If you want to initiate Combat then you need to roll an Initiative die.
How does that work in DCC/MCC? The reason I ask I had envisioned this as a surprise "attack" from an unexpected source. But if there's no such thing as "surprise," or it wouldn't work in this situation, I'm not sure it makes sense for Kurot to kick off a combat in which he may not even get to go first.

It's also weird that his freakish speed seems to do nothing to help with initiative, but such are rules systems.

It couldn't be a traditional suprise attack because they are focused on the group. However, since there probably wouldn't be any indication of an impending attack from Kurot's eyes, I will allow this to be a surprise attack.

That does seem weird. I went back and read the mutation. It states "but with no corresponding increase in reaction time or agility". As you said, such are rules.

Thanks. I'm assuming that surprise only covers one action, so he'll have to wait until the first non-surprise combat round for any further flashes?

Yes, that would make sense.

Sorry, all. R.L. has interfered and I have been unable to create the encounter map and get it posted.

Look for this post sometime during the day, this Saturday.

Hey Norjax.

Apologies, I've forgotten, what are the rules for moving and attacking? Do we get our full move?

I am holding my post on this. Want to try and make sure Barry is in short range for the sling.

Yeah, all my psionic powers are limited to 50', might need to get the rifle out.

Another question for Norjax, would activating the defensive belt be Silvestri's action for the round?

Thanks!

Do you have to move first, or can you take your action and then move?

Can Max attempt to invoke HOTAP? I know it isn’t by the book but I recall discussing with you him working with other patrons before.

Now that he knows of HOTAP and since he knows generally how to invoke patrons, it might be worth a try given how sideways this encounter is going.

Action then move is acceptable.

You may try, but how do you know HOTAP is an actual Patron?

He doesn’t. And yet the attempt seems completely in character for him. :)

I really do need to devolve Silvestri's dual brain to improve his movement because having that high intelligence doesn't make much difference, but having such a poor movement is crippling when the range of his psionic powers is so low.

We'll have to discuss a mechanism for intentionally reducing a Passive Mutation. It would have to either be the chance of a bad roll or somehow influenced by a Negative form of Radburn or Glowburn.

There would still be a risk of gaining a Defect.
