Fulp whispers...
This time I picked up one of these bows they were using against us. I figure if I aim in the middle, I might hit one of them. No sense not trying to lessen their numbers before we move forward., huh?

"I'd really hoped they'd fled." Sorsha whispers gripping her knives in a throwing position. "But I'm ready."

Sparrow whispers.

I still have a couple of shots of my kobold killer left. If we can get them all to bunch up in an area that I can breath it on them, I think it would take out that whole group.

He waits to hear the consensus from the group on what to do next.

Ciar whispers, "I'm wondering if that barricade might be blocking the passage to the balcony area..."

OOC: Dave, was Ciar able to determine from which side of the passage the barricade was erected? If that wasn't noted, then he will go back and look at it...

Ciar recalls that the previously passed barricade appears to have been constructed from the side of the main passageway; likely, he speculates, in an attempt to possibly keep something -- the source of the scurrying and scratching sounds -- on the other side contained.

As for the situation in front of the group, the ledge overlooking the narrow walkway is approximately 3- or 4-feet from the ceiling, or 8- or 9-feet from the surface of the walkway. It is lined with stone "teeth," or crenelations, staggered at intervals of less than a foot apart, allowing, you suspect, the kobold defender a position to fight or fire through while maintaining excellent cover.

OOC: Was Ciar able to tell if the crenelations continued around to squares 16, 22, 23? Or is he unable to tell that from his angle? And then can he tell if the kobolds can see him if he were in the 10' deep pit below the walkway (right side)? Or can they only see him if he is walking across the walkway?

It's not easy to see, but the crenelations are limited to the westernmost and northernmost sides (weakly outlined in red). The area to the south, where the group currently is positioned, is completely hidden from the ledge. So, from the hidden image below, the crenelation is found on the right-hand side of cells 9-12, and the bottom of cell 16)

It should be possible to sneak into the easternmost pit, to the right of the walkway, which leads up to the ledge area. However, it might be possible to be detected if factors (e.g. light, noise, etc...) draw attention to your positioning. That said, while possible, the kobolds would literally need to stick their necks out in order to see down below... and may or may not be willing to risk that exposure.

Ciar tells the others of his plan to sneak down through the right pit and see if it is possible to flank them. He mentions if any of them sticks their heads out that they are fair game to shoot...

Then he passes the Everbright torch back to Fulp and quietly slips into the pit and makes his way to the other side.

Fulp fumbles with the torch, trying to figure out how to hold it and aim the bow he just picked up. He looks around for someone to hand it to. (Sorsha, maybe?)

He then attempts to nock an arrow and aim toward the ledge, awaiting any kobolds who might stick their neck out.

Sparrow also readies his bow for target practice.

Careful Ciar. You don't know what might be hiding down in that pit.

Sorsha helps fulp with the lantern and whispers "Be ready. If they spot him they may risk taking a peak."

Ciar details his plan and passes the everlit torch to Fulp who, because he's now experimenting with a bow, turns and passes it to Sorsha. "Careful, Ciar, you don't know what might be hiding down in that pit," Sparrow cautions while readying his own short bow. The halfling, undeterred, creeps to the edge of the eastern pit and begins analyzing it for the best way to enter it without being noticed.

With those with ranged weapons providing cover, the halfling effortlessly scampers down into the pit below and begins to make his way across the bottom of the pit. The group continues as Ciar reaches the other end of the pit safely and debates his next course of action.

The kobolds, apparently oblivious to the creeping halfling below, do not present themselves and remain hidden on the ledge overhead.

Sparrow turns to those behind him and shrugs.

I guess I'm next.

When he sees Ciar is safely out of the pit, he will take his turn to cross, mimicking the halflings movements as closely as possible.

Sparrow, who's next in line, watches as Ciar slowly, but successfully crosses the pit and climb out of the pit on the opposite side. The halfling disappears out of view to the right, and the dark-skinned warrior begins to examine the drop into the pit looking for his best point of entry, when Ciar pops back into view. The halfling holds up his hand, palm facing the group, and motions for Sparrow to stay put for a moment.

Sparrow remains waiting at the edge of the pit when he witnesses Ciar, on the opposite side, begin to climb back down into the pit and return towards the group. Several careful minutes later, the halfling successfully ascends the pit face and rejoins the group. He and Sparrow, along with the rest, back up a few feet, away from the pit and kobold ledge looming overhead, so they can discuss the halfling's findings and next course of action.

"Alright..." the halfling whispers to the others, "There's nothing but another hole and a rope on the other side. There ain't no way to get to those buggers up in the balcony, neither. I'm still wondering if that blocked off passage back there leads up to the balcony. If we can make room in the barricade, I can sneak in there and find out... "

He waits to see what the others think before taking any further action.
