Trawets looks at the door and states That door doesn't look to have been used in a while. I think we need to go down. We are still following those three toed creatures. We may be heading toward their lair.

Reposting this to make sure everyone in here sees it.

Kobolds. All of you have heard of Kobolds as mythical creatures populating scary stories told to little children to keep them from running wild in the woods. Some of you know such creatures do exist and exist specifically here in the Western Lands.

So, everyone in the Daisy's Little Night Business may roll a d6 and on 3+ will know enough about "things" to guess something like Kobolds made the prints in the tunnel. Now it might not be Kobolds, but they are a possibility. :)

Mode: Roleplaying, Exploration, Combat
Location: Tunnels Below Slateholm
Present: Trawets, Vurna, Daisy, Da(49)

Note:
Lights (candles, torches and lanterns...and spells) last an hour. The number in () is the number of minutes left for that light and the position is who is carrying that light. An Exploration Turn is 10 minutes. A Combat Round is 1 minute. Both these figures are generalizations/approximations to make game play easier to track.

Exploration Turn 2

The party stops at the head of the stairs. Da goes over to the barred door and says, "Just give me a minute to see what it looks like."

Trawets looks at the door and states "That door doesn't look to have been used in a while. I think we need to go down. We are still following those three toed creatures. We may be heading toward their lair."

The door is made of iron and was once covered in some sort of leather, but that has mostly rotted away, showing the iron plates held together with rivets beneath. The iron of the door is covered with rust and flakes have come off leaving it pitted, but it is still quite solid. The iron bar across it is also old, rusty and pitted unlike the door the bar looks as if it could be broken with the smash from a hammer. The floor in front of the door is dust covered with a few of the claw marks, but not many and they are partly filled with dust, so it hasn't been approached recently...maybe weeks ago, maybe longer.

Trawet is correct that the most recent prints and the drag marks go down/up the stairs.

While Da is busy with the door, Daisy examines the wall on the eastern side and finds nothing untoward about the solid wall musing, "That way leads to the bay, I think? The door would lead toward the North District in the direction of the Wizard's Tower or maybe Madeera's Shrine, maybe."

Vurna adds softly, "Those creatures will probably see our light well before we reach them, but let's try to keep our voices down all the same. After Da examines this old door, we'll continue."

End of Turn 2

Do you try to force the door open, proceed down the stairs, or something else?/ooc]

While exploring behind the door sounds fun, our job takes us down the steps. Besides that bar is on this side means it is meant to keep people from coming this way. I say we go forward.

Kob Knowledge! [1d6] = 4 3+ she knows something

"Ah!" Out of nowhere Vurna exclaims. "The reptile feet, I think it could be something I heard of after I came to the Northlands. You call them kobalt... something like this?"

Vurna purses her lips. "But don't these stairs go toward the North District too? Again, if the tunnels go a long way, I don't think I want to end up in thieves' territory.

Oh and by the way..."
she smiles winsomely at Daisy, "would you mind switching places with me in the order? I'm probably no better than Trawerts in a test of steel."

Exploration Turn 3

"Ah!" Out of nowhere Vurna exclaims. "The reptile feet, I think it could be something I heard of after I came to the Northlands. You call them kobalt... something like this?"

Trawets says, "While exploring behind the door sounds fun, our job takes us down the steps. Besides that bar is on this side means it is meant to keep people from coming this way. I say we go forward."

Da says, "Best to keep following the most recent tracks. Kobalts or whatever they are."

Vurna purses her lips. "But don't these stairs go toward the North District too? Again, if the tunnels go a long way, I don't think I want to end up in thieves' territory."

"Oh and by the way..." she smiles winsomely at Daisy, "would you mind switching places with me in the order? I'm probably no better than Trawerts in a test of steel."

Daisy nods, "Yeah, down the stairs, cautiously. And sure, swap places, with me Vurna. I plan to run for it if things get really hot anyway, as should we all!"

And so reforming into a single file the little party starts down the stairs...

Still counting, Daisy counts 14 more steps whispering, "That's 56, um, about 130 feet north from the warehouse at this point, so we're just past the Shrine to Madeera, I think, and the North District would be above us."
Trawets stops at the bottom of the stairs as the corridor widens here and there are two paths that you could take.

You see another door to your right, this one has been opened and its iron door is on the floor beside the opening. There is a path in the dust leading through that door opening.

Ahead the corridor continues and you can barely see where another set of stairs down begin at the edge of the torch's light. You can't be sure, but it looks like the stairs up ahead are cattycornered angling to the northwest. The drag marks and more of the 3 clawed tracks lead toward the stairs up head.

In the south west corner of the room there is the remains of a wooden crate. It has been smashed open and pieces of wood lie scattered about.

Otherwise this room is bare of any features.

The tracks that go through this door are older, but by only a few weeks at most. Da thinks there are fewer of the claw mark tracks coming out than going in and those coming out appear to have been running.

Da holds the torch up so they can both see through the doorway and can barely make out what is in the room for all the spider webs. Through the webs you see a room with the splintered and rotted remains of wooden boxes and barrels. On the far wall you can see another doorway.

The door on the far wall is hanging from it's hinges and you can see what looks like a corridor leading further west also choked with spiderwebs. There are no sounds or movement from the room or from what you can see of the corridor leading further west.

After Da and Vurna peer through the side door, we're ready to continue following the drag marks down the next staircase.

You hear Daisy speak from behind you, "Did you find anything interesting over there?"

After you relate what you saw Daisy asks, "So, go west and explore that way, or follow the drag marks further down?"

Trawets, is your character sheet on the forum somewhere? Before I posted, I wanted to peek at his STR to see if he might look to Vurna like a strong/burly type. I didn't want to presume he's the stereotypical, pale, scrawny wizard in a robe. 😊

Exploration Turn 5

Daisy asks, "So, go west and explore that way, or follow the drag marks further down?"

Trawets nods, "Those are the choices. The one related to our job is following the drag marks, though I definitely thinks this whole place needs a good explore."

Da says, "I think there might be a spider or more than one in here somewhere. Looks like the little claw footed things ran out of here pretty fast and there are lots of spider webs in here. Help me get this door shut and secured from this side again."

Da will work on getting the door shut and secured best he can.

Vurna looks from the dwarf to the iron door on the ground, then her glance takes in the rest of the party − a halfling and a mage. "Good idea... erm, that looks quite heavy, Da, but I will try to help you lift it."

Vurna isn't strong, but her assistance doesn't hurt. Da lifts the heavy door grunting and Vurna feeling her assistance isn't really needed for this after all. Picks up the iron bar that had secured this door and drops it into place after Da stands the door back up. The hinges on the door are pried open but the iron bar goes from one side to the other of the door and into iron brackets attached to the stone walls on either side, so it should be pretty securely shut now. Why did the hinges have to be pried off? Maybe it was still stuck shut after the bar had been removed.

"That's the best we can do for now." says Daisy about the door, "And I don't think we want to face spiders, they aren't the ones stealing the goods. So onward, down the stairs!"

At the bottom of the stairs you find the corridor to have turned left, toward the west, but only a short walk that way stops you as the ceiling has collapsed blocking any movement further along the corridor.

Trawets sees a small tunnel has been opened in the right side of the corridor just before the rubble that sealed the corridor shut. The tunnel heads north. The tunnel is about 5 feet high and a bit less wide than that and roughly cut from earth. The claw marks and drag marks go into this dark tunnel.

Do you follow them?
