So... two things... first, we're using the acks rules, not the 1e (?) rules. You would succeed on a find trap roll on a throw of 13+). Second, these kinds of rolls would be (secretly) handled by the gm in most games, as you can't know if your not finding something is the result of failure or the result of there not being a trap.

Erico does not notice any signs of mechanical traps, but his careful inspection of the statues reveals that there seems to be more than just char in the bowl, though whether it's just detritus or something interesting is hard to tell.

The upper rim of the bowl is approximately at eye level, so it is possible to see into it. There is a bunch of gunk, covered in black soot. There is no sign of twigs or leaves or anything (this would have been long since dissolved by the slime) but there does seem to be a fist shaped "lump" in the center of the bowl, covered in the gunk left over from burning the slime.

Phoebe will empty out one of her flasks of oil and try to fill it with the green slime gunk. Who knows, maybe a mage will want it at some point.

Phoebe takes some of the slime residue from the bowl with no difficulty.

Erico sees that the fist-sized object is in the center of the bowl, and easily reachable, now that he's got a boost from Ludwig. It is disk shaped, like a very large coin. From here, it looks sort of like a small sundial, but it has a block of crystal on it instead of a gnomon.

Lucius will attempt to climb onto of the blocks around the camp to keep watch. He'll keep tabs on his comrades around the statue.

Erico sees no sign of traps, so he takes the object. A bit of cleaning reveals that it consists of a 5 inch diamter metal disk with marks around the edges, sort of like a sundial. Mounted in the center is a wedge of a whitish crystal, about 3 inches across. It's not entirely obvious what it does, if anything, but it doesn't seem to have any moving parts.

Lucius gets a high vantage point and scans the area for trouble. He doesn't any obvious threats, though he does see that across the river, near the other end of the bridge, there is another set of statues. He also notes that a good diatance upriver (maybe 5 miles or so) there is a building by the water, or possibly a settlement.

Well, Erico doesn't really know what it is, but it may be possible to figure it out. The crystal is transparent and colorless, but he sees two images of things when looking through it.

Any feelings on what you guys would like to do, next? I've marked up the trail, so far... The orange is the hobgoblin territory, and the bridge and house are marked, as well.

Do the statues all look the same? If so, does there appear to be a matching crystal in the other set of statues?

As for future plans, Lucius is all for making camp and then investigating the building/settlement the next day. Maybe there will be a good place to cross near that place upriver.

The other statues are on the other side of the river, and they are pretty far away to see that, but it does seem to consist of two statues holding a bowl, so... Maybe?

It's getting dark, and it seems unlikely that you would make it without a forced march. Lucius points out the campsite he's scouted, and you settle in for the night. The Amazon slaves, usually quite standoffish with the men, seem to be thawing somewhat, and you notice a few smiles passing between them and members of Damiane's witchguard as the camp is set up.

The night passes uneventfully, and you continue your trek upriver. The river has turned to the west here, so you are moving more or less in your original direction, now. You continue upriver, and eventually come to a spot, across the river from what seems to be more of a fur trader'scamp than a proper village, located on the opposite side of the river. You see that the encampment consists of lean-tos and tents, with a central firepit. A few men were working in the camp, but now they seem to be moving quickly with purpose.
