002 Jenghe/Regina (1810) C799663–9 [056/1085]
A couple of hours earlier than Donovan and Flighty had calculated the sensors started showing flickers indicating that emergence was coming soon. After warning everyone the Bridge crew took their stations and waited.
Sure enough about 90 minutes prior to the estimated 168 hours the ship popped out of the void of Jump Space into Normal Space. Off to port a dark red sun cast light across the purple colored world hanging a few hundred thousand klicks ahead. Sensors fill with data instantaneously with ship traffic, radio from the surface of the planet, and both broadcast and narrow beamed streams of data coming from points of space further out from the main world. Library data correlates these signals as coming from planetary belts that circle Jenghe's star.
An automated beckon is repeating "Welcome to Jenghe/Regina/Spinward Marches/Imperium (1810)! The time is 1520.45 057 1085, Mark. Ships arriving please activate your Transponder and tune to Frequency 108 for instructions from Jenghe Port Control."
Scanning space around your ship you see transponder signals from 8 ships. Two are inbound to Jenghe Main, three are outbound and three appear to be heading toward the planetary belts, or perhaps one of the outer planets in the system. The two inbound ships report themselves as Fair Deal (200 ton Independent) and J-407A (1,000 ton Ling Standard). The three outbound ships are all in the 800 to 1000 ton range and are all flagged as Ling Standard. The ships flying in-system are 200 ton boats, non-jump drive in nature.
Your sensors also pick up three SDB's in orbit around Jenghe. It is a trifle interesting to note that all three report as Ling Standard ships, but as you watch the sensors you see another ship circle around from the shadow of Jenghe. This newcomer is ISS Lora 24 and the largest ship in system at 2500 tons. A quick check and you discover this is a Scout Tender used to service and supply smaller ISS ships. There are currently 2 100 ton Sulieman ships hanging from her like remora on a shark.

As the ship emerges from jump space, Doug feels a wave of nausea in his stomach, but it is slight and passes almost as fast as it appeared. No alarms, no flashing red lights. Everything in front of him is a sea of green lights. This was a nearly perfect emergence! The best he's seen yet on this ship, and he credits this to all the hard work he's been doing over the past months to bring everything into spec...not just into spec, but up to 100%!
He needs to report this to the Bridge and then shut down the jump drive, reconfigure the power plant, and power up the maneuver drive. After that is done he can start going over the logs, but from what he felt and now sees on the boards, he doesn't expect to find any anomalies in them.

Donovan thinks of the 66 tons of freight aboard to deliver here on Jenghe, and the 66 KCr that means! That's going to take a day and that'll mean time to pick up freight for Regina. Hum, maybe even sell some of the goods in the hold? Jenghe is a Low Law world and he might be able to sell the Dustspice here and Fastdrug, too!
Can't take a lot of time with the time crunch and someone chasing them, but still maybe 3 days in the Downport before jumping for Regina rather than the typical 6 or 7?

Anyone in engineering as they exited jump space would have heard Doug finish singing Well, you don't know what we can see. Why don't you tell your dreams to me. Fantasy will set you free. Not that anyone was around. He had a big smile at all the green lights. He flips the comm open All nice big green lights down here. Switching J Drive offline and re-configuring the power plant then switching M Drive on. You can hear his smile through the comms.
Once that his done he starts looking over the logs.

Donovan shakes his head. "I need at least three days to dispose of cargo, maybe make a few quick sales and pick up either freight or speculative cargo. With the low law level some of the reprobates in the crew may want to go shopping." He looks to Flighty. "Request permission to activate the transponder and start talking delivery and pickups. I assume we will run the same routine here with me as Captain."

She pauses then adds "I have been thinking on who may be who amongst those we have encountered - directly or indirectly. The Imperial Corporation identifying as The Quicksilver Academy on Axiom, Tremous Dex are who I think are hunting the New Chance but it seems that their actual field operatives might be pirates including renegade Sword Worlders. These may be identical with the group based on Dinom and supported by the Imperial noble there. This was mentioned in the papers you found from the wreck on Pequan. I think the crew of that trader may have been Imperial agents or bounty hunters working in Arden. That's why they were shot down...".
She then bluntly "That's one of the ways it all fits together...".

The companies you are delivering freight send automated replies all acknowledging your presence and them scheduling pickup times within the next 24 hours.
Jenghe has been directly governed by Regina as a protectorate since the 'Moon Fall of 71' with Baron Darius hault-Skyos being the current Governor. Ling Standard Products (LSP) has an exclusive contract to operate seabed mining, the major ' industry on Jenghe. Several small companies (all of your freight are going to them) operate mining, salvage, and farming. In fact, the Library mentions farming as an area of special interest for development on Jenghe as its dense atmosphere and high CO2 levels make it ideal for that purpose.
Looking for local Export Agents that could help you find freight and possibly speculative cargoes gives you four leads:
- Marie Lister - LSP
- Tunis Sark - Jenghe Distributors
- Milton Galstan - Linton Valley Cooperative
- Estie Tolldocker - Heart of Oak
Marie Lister's office replies to your inquires with a canned message, "No business opportunities are available at this time for non-LSP ships or contractors."
OOC: Are you are looking for freight to Regina only? Are you also looking to buy/sell spec cargo?

