Everyday Life in Beachtown
Re: Everyday Life in Beachtown
Jack, lost boy:
Carefree Jack sleeps hard and untroubled. When the sun rises, so does he.
"Everyone! Wake up! It's time to go adventuring!"
When the grownups keep sleeping, he mopes out of the shack and begins snooping around Beachtown at dawn looking for trouble and/or adventure. Also, pancakes.

Devrin wakes before dawn. He eats lightly from his rations, preferring the cold food to something hot on the humid, jungle island. He then relaxes his mind and studies his spell book, memorizing a second 'Comprehend Languages' spell. He then carefully replaces his spell book. Putting on his armor and gear, he steps outside do do his sword drills.
Devrin, hearing Jack's exclamation, speaks up. "Indeed, lad! It IS time to go adventuring. You look a bit... youthful ... for such pursuits, though."Inferno wrote:Jack, lost boy:

"Um... where are you adventuring today? ...And do you have any pancakes?"
"Youthful?! I'm older than you!" is Jack's knee-jerk reply. Then he sees he's speaking to a fellow elf. "Oh... sorry."SirOwen wrote:Devrin, hearing Jack's exclamation, speaks up. "Indeed, lad! It IS time to go adventuring. You look a bit... youthful ... for such pursuits, though."

Moonday, 22nd of Reaping
Early Morning, Hot and Sunny
The evening goes by uneventfully again and the adventurers are able to get in a comfortable nights sleep. Well, as comfortable as a buggy beach shack and an old hammock can offer anyway. (+2 hp's) The heavy clouds seem to have floated on by the island during the night and the bright blue morning sky begins to lighten as the hot sun starts to rise up over the trees.
Jack the elven alarm clock gets up early as usual and begins the day on a hunt for the griddle. He and Devrin have a conversation about what this new day may bring. Jack hopes its pancakes.
Keilif goes to the shack of the unconscious and still resting gnome Ferris. He recites the now common phrases to elicit the powers of the Sea Mother so he can heal the gnome back to life again. CLW for 6 more hp's Wes is there shortly after doing his own medetations and the three of them begin to look around for Franny to see if she still wants to go along on their trip back to the river this morning.
Okay, please carry on then.

As the morning light slowly increases, Devrin makes out the fine features and elegant ears of Jack. "I thought I knew all the children here. I didn't know there were any Olven children on the island!"

Monocar
After doing his part with taking the body to Nehru and finding out it was indeed his nephew, Monocar makes for the waterfront, walking right by the firepit as he unbuckles his armor and leaves it lying on the sand, wading out to his knees in the water. He strips out of his filthy shirt and plops down into the water and does what he can to scrub the grime off himself and out of his cloth.... shirt. He doesn't let himself think of any of the events from the past couple days as he focuses on his easy tasks. Clean the shirt. Clean yourself. He dunks his head one last time running his hands through his hair letting the sea brine run out the last of the sweat and blood. He slowly comes to realize the amount of caked blood. He almost feels like he is starting to wake up. He slowly stands pulling on his wet but clean shirt, and leaves the water grabbing his armor and bundles from the sand as he goes. He makes his way for the shacks hunting up Luther's.

Do you two have a list of the things you would like to swap out? I will assume the extra clothing and maybe a few other things?

Re: Everyday Life in Beachtown
Unfortunately, clothes are about all Luther has to offer.
Luther takes Bonnie's gift of smoked sausage, gnawing on it as he discusses lonas and gifts of clothes with Monocar. Suddenly, he pauses and turns toward the beach. He finds one of the firepits where the zombie corpses were burnt and begins stirring the ashes and charcoal with a convenient stick. He's looking for anything that might indicate that the zombies were actually the logging crew.
Sorry- I literally JUST remembered this!

Re: Everyday Life in Beachtown
Luther's close brush with death has fogged his memory of the groups less than welcoming arrival to the island. Digging through the ashes, he starts to recall that the bodies of the zombies looked very old and skeletal, not fresh like one of the unaccounted for loggers might look.

Re: Everyday Life in Beachtown
I was actually concerned that somebody had used an illusion to disguise their appearance.
As Luther stirs and pokes the ashes, he takes another look at the path toward the river. He realizes just how well-worn it is, and decides that his corduroy road idea would add little to it.
Using his camp axe, he cuts some branches and saplings and begins weaving a fish trap.

Finds Luthar after his business is completed in the Hi-Lo. He is munching on one of his carefully guarded sausages and carrying a brand new woodcutters axe.

Re: Everyday Life in Beachtown
Luther and Monocar wander around the clearing for a time, Luther cuts down many slender branches as they explore. They scope out the areas that might be the next best places to continue clearing the jungle and making room for more farming.
Both of the woodsmen agree that Raythan was correct when deciding to clear out more trees to the east, towards the river. Monocar starts marking trees while Luther begins weaving the branches he cut into a large fish trap, showing off another of his many talents in taming the many wild places of the Oerth.
Monocar spots the clearing that Owen was clearing for Raythan, though it looks as though the work on his house has stopped for some reason.

Monocar
Draws a rough map and explains his idea of cutting and clearing to Luther.
Monocar will proceed this way. Red to orange to yellow to purple clearing anything not fruit producing. So palms and banana type trees are safe except he will be thining them out for cultivating. So if there is a big cluster he will pick the healthiest 1:4 and take out the rest.
He will also purposfully leave about 1:3 of healthy saplings regardless of type of tree so there is still future growth. He hopes others will join him over time in making the area more usable and safe.
He will also keep an eye out for wildlife that might be eatable that gets flushed out and inform hunter types of what he sees. The overall goal is widening the way between town and the river for future use.
He will also start looking to sell building materiels and keeping some for himself too. There is a good chance he will be giving some out to those in need too. Time to develope Beachtown and help those that live there.
He looks up. "Well, what do you think?"

Re: Everyday Life in Beachtown
Raythan goes out to check on his private building to the east of town. He is happy to see that the clearing has been finished and there are small piles of building logs laying all around the area. The foundation work on his new home has been started, but for some reason, he finds that the work there has since completely stopped.
After spending a bit of time looking around, the half-elf finds no sign of Owen anywhere. He does find the mans bloodied ax lying on the ground nearby to where he was last working, but there is no indication as to what has happened to him.
After looking around some more, Raythan finds a patch of bloody fur lying on the ground near the ax with a few drops of dried blood next to it on the ground.
