Rods of the Star Kings
• zapper: 1 Strain, DS 12.
• carbine: 2 Strain, DS 10.
• blaster: 3 Strain, DS 8.

For each of these, the roll is +Erudite+Skulker. On a HIT, the target is out of action.

DM makes the roll in secret when you want to use it. Here is why:
Each of these fails on doubles miss. E.g., if you're using a blaster and DM rolls a total of 7 with the dice showing ⚁⚁, then the blaster fails.
You don't know it has failed until the next time you go to use it and it doesn't work when you hit the trigger.
Additionally, if the DM rolls DOUBLES when you try to use a failed Rod, then it explodes, causing Strain = total of dice.

Even after a Rod has failed, if it doesn't explode, it can be used as a melee weapon with +add = Strain. So a blaster becomes a very effective club.

Is anyone on Azag able to work with or repair Star King technology or is it totally beyond understanding? I'm just trying to dial in how rare/valuable/irreplaceable this kind of stuff is.

There may be a few madfolk researchers who are involved in tinkering with Star King tech. The tendencies to explode or irradiate tinkerers make this a dangerous proposition …
Edit to add: a few people will literally try to kill you to get this thing. Does that help explicate its value?

Yeah, that gives me a sense of what we're dealing with.