The run in to Jenghe goes smoothly and you begin descent into Jenghe's thick atmosphere. The first thing you notice is the winds. In the upper atmosphere the winds are strong and they only get stronger as you descend. The flying is a bit tricky as the winds buffet the ship in different ways as it moves from level to level down toward the surface.
The surface of Jenghe is almost completely water covered with only a few islands, here and there, poking up from the dark purplish waters below. As you round the planet you note a large, 2000 ton, ship lifting from the island where the Starport is located. The other ship is heading in your direction, rather than away from you, and passes about 40 miles to Starboard of you with no acknowledgement of its passing. Flight Control communicates with you several times insuring your compliance with your flight path and only signs off as Dealer's Choice stops to hover over its designated landing pad near the Terminal Building, with the final reminder that "The Doctor, Port Officer and Utility crew will be with you momentarily."
As you came down you observed that the Starport is on, for Jenghe, a large island with a smaller island nearby. Jenghe's Port town is a semi-circle around the port and shares a sheltered bay with it. There are a few tall buildings visible from the air as you fly over the town toward the down port, one is obviously new and glitters of glass and steel with LSP displayed prominently on it's upper levels. Another building is much older by appearance, four stories tall, a full city block across, and is shaped like an octagon. The town is separated from the port by a narrow green belt with high wire fences on either side of the greenery. You can see a stream of trucks moving through the one gate connecting the port to the town.
Moving slowly over the tarmac above the landing pads you see six ships on landing pads and several sea going ships docked at wharfs along the bay front. The wharfs extend beyond the Down Port's fences where more ships are docked...strictly local trade you assume. There are whitecaps on the bay and out in the ocean beyond. The ship continues to be buffeted with winds all the way to landing and from the whistling over the exterior microphones continues to blow close to a gale even after landing.
Dealer's Choice's landing pad is about 300 meters from the Terminal Building and there is a small warehouse just behind it. Low rammed earth berms enclose the landing pad and will give your ship some protection from any low flying objects.
When Dealer's Choice settles on the tarmac with bellowing clouds of dust that sweep away almost in an instant amid the winds, you see a utility vehicle rapidly approaching. The vehicle pulls to a stop near your ship and several people hop out. Two in Port Authority uniforms and three more in coveralls. The figures lean into the wind as they walk toward your ship.

Donovan informs the three brokers that he will meet them later in the day at the Octagon Society in the Planetfall Library. He will mention that he has radioactive's and iridium to sell and is looking for speculative cargo and freight to Regina.
Donovan scans the departing ship looking for a transponder for any distinct marks.
When Sigrun speaks up he laughs. "I will leave the weaponry and explosives to the reprobates. One thing to look into would be rigging makeshift booby-traps or barriers to slow boarding parties. We need to talk about these links to shadowy corporations you mentioned with the whole crew."
He calls Zaki. "Can you meet me down in the cargo bay to go over health records with the locals? I'm headed down there now."

She then checks that she and Donovan are alone and states "I can confide in you. On the jump here I have had terrible things invading my mind...".
Clearly disturbed she continues "Visions and seemings - things that I won't even share with Zaki".
She takes a breath "You have knowledge of the Imperium and it's depravities. So... you can tell me... what is... a "Barbie Girl"?"

She confesses "I'm no expert with explosives but if we buy bespoke charges and detonators for what we need then it's just a matter of electronics to set them off. That's the way I did it before..." she states with mild surprise and then shows her white teeth in a grin "... I remembered!"
"If we can't get explosives we can rig the air locks to overpressure and pack them with sharp scrap and flechettes to tear vac suits but that won't be much good against boarding shields or hard armour. We really need grenades...".
Changing tack she comments "Bows are very good for sentries. Jenghe should provide us one but it's a waterworld so they might lean into spearguns". She brightens "If we ask Doug what materials and components he would need then he could make you either a steel or composite bow while we jump to Regina!"
Re: 002 Jenghe/Regina (1810) C799663–9 [056/1085]
Donovan and Sigrun chat about dreams as they walk toward the air/lock where they find Zaki already waiting for them. The small screen shows that a pair of Port Authority officers are waiting outside on the tarmac, at the bottom of the gangway.
OOC: Flighty has finished shutting things down on the Bridge and is free. Doug has gotten the ship's system switched over to ground operations and could deal with the Utility folks as they hook Dealer's Choice to Shore Utilities by exiting the aft air/lock. Karcsi is free from any immediate responsibilities so could do whatever. Where are Flighty, Karcsi and Doug and what are they doing?
Behind them lounging against the side of a utility vehicle are three more people in coveralls. All five are wearing filter masks and another glance at the screen to see the readings from the sensors shows an abnormally high level of Sulphur in the air outside. It is going to stink like rotten eggs outside, and from the levels you see you'd probably be knocked out in under an hour and dead in three if you run around outside without a working filter mask.
One of the Port Officers reaches forward and presses the button on the bannister of the gangway and you hear a woman's voice through the speakers, "Jenghe Port Authority requesting permission to board."
