Durrant, Jacupo & Rogger can each take out one of those sleeping guards. A merciless slaying but necessary given the danger they might pose should they awake.
This is done.
Got it! In that case Edel will be waiting to see how Elwita reacts to Blodgett, and then hopefully moving with the others away from the intersection.
Guess those are my only 'actions' for this round.
If the others are milling about, and not doing anything in particular he will ask Olleg or Elwita to accompany him in taking a look slightly further ahead down the tunnel. Just a peek, and no further than that first bend.

Tunnels: intersection.

The group stand on guard at the junction of the two passages.

The NW-SE passage is more than 150'ft long. At its southern end, it opens into the guarded Aspis Cave with a giant ant tunnel opening a few yards before it on the left. The injured Giant Weasel retreated this way and has not returned. No Aspis warrior-drones are drawn to come and investigate the conflict that has taken place with you. The passage is dark and silent that way and as far as you know, there are no other exits bar returning through the Aspis territory.

The northern end of the passage has been webbed by Edel's spell. Caught in the web are two Orc guards and for this reason alone, the Orc reinforcements behind are trying to physically cut through the web strands as quickly burning them with open flames will surely burn their comrades too.

At the junction are the corpses of the three slain Orc guards, (one a Sgt ranked guard) and the carcasses of the Giant Weasel adult and the juvenile weasel.

I mentioned a bloody stain on the wall here, (at waist height or head height to a Halfling) and pointing this out to Blodgett for comments, he will say, "A Halfling I saw running through the passage here, pursued by the guards. He was injured severely and must have been taken or slain. I sneaked behind to aid him and came upon the Orc I slew in the tunnel."

He says the north end of the passage goes towards a Slave Market area, patrolled rigourously by well armed guards and Slaver officials. "If your colleague was captured, they will either execute him or sell him to foreign bidders if he has any kind of ransom value or worth."

The sound of the guards cutting through web strands and summoning help only substantiates his assessment.

The adjoining passage curves northeast and forks after about 100'ft with another slim passage that turns to the left. It is towards this second passage that Blodgett urges the group to retreat, reiterating what he said before to Edel,
"There is a way up into a crypt. It may be safer there, these tunnels bleed Orcs and others have stirred the hornets nest."
.

Mortar joins in on the info-swap.

"Then you are Blodgett, I presume? We were kinda looking for you and your friends in here." He acknowledges his name and says he and his friends were scattered, the mission a failure. (I will add his meeting with Elwita at the bottom.)

"We struck a deal for passage with the Aspis creatures, if that should change your mind." His knowledge of these creatures is very limited. Like yourselves, never encountering their like before. He says he tried to sneak that way but was rebuffed and says that the Aspis work in league with the Slavers by providing additional security and operatives in the Slave Pens. He doesn't know much about their culture or lifestyle beyond them being 'fanatically loyal' to a Queen figure and being master swordsmen. He asks, "Negotiated safe passage? Perhaps we can go through there again?" intrigued that you could manage that.

"What can you tell us about this path you suggest? The ladder leading up has been broken off, you understand. Why do you suggest we head that way?" I think there is a bit of confusion here regarding passages. I am fine with you sharing that 'beyond the Aspis Cave is another caves with storage pits and a ladder leading up to a ceiling trapdoor that supposedly opens to a slave audience chamber. This ladder is broken in half'.

The path he suggests the group flee as he feels the mission fails and the guards are alerted, is through the adjoining passage and the next forked passage as explained above.

"Do you know where the others you came here with are currently?" No he does not. He says that after the Icon team entered the Temple complex, they were beset by a gang of undead who surprised ambushed them. The Icons were scattered, Ogre making a 'last stand' so others could flee. He remembers running through internal corridors and being chased by Orc temple guards into a cemetery where he hid for two days before exploring further to try and locate others.

"I am called Mortar, and this motley crew you see before you were sent in here to finish what you started. Savvy?"

He greets everyone in turn and finally comes face to face (or face to skinned face) with Elwita. He embraces her, grimacing at her misfortune, not having time to hear of her own testimony or discuss the fate of other Icons.

"They're cutting through!" interrupts Jacupo & Rogger who watch the relentless progress of the Orc guards chopping the web strands at the top of the passage. It pushes the need for definitive action to either fight it out here or retreat elsewhere in the tunnel system.

"Let's move as advised then" - Edel urged everyone.

Ready to quickly fall into the marching order (without Chagg this time :P) and move toward the stairs pointed out by Blodgett.

the dead Orcs had light crossbows, so you could take one from them and you have several javelins (one enchanted) marked on your sheet.

Brick will use one of the crossbows (same roll). I wanted to save the javelins since I am unlikely to be able to recover them in this situation.

Guessing they should take the advice, since this Blodgett has been inside these tunnels for much longer and should know his way around, Mortar agrees to follow.

Olleg, Dwarf

Still slightly dazed by the weasel's vicious attack, Olleg takes a few moments to recover, while the rest of the party searches the dead guards. As the party prepares to move again, Olleg steels himself and resumes his position at the head of the marching order, alongside Brick. Alarmed to hear that their ally is in danger, Olleg says to Blodgett, "That halfling you speak of is likely our ally Goran! We will have to search for him, in case he has been captured. For now though, lead on Master Halfling, we could use a place to recover."

