Delve #1 - The Adventure Begins

On hearing Thargus rolls out of her cloak and grabs her weapons and shield.

Octavios quickly rises and readies himself for trouble.

When none is immediately apparent he lends what natural experience he can muster to help identify the scale - if Alishar is not quite in a speaking mood.

Niphon

What a curious dream. You were there and you were there and you were there and I don't even know what a Can Saws is?

Niphon rolls out of his bedroll and grabs a dagger and his component pouch.

Gelli

With his red cloak on he will grab his sword and see what is going on.

Basilday the 8th of Molivios 2993 AEP 12:10 AM

As the party rushes out into the frigid night, they find their companion, Alishar, facing out over the valley with his back to the shelter. He does not appear injured. His mouth is open as though he is screaming and his eyes blink but his muscles are rigid and he does not move even as the rest of the party comes out to investigate. Octavios moves to the scale laying on the switchback near Alishar.

[Rex]

Athena

"Don't touch that. Here, use my spear to slide it into the fire light."

She looks over Alishar. "Help me get him back inside the cave."

[Doctor Crunch]

Niphon

Niphon will stay alert, but stay in the cave mouth.

Octavios peers at the strange thing and the effect that it has seemingly had on their comrade - or was it something in the darkness that caused him to react that way...?

He helps scoot the scale into the light without touching it.

Thargus

Helps Athena taking Alishar out of the cold, then gets back right out to stand with Octavios as they poke the scale.

Gelli

Gelli will wait to see why Alishar is not moving. Wondering to himself if magic is involved.

Octavios peers at the scale once it’s in the light - and then suddenly stands with hands on his weapon. He peers into the sky and whispers a warmimg to the others, “this is from a dragon! A green one - and big! It won’t be friendly!”

[Rex]

Athena

"Maybe it charmed him or something like that. I hear you are not supposed to look a dragon in the eye, maybe that is what happened here."

Once into the fire light, the party can tell that there are no physical injuries on Alishar. As Octavios examines the dragon scale, Alishar slowly regains his facaulties and begins shaking with fear. Gelli calms his elven brother and get him to provide some details of what happened:

I went out onto the ramp to make sure there was no one coming down toward our camp but there was a sense of dread in the air as I left the cave. As I moved to check below, I felt a change in the air and the moon was hidden by what I thought were clouds but was a massive flying animal. Before I could turn to get inside to warn you, the animal dove down and I became overcome by fear. I could not move! The great beast flew down right at me passing by the ledge; close enough that I could have brushed it as it flew by. I thought I was going to die. I have never seen a dragon except in paintings until now.

Niphon

Niphon fetches out his notebook and quill. Tell me, what did the dragonfear FEEL like? He begins to take notes while probing for details.

[Rex]

Athena

"A dragon hunting at night. We need to make sure we have cover if we are camping outside at night. And everyone needs to stay inside the cave until dawn."

Gelli

"We are glad you are still with us. That is a frightening tale without a doubt. Athena is right is is more reason to be cautious."

[Edeldhur]

Thargus

Still dumbfounded at the notion of a dragon flying around, Thargus stands mouth agape and staring into the darkness for a few moments, before returning inside.

Alishar relates how the fear felt: “As I stepped out into the night, I felt a sense of foreboding. Then there was darkness that crept across the moon bringing a chill that bit into my bones. Finally, I saw the creature diving from above me and I had the overwhelming sense that I was prey and I was standing before something that could end me with a mere flick of its claws or a breath of searing flame. I wanted to run but my I was frozen in place.”

"It is going to be all right Alishar, you are safe now."

Niphon continues to take notes.
