Honor or Death (Bushido) Inviting 1-2 new players
Re: Honor or Death (FGU Bushido)
Sure. And if they come from the samurai caste, they'll have kenjutsu regardless.

Re: Honor or Death (FGU Bushido)
Interesting exercise, researching Sohei and then building the character. I might want to go that route, after you develop the class.
Bushido rules-wise, there's some clear places you can tweak to find the warrior-monk flavor you're looking for. Once you decide what that flavor should be, the biggest thing is to tweak the bonus skills. Bushi don't have access to monk-like skills and that has a lot of cascading ramifications. I would recommend swapping 1:1 for skills that fit your desired theme. The other items are in initial skills (Bushi choose from a fixed list, which could be adjusted to fit a temple theme, including Theology and Kenji as Enoch mentions above), Ki powers (do you want them to have straight Bushi, or do you want a warrior-monk to adopt some fusion with Budoka or Gakusho?), and honor (Gakusho swap initial On for 20 due to temple service, if you mirror something similar.)

Re: Honor or Death (FGU Bushido)
Do you still have room? I'd like to play.
Re: Honor or Death (FGU Bushido)
Great. Do you need to approve me for the thread? And should I just go ahead and generate a character?
Re: Honor or Death (FGU Bushido)
I'm trying to figure out how to approve everyone for the thread. But go ahead and generate a character if you're ready.

Inviting 1-2 new players who can post 2-3 times per week, and are interested in learning a pretty complicated OSR game. We're a friendly crew, we'll tutor as we go along.

Re: [Open] Honor or Death (FGU Bushido)
Open for 1-2 new players. We have a good crew who will tutor new players on how to get into this OSR samurai game.

About 10 months in and we're still going strong. Open to a couple of more players.

Re: [Open] Honor or Death (FGU Bushido)
Are there still spots open in this. I have a yen to lace on my Dou and defend the honor of my clan. (or something suitably Japanese anyway). I have Bushido Book 1, is that sufficient on the rules side?
Re: [Open] Honor or Death (FGU Bushido)
Yep, we've got spots open. Good timing too, because the PCs just finished some downtime studying and training and are getting ready to hit the road again. Book 1 is sufficient, but it needs to be the Fantasy Games Unlimited edition (not the Phoenix Games one or the earlier one). Book 2 is GM stuff. Here are the game threads: viewforum.php?f=1094 Say hello in the OOC thread and we'll help you get started.

Re: Honor or Death (Bushido) - Open to 1-2 new players
Still going after four years! Now starting a new campaign: "Crows." In which the adventurers leave off from the world of the city and village and into the deep mountains... in search of a band of mystical creatures from antiques ages of old Nippon....
Bushido is a crunchy game with sophisticated character design and tactical combat systems. Which makes it quite challenging and intriguing. If you don't know the system, GM and the players are happy to coach throughout. We have a nifty Excel sheets that calculates PCs stats, encumbrance and about anything else that a player might need to know and refer to along the way. All are welcome!

Interested, perhaps we could talk about a character design idea?
Re: Honor or Death (Bushido) Inviting 1-2 new players
Excellent! The character classes are:
Bushi (samurai or ronin warrior)
Budoka (unarmed martial arts expert)
Gakusho (priest (like a D&D cleric))
Shugenja (magic user)
Ninja
All PCs are human.
Most of the PCs are members of a secretive ninja clan. But they're not all ninja, one is a shugenja. Your first decision would be whether to be a part of the clan or roll on a Birth Table for your caste and rank within it. Those affect your starting cash and equipment. Samurai is the highest rank and eta (untouchables) the lowest. The ninja clan is eta.
Let's discuss in the game thread. Welcome Ateno!
