With a voice amplified by mechanical distortion, the faceless being roars, “Halt! Consider yourselves prisoners of the great Hotap!”

Well, so much for hoping they aren't hostile, thinks Kurot.
He raises one eyebrow at being the only one the would-be captors haven't pointed a weapon at (or would, if he had eyebrows). He'd like to think that it's because androids have some special position of importance—but, no, it's probably just that "extracting this pith" means draining blood, and Kurot doesn't have any.
