Tunnels:

Time: 9.20am
Illumination: dimmed lanterns Rogger
& Jacupo, torches held by charmed Orcs.

Teams Alpha & Bravo join back together. The Ogre has been slain and body dumped in the Ladder Cave. An echo of a beating drum was heard coming from the rear passage that leads deeper into Aspis territory. The three dug out pits each have a body in (the Ogre, Aspis & Esther). The trapdoor in the ceiling has not been inspected. The ladder is broken in two pieces.

Aspis Cave, the entrances are rigged with trip wires snares. There are five Aspis in their guard cave. Exits lead off this cave to 'a temple access', the sewer network, Orc guard posts and a slave market for reserved captives

Edel & Durrant have rescued, or rather traded for, the 'walking corpse' as the Aspis had declared her, the Icon Elwita who has been skinned from the waist up, from belly button to forehead, scalping her face and beard completely. Her bloody wounds congealed from drinking a healing potion, she is clearly traumatised is body and mind.

The whole group, Brick, Olleg, Mortar, Vennar, Jacupo, Rogger, Galadria, Edel & Durrant plus two charmed and held Orcs are in the passage at the foot of the Slippery Staircase.

Galadria, not known for her tact is visibly horrified by the sight of Elwita... "My lord Pelor have mercy on her soul" and then casting a worried glance at Edel and Durant "if we have chosen to keep her alive we must find some way of ending her suffering" then thinking out loud "I am not experienced in healing this level of injury but I will do what I can" Galadria will cast cure light wounds on Elwita

Durrant Winterflame - Human Magic User

Elwita asked to be given a warrior's death. We chose to save her; I hope we made the correct decision. Having said that, I don't know what to do with her. Do we take her with us, take her back...I don't know. What I do know, is that the orcs must die before the spells end. Looking around, he asks, You took care of the ogre, I see? Good job.
On November 2nd I will be participating in another 24 hour game of Dungeons & Dragons as part of Extra Life. This organization uses gaming to help raise money to donate to children's hospitals. Galadria to Durant "Gods work in mysterious ways my friend, I'm sure you chose well" then pensive "My lord Pelor demands balance though, I can fight in his name, but can't murder these two whilst they are under magic" then thinking out loud "I could busy myself mending that ladder?"

Vennar

"Before my magic ends, when you were talking to the orcs did you determine the tunnel that we needed to take? The orcs said that the aspis were guarding the right way. That leaves two options one past their kitchen and I and think that we can rule that out as they would not be letting the orcs through their kitchen every time. So it seems logical it would one of the two tunnels other tunnels in the first room."

Olleg, Dwarf

"Somebody should interrogate these orcs, once they can speak again. Killing them immediately only gains us their silence," says Olleg to the rest of the party. "I'm probably not the dwarf for that job, but I will start binding them." He then takes a coil of rope out of his backpack, moves forward, and starts to hogtie one of the orcs, while it is still held.

Edel

The elf nods in agreement - ”But do not tie up this one please - he points at the one he has charmed - ’Just remove his weapons, and make sure he is being watched at all times. I will try to convince him to join us. There is more information to be gleaned that way”

If some of the more martially inclined party members could make sure to keep the second orc under watch, that would be great. Not having him tied up might allow me to maintain the Charm on him.

"My only concern with that ladder is where it might lead" - Edel pondered Galadria's words - "We were told it leads to 'the reception', but that could mean a busy central area filled with orcs. We have already triggered an alarm once, I am not sure we can risk it again" - he offered - "If we can find a way to scout beyond that trapdoor, we might be certain whether it is a good idea to try that route or not. Or find it from my orc friend"

Olleg, Dwarf

Grunting his acknowledgement, Olleg finishes binding the first orc and moves on to the charmed orc. As requested, he only disarms the captive and then thoroughly searches the orc. Olleg is especially concerned with checking for other weapons or anything that could give the party more information about the slavers.

Having been listening to the discussion while going about his work, Olleg adds, "I don't much like the thought of going through that trap door without knowing what is on the other side. With the ladder broken, we at least know any guards would have to take a fall to come down that way."

While the others discuss what they will do, Mortar tries something risky that he hopes will aid them on their search.

"I......have an idea......"

Moving up the stairs, out of eyesight of their captives, he casts a spell upon himself that makes him look exactly like one of the orcs they have Held. Casting: Change Self

After doing so, he simply walks up the stairs and heads back to the room where they killed the sticky sweet plant monster, retrieving what he can of the thing so they have some bartering powers with the Aspis guards who seem to rule the lower levels.

