny halfling has all he can do just to open the heavy lid by himself.

The chest appears to be empty.

Blodget, halfling thief:

"What?! Of all the cruel, mean tricks, if you pardon my saying!" Blodget exclaimed. He dejectedly examined the bottom of the chest for more nasty traps. If he found none, then he felt the bottom, looking for a secret door.

The dejected Halfling searches around at the bottom of the huge chest.

His spirits perk up a bit when he discovers a hidden latch that opens a large secret compartment at the bottom of the chest.

He finds no traps protecting the opening mechanism.

Blodget, halfling thief:

Blodget jumped with a yelp, like a kid caught with his hand in the cookie jar.

Head down to hide his reddening cheeks, he scampered back to the front of the party and continued onward into the castle, looking for sneaky tricks and traps in the path of the mighty champions.

Wait, Mira invisibly interjects, It's possible, however unlikely, that something of use could be hidden there. Allow Blodget the chance to prove or disprove this for us.

tk saves the day!
Inside the compartment is another book. It appears to be bound in the skin of the ugly snow demons. A cursory glance through the index reveals a great deal about your enemy.

Wyntar

My apologies Blodget, my thoughts are jumping ahead to the future confrontation with the snow demon's leader and not the immediate present. Keep burglaring!!

"we seem to be doing ok on that score already Xano," the paladin says grimly , before beginning to whistle 'let it snow, let it snow.'

"The rest question is how to free the cloud giants from this Yesorkah, Yesorcka, whatever her damn name is, without hurting them. See Trotter, not all giants are bad. We need something that will incapacitate the host body without killing it. Perhaps my holy aura will keep her from jumping to a new host. If we can find the gem that might help. Attacking to subdue would work on taking the giant out without killing him/her. Anyone got any spell's that might help. That fool fire priest could have done it I bet." he sighs, looking hopefully at the others for any inspiration.

He pats his fellow halfling upon the back in a well done motion.

Blodget, halfling thief:

The foolish young hobbit was somewhere between bursting with pride from all those kind accolades, and bitter disappointment that all he found was a boring book and no shiny gold or gems. There weren't even any pictures!

"That's okay!" he said to Wyntar as he handed over the tome to the mighty champions. "I've never been much good at book learnin' anyway!"

No problem, HG! :)

The frightened little slightly proud hobbit does get a look at one picture in the book. It is on the very first page and it makes him gasp out loud when he sees it.

Check the spoiler in this post.

Blodget, halfling thief:

"Aaah!!!" yelped Blodget at the scary picture. Then, embarrassed, he tried to regain his composure.

After the mighty wizards and scholars read the boring book, the little hobbit would politely resume his place at the front of the group to check for booby traps in their path as they continue further into the castle of the evil Cloud Giant.

Thanks! That was a fun little interaction. :D

Skimming through the book reminds the group that they are not here to slay the good aligned cloud giants. Hopefully they can remember this when confronted by the massive enemy that is most certainly trying to kill them.

Halo brings up some possible alternatives to outright slaughter. Blodget checks out the only future path, the steps down, and finds no traps blocking their way.

Please partake in the strategic discussion in OOC. (thanks Storm) I'm not trying to rush you, I just wanted to be sure everyone was ready to move along before I continued.
