Could we see if Spicoli can magnify imagery on the crates or their grav carts to see is they have engraved serial numbers, corporate symbol stenciled, etc.? Perhaps see if he can link to video of the proper timframe backtracking the murderers’ steps?

They have labels but are not large enough to magnify. At the least this means they are not official cargo.

OOC: In view of the above do we need to go dirtside? There maybe some post (or maybe PM) I've missed here. So apologies in advance for failing to grasp this!

I believe William wanted to figure out what was in it and where it came from. What you do is up to you!

William spoke up. "While we are waiting on Garvin's girlfriend to look through the Christmas presents it seemed to me that we could investigate what the pair of murderers were up to planet side. Let's take the ship to the down port and do this as legally as possible at least upfront. Before we leave let's check the passenger manifests to and from the down port to narrow things down a bit. Once we get planet side we can do more digging and breakout the spy tools. Walt can get his samples of the atmosphere from several locations if nothing else."

There are records of the two heading down after the Overland Express first arrived. They were down there five days and returned shortly before the ship was scheduled to depart. There is no data other than their recorded trips down and back up. Very bare bones.
I'll post about the arrival down there, but you can keep up any up-port shenanigans if needed.

It takes about an hour to get a reserved landing slot at the downport, and the trip down is smooth. Like many downports, you'll land in an open area that is designed for ships and will get she spiel about the local conditions. The atmosphere is tainted, so a filter mask is required. The locals are militant vegans, so do not take meat products out of the port and be warry of criticizing the food choices of the locals as there has been violence in the recent past. All firearms other than stunners are banned. Openly carrying legal weapons is discouraged. Dedicated, visible armor is banned.
A more detailed writeup is available in the Library Data:
viewtopic.php?p=715776#p715776
Now that the ship has settled into place, you can leave it and begin your investigations. Over to you.

That's great and I'm all for it. I just couldn't see / work out the intent of the enquiry from the available posts when prompted to move it along!

Oddly enough I did have her in mind (hence non direct speech) but then went on to assume she was very much front of house.
And cue Jaelah. Her prior encounter with Garvin was him wearing a "sea silk" dressing gown and speedos while claiming to be spearfishing with a deck crew apparently hired from the playboy mansion... so it's not like there's precedent or anything that would impugne his character...
Jaelah's initial reaction amounted to an eye roll and a sigh. She escorted him back to the ship without a word.

Garvin gives William a good natured grin whilst replying
"Oi, she's not my "girlfriend" she's our boss..." He stops then jovially resumes with
"Anyway, with respect, comin' over all envious of the Guild's "cultural representative" just 'cos 'e got an invite to a posh dinner is unbecoming of the senior proto-Ancient. Wasn't all ruddy gravy you know - I 'ad to do small talk with that wonker the "Crapp'd in (sic) of Knowledge"!"
Putting his game face on Garvin states
"Brief me in, tell me where you want me an' I'm there".

Roscoe will be taking his stunner and his flying swords (2). Someone wanted a "knitting needle" version of the flying dagger (Arkar?) and he would have made it. Same stats as the flying dagger. If anyone else wanted them (including a standard flying static blade dagger) he would have had Bilis print up copies.
Flying Static Blade Sword
Hits: 1
Locomotion: Grav
Speed: Up to 300 km/h (high)
TL: 18 (due to improved wireless range)
Skills: Athletics (dexterity) 1, Electronics (computers) 1, Melee (blades) 5, Navigation 1, Recon 2, Stealth 1, Tactics (military) 1
Attacks: Static Blade (3D+2 AP 6)
Manipulators: 0 X (STR 0 DEX 10)
Endurance: 96 hours (24 hours at max speed)
Traits: Armour (+10), Flyer, Small (-4), (high), Heightened Senses, IR/UV Vision, (+10 vs. lasers), Hardened
Programming: Very Advanced (INT 11)
Options: Auditory Sensor (broad spectrum), Transceiver 5,000 km (advanced), Visual Spectrum Sensor, Voder Speaker (broad spectrum), Drone Interface, PRIS Sensor, Reflec Armour, Vacuum Environment Protection, Weapon Mount (small), Wireless Data Link (superior, 1,000 m)
The Flying Static Blade Dagger is identical in features, except that its damage is 2D+2.

"I'm yer people person". He then soberly adds
"She's powerful enough to bust Imperial nobles, strip 'em of their titles an' stick 'em in front of a firing squad. Do we think we want 'er on our side?" He then smiles
"You can call me compromised an' do bear that in mind for future jobs if you like but I think she's actually "good people". She told me she wouldn't even ask about all the gear she more than strongly suspects we've nicked. I'll freely admit I more than like 'er but I think we're all mutually benefittin' 'ere".
"If she's playin' me an' runnin' a long con I just can't see it yet. Point of Order for Guild business. I'll appoint Arkar as me confessor an' tell 'im everythin'. If there's a con runnin' me an 'im should work it out. If 'e thinks I'm over the side 'e can tell you. Fair enough?"

While she might be that powerful, she never claimed that SHE arrested or tried him. In fact, he ran afoul of Imperial Intelligence and the Count in Glisten sentenced him. She wasn't involved at all, other than being read in. On the other hand, she can apparently hand off his property.

"I'm just wondering if she knows what she's gotten herself into." She raises her hand before he can comment.
"I trust your judgement in this, Garvin. I know that you're a lot of things, but you're no fool. You know full well what you have signed up for, and so does she." She looks down for a moment and takes a breath.
"I have a confession of my own. I would like to approach Roscoe. He wants to know more about being a human, and I see a lot in him as a man."

I’d assumed the grav static blades fell into the energy weapon ban. Apparently not. So Walt will change his mundane dagger for the grav Static Dagger and bring along the sword.

I'm sure someone with a stick up their butt might disagree, but once again, it falls between the defined categories.
