Korea vs Algeria (didn't know which game it would be when I first applied) and another in the first knockout stage, G1 vs H2 (most likely Germany or Portugal vs Russia or Belgium).
I won't be in country for the final, however. Will probably watch it from a pub in London, I'll be catching one of the Python shows at the O2 on July 16.

That's Fine, Saalaria. I just went off of what was on character sheets at the time, so if you changed it since then that's probably why the discrepancy. Or I just plain goofed.

Yes, that's fine, go ahead and roll the CLWs, tell me who gets what, and I'll adjust HP accordingly. I keep forgetting that Og is a ranger/cleric and not just a ranger...zebediah wrote:If I'm not mistaken Ogirdor did not cast any spell during the day before we camped in the burial site. If that's ok with you Ragbone I would have him casting CLW on those who are injured before we slept.

Re: OCC Thread
We can retcon that in, no prob, Ston. Since Andrin and Malone are both down 1 hp, no need to roll even. Just decide which one gets a hp and I'll add it.Stonjuz wrote:yea, thnkx

And for the future, if you want to use a CLW, just include the roll with the action and the target and I'll apply to the HP tally. That's all up to you guys when you make camp or whenever you cast a spell.
In other news, danged weather!

I don't know exactly what the Hobby Shop Dungeon is. It was the only 1e game I could get into, as at the time registration started I was SWAMPED with work. Anyway, there's a Gygax running it, so I figure it'll be a life experience if nothing else.Grognardsw wrote:I wish I could go to Garycon, and Gencon for that matter, unfortunately family/work prevents it. I'd like to hear how it goes, what is that dungeon of Ernie's? The only con I can get to is my local one Totalcon in MA. They have an OSR track and I got into Frank Metzner And Tim Kask games which were fun. Kask is so gleeful after all these years about killing characters. His DM screen says "TPK World Tour 2014." We playtested some Mayan adventure that Eldritch may publish. Also played some Astonishing Swordsmen & Sorcerers which is great on setting, and DCC Tales from the Fallen Empire with its author Jim Carpio.
Last year I didn't get signed up for anything, but played in a pickup DCC game run by the artist who did all the covers, Doug Kovaks, I believe. As an artist myself, this was pretty cool. I played a Dwarf sized human wearing a Viking style hat with tiny horns. (0 level) Really enjoyed the game/setting, though we never managed to get into combat or roll any dice. I was hoping to get into another DCC game this year - we'll see how it goes. Would love to try AS&S, too.

Sure. Ernie Gygax was working for some time in the TSR Dungeon Hobby Shop, which was basically the hobby shop owned by TSR occupying the ground level of the Hotel Clair on the corner of Main Street in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin (where the headquarters of TSR were located then). Here's a shot of the Hotel Clair:

The Dungeon Hobby Shop was where you see the "chocolates" shop on this pic. The editors for TSR had their offices upstairs, if I remember correctly.
In any case. Ernie decided to run games in the store. Terry Kuntz (brother of Rob Kuntz, one of the original players of the game as well, who worked at the store too at the time) had done some unkeyed maps (the first levels of the dungeon, the big map that Melan linked having been drawn by Ernie himself) for a dungeon he never ran. Not having done anything with it, he gave the maps to Ernie who then populated, keyed the whole thing and basically came up with what became the "Hobby Shop Dungeon".
The Dungeon was played in a variety of venues, starting with the Dungeon Hobby Shop in 1977/78. At the time lots of sailors on the Great Lakes came to buy games at the store, so many gamers played through it at some point or other. People like E. Gary Gygax, Rob Kuntz and other friends and TSR alumni would also explore its depths.
The Dungeon then was used in Margaret Weis's store after the TSR years, if I remember correctly (can't remember the name of store), in home games, in conventions, and on and on, up to this day. Hundreds of players have explored it. More than a thousand, as Ernie puts it.

That map. That is Ernie's work. It is a thing of beauty. That picture really doesn't do it justice. Ernie sent me some surviving copies for safe-keeping after his apartment's fire (they still smell like smoke; he could grab them in extremis before rushing out the door). The map's been badly damaged over the years, but you can still read a lot of stuff on it. It will be an epic challenge to work on it, but we're not quite there yet. I'm both excited and afraid at the prospect....

Re: OCC Thread
Well now I'm all excited about it. Thanks for the info.
I'm a bit intimidated to play in this game - not sure my gaming skills are up to par - but I figured what the hell. Once is the number of times that one lives.

If one can bring enough coin, the auction is also something not to be missed. And bring plenty of stuff to have the old guard autograph for you (if you like that sort of thing), they are all very eager to make guests feel wanted.
I love this convention, but i cant make it this year......and this thread just keeps reminding me.
ALSO, try to get there on Wedns nite, for the pre con activities, beer & pizza & such......you wont regret it.

I just picked up a near mint copy of Fight in the Skies, which I'll try to get signed by Mike Carr. (And hopefully play in his game Saturday) Last year I got Jeff Easley to sign my World of Greyhawk Box set I've had since I was a kid. Pretty sweet.