Galadria

Listens and agrees with Edel and Oleg

Unless needed elsewhere, Galadria will follow Brick and lend some backup... Just in case caution is needed.

Tunnels:

The reunited group action a few decisions. One charmed Orc is disarmed, bound and gagged by Olleg. The Orc looks pleadingly at his 'friend' Durrant but the mage is nonchalant and uncaring towards his restraining.

Instead the mage can ponder upon how best to help the rescued and traumatized Elwita while Galadria ministers her last healing grace, +7hp. By random chance, the mage has the Calendar portrait of a sexy-playgirl lounge pin-up, which just happens to be 'a bearded dwarven wench'. The spell scripted upon the back of the calendar gave opportunity for the caster to take on the image of the portrait. By random chance too, the Icon hero located in the Aspis caves was a skinned Elwita, still alive despite her trauma through her exceptional constitution. Healing has buffed her physical body but her mind is still grievously wounded.

Change Self, the Illusionist spell allowing the caster to take on any form, proven as Mortar phases into an Orcish illusion. The spell on the Calendar was not the full spell however as it only recreated the dwarven babe portrait if cast in a similar way to reading a spell from a scroll.

One might wonder whether that restriction to limit that specific image is balanced by being able to replicate it upon any willing recipient instead of solely being a caster only spell? Durrant can risk casting it, losing the spell from the calendar and his opportunity to learn a cross class spell, but try and bend his arcane ability to cast it as an illusion upon the maimed Icon.

Vennar & Edel talk to the held but unrestrained Orc. Once the stationary magic wears off, the Orc can reply to the questions.

"One way leads to the Temple access. It is below the Sanctuary. The other tunnel goes towards the reserved Slave market but the passage was prone to recent collapse and is less used. We were tasked with helping a repair team as Kharnak can lift up the support beams and fallen boulders. The other passage goes to the Sewer Network and guard posts." he blabs, hoping repeating information will stall any execution.

Jacupo & Rogger continue to guard the passage, using the firebrands taken from the Orcs to sweep at the Giant Ants that scuttle out the dugout tunnel, dissuading any of them from coming too close to harass the party.

Meanwhile Mortar & Brick ascend the slippery staircase. The door to the Kennels on the right at the top of the stairs is closed, you walk by and pass the derelict room on the left, turning at the passage junction to head into the Sundew room. You note the Stable door is also closed but Brick's experience with Ear-Seeker grubs discourages further listening in to the Orc grooms activities.

You enter the Sundew room where the large sticky mass of carnivorous Drosera Capensis is splayed across the floor. Thinking how to transport it, the carcass can be hacked apart and tendrils coiled up, halves placed upon a couple of the barrel lids to carry or drag down to trade with the Aspis.

It sounds a good plan and the pair set about that but as they do, their task is interrupted by two Orcs and accompanying juvenile weasels that enter from an unexpected patrol of the corridor leading away from the Sundew room towards the Treacherous Beam room.

Orcs reactions: [1d100]=1 that's rolled as immediately hostile so let me describe how conflict happens.

The initial contact reaction is positive as the Orcs assume you part of the Temple community though they don't recognise you personally. However the Giant kits are much more inquisitive about these new guests and go to sniff them out. Despite the very striking visual illusion, the Gnome Mortar is not able to disguise his racial scent. The kit sniffing him becomes more agitated and frictious.

It alarms the two guards.

"Hey, didn't those lads in the Tool-shed say an half-blood and little rogue masquerading as a deathly haunt troubled them. Well here's an half-blood and a smaller fellow. Don't recognise either of them. Do you?"

"Nah, strangers to me and strangers to Trixy. She wants her teeth into that one."

"Best you pair put down that mess before you get yourselves into a deeper mess." they say, drawing broadswords to challenge you both.

Next Actions

Mortar & Brick in Sundew room.

Edel, Durrant, Galadria, Vennar, Olleg in the underground passage.

Mortar quickly steps on Bricks foot, their usual sign for his large friend to look down whenever he is about to cast a visual spell.

Tossing a pinch of colored sand at the orcs, Mortar brings forth a spray of color that should take care of this threat quickly and quietly. Casting: Color Spray

"Kill this damn varmint if you can Brick! I don't like the way it keeps sniffing on me."

Olleg, Dwarf

Olleg will continue to watch over the captive orcs, while others conduct the interrogation. Keeping his weapon sheathed for now, he stands apart from the others, scowling at the prisoners.