Brick is securing your rearguard with a range attack, using a crossbow from the slain Orcs. Elwita will do likewise.

Tunnels: intersection

Brick & Elwita form a defensive rearguard, providing suppressive bolts that thud into one of the Orc guards still stuck in the diminishing web. He slumps lifeless in the web, dangling like a forlorn puppet. It gives a cautionary note to the Orc reinforcements who bunch up around the curve of the tunnel. Attempts are made to cut the web strands and create a gap for guards to file through, the bravest taking the challenge and rushing at the pair, polearm in hand whilst two other guards trade bolts which skitter down the tunnel. Brick & Elwita benefitting from the cover which the side passage entrance provides.

Olleg leads the way up the adjoining passage, following after the mysterious Halfling Icon Blodgett. The group step over the body of the slain Chagg, stabbed in the back and throat slit in precise assassin style.

At the fork in the passage, Blodgett shepherds the party to take the next adjoining passage while he guards the continuing passage, looking over his shoulder into the dark behind him. There is a rotten odour, of damp and sewage here that pervades the atmosphere, even soaking through any neckerchief masking across noses, obviously emanating from deeper in the passage ahead. The forked passage is slightly narrower, single file only. It leads to some steep staircases that are greasy and well worn, much like the 'slippery staircase' which descended by the Kennels. Footprints of both booted humanoids and animal claws mark recent travel in each direction. There are no other telltale sights or sounds, a simple choice to take to follow Blodgett's direction as the best way out.

"Go that way, it leads to a crypt. I can provide a distraction to try and convince the guards we went towards the sewers to escape." he says.

Jacupo & Rogger can assist with Olleg in scouting the way ahead. It leaves the three mages, Edel, Mortar, Durrant and clerics Vennar & Galadria to action waiting for the rearguard pair to catch up, keep going up to the crypt or take any other actions.

Edel

The wizard is not willing to waste a lot of time - they need to get out of sight, and fast. He still manages to steal a moment and ask Blodgett - "What is that terrible stench? Where does that passage lead to?" - nodding toward the northern tunnel.

Only wanting a short answer, but then ready to move ahead with Jacupo, Rogger and Olleg.

"A stores area, looted goods and merchandise. It is surrounded by open sewers to dissuade intruders. Your friends murdered guards there, two lie in the passage still. Hence the hue and cry to hunt them down."

Tunnels: intersections.

Orcs: light crossbow bolts [1d20]=2 [1d6+1]=2+1=3 [1d20]=12 [1d6+1]=4+1=5Elwita: light crossbow [1d20]=5 [1d6+1]=4+1=5Orc guard: Polearm [1d20]=8 [1d10]=1

Orc guards trigger more ill aimed bolts at the rearguard, Elwita snipes back, another poor targeting as both pairs fire and move to suppress the others. A single brave or foolhardy Orc guard rushes at Elwita, trying to strike her but he gets impaled by Brick who triggers a bolt a point-blank range, nailing him through the throat and pinning him to the tunnel support struts. "They have an Ogre". exclaims Elwita, who casts a worried glance up the passage as a hulking humanoid barges past the guards, tearing away every web strand and striding into the passage with vengeful purpose. There is no more time to delay and the pair retreat after the others.

Those others are at the fork in the adjoining passage, a heavy stench coming from straight ahead where 'sewers and stores' are. The other way offers cleaner air and Olleg bounds up the stairs at the end of this passage , sword in hand. The stairs are steep and narrow, ascending about forty feet before the last few steps narrow even more to just a few feet wide. A stone slab seems to cover the entrance. Olleg checks the masonry over and determines that that it is a stone heavyweight, loosely placed and he pushes with all his might to slide the stone coffer awat, for that is what it is; grating and scuffing the floor to open the way into the crypt.

The dwarf checks about before exiting the tunnel. The crypt is quiet, sunlight filtering inside from dusty stained glass windows. He exits and almost surprises himself. Two Orcs stand motionless in pose, unarmed and gawping as if strained in slow motion. Jacupo & Rogger file in behind Olleg and the three enter the crypt to make room for others coming behind.

Skill Check: [1d100]=28
Saving Throw: [1d20]=3Saving throws vs Spells (Paralyzation) Jacupo [1d20]=5 Rogger [1d20]=2

In entering the crypt, each of these become subject to the strange magical power which is in effect inside the crypt. A Paralyzation creeps into each of them as they suddenly succumb to the unseen enchantment. Very much like a Hold Person spell, the effect is to bind victims in motionless state, unable to move it speak but remain conscious of all that they can see or hear.

Durrant is next in line but stops suddenly, aware that those ahead of him have suddenly become very quiet and still. He pauses but hears no cry of pain or battle. Unnerved by the phenomenon, he invokes his Detect Magic to try and get a 'tell' on the situation, gesturing for those behind to wait. The mage calls up fellow mages, "Some enchantment fills the room, it snares everyone rather than targeting specific individuals. Those motionless are unhurt but bound?" is his initial assessment.

Edel & Mortar can file behind Durrant and consider what the issue is and how to solve it.

Vennar & Galadria wait for the mages in the passage, caught between the stairs to the crypt and the fork. They prepare weapons in case those pursuing catch up.

Blodgett remains by the fork intersection, guiding the last pair, Brick & Elwita in the crypt direction.
