Sorry, I've really neglected this game for weeks. Had some RF things come up (close relative health emergency, work in an industry heavily impacted by the current Presidential Administration's policies). And I've burned a lot of my PBP time on my Boot Hill game. And it seems that we've lost subaltari as a kind of impetus for forming up a crew.

Next up:
a) Help Grog level up Jinsei.
b) RP Kaida leveling up.
c) Frank to chargen his gakusho.

The first stage of an adventure is ready to go. The crunchiness of a) is kind of a task that I need to carve out some time for. I kind of forgot how to do it and have to dig into the rules. Any thoughts on refresher/brain job for that would be welcome.

Leveling and downtime was simpler than I remembered. I put a walk through in spoiler tags on my post. that might help as a refresher.

The biggest thing for Jemmus is determining the quality and skill level of the sword teacher and the Stealth teacher Grg found in the village.

Unfortunately, the Kumo clan doesn't excel at the kenjutsu skill. Jinsei will study with these modifiers:
-Teacher (not of superior skill)
-Private instruction.

Kaida will study with these modifiers:
-Superior teacher
-Another neophyte of the clan will join in the instruction. Kaida will know him well, having grown up with him in The Village. No private instruction bonus.

Rex's PC (if Rex resumes playing after the restart).
-TBD

ffilz's gakusho:
-Superior teacher
-No other student, so the private instruction bonus applies.

I intend to keep playing, I just haven't had the motivation to dig my character out and try to figure out what I need to do.

We already finished Kaida, I think? You rolled well and she's being taught by a dragon in the kakuri-yo. Just RPing for fun from there.

I see that Jinsei's sheet has been updated to Level 2. I completely trust the fine sheet to accurately take care of that interrelated mathematical values operation.

-A katana (kenjutsu) teacher in The Village will be Jinsei's old one, and not a Superior one adding bonuses to his weekly learning. Or Jinsei could go looking for a teacher in Kofu, or even among the mountain tengu kenjutsu bird-men the nakama were told of on their return to The Village. Trying to do so might mean temporarily separating from the nakama, or going with another member interested in also traveling to the destination, for their own purposes. Kofu is a city and a relative regional metropolis. It's known that there are virtual masters of every kind of Way there. The tengu aerie/lair-- Well, they're crows who are partly formed like humans, who love to use katana and wakizashi-- and who are very good at it, in their hopping bird-like way. (

-The stealth (ninjutsu) teacher in The Village will be Superior, because they have a higher score in the skill than he does. It's possible that Jinsei will get the solo student bonus, depending what some NPCs and PCs do. He easily finds out in the small village that two other young clan members have been awarded training time, and are considering studying with the ninjutsu sensei. He can consider trying to dissuade or divert the NPCs, via successful Wit saving throws. (He could argue that another skill should apply instead). But with failures, perhaps with some harm to his reputation within the isolated and close-knit hermit community for his cajolery.

A week in Nippon is 10 days. So the month the elders gave the nakama for training is three weeks. We'll use Kaida's nice model of her training to walk through Jinsei's training. Reminder that ffilz's gakusho starts at 2nd level, and Fuma can easily update to 2nd level via the wondrous character sheet.

Minoru and Fuma, the first step is to level up to 2. Then we'll apply your bonuses.

While the bird-men are intriguing, I’ll go with The Village teacher so the party isn’t split.

I finally got a space of time to devote to this game. Sorry for the long delay. Whoever may still be interested, here's the map for what's next.
Kaida to revise her training (in the kakuri-yo).
GM to train up Jinsei, based on his stated skills training plan (kenjutsu swordsmanship and ninjutsu stealth). Grog has already leveled Jinsei to Level 2.
Fuma to state the skills he wants to train in. Then for GM to level and train him up. Or for Rex to level him up based on the Excel char sheet and for GM to train him up. Here's Marullus' guide to the easy use of the artfully designed char sheet. viewtopic.php?p=741901#p741901
Frank to chardev his 2nd level gakusho (if that's what he goes with) and state his one-month (3 weeks) training plan.
