"Lets search the switchback like Athena suggested first" - Thargus commented, then assisted Athena with the search.

It looks like we have at least four more switchbacks to go through, and then the top. The next stretches all look kinda shorter than the one we've completed now, so that is good :P
Anyone else noticed the next switchback seems to have a cave opening or something?
Athena

You could be right, but often art is not the best indicator so we will likely have to wait and see.

whomever is checking please give a d6 secret door check and your X in 6 chance to detect. It will take a turn for each check.

Thargus is right the next leg which heads west back toward the colossi of Arden looks to be shorter, less icy, and Mudlark estimates it will take another 3 hours of climbing. Which will be when the sun will have set in the west. There does appear to some opening at the switchback.

Demmesday the 7th of Molivios 2993 AEP 2:10PM

Despite a thorough examination of the cliff face on the switchback, the party does not detect any secret doors. Their pursuers appear paralyzed with fear and have not moved since their comrades fell from the Stair.

Athena

If she thinks we have enough daylight left to make the next switchback. "Lets get moving again, we need to make some progress."

Demmesday the 7th of Molivios 2993 AEP 5:00 PM

After 3 hours of climbing as the sun begins to slip below the horizon to the west, the party reaches the second switchback and looking out over the dark valley from an altitude of 750’. There has been no sign that the pursuing caravan guards and the party cannot tell if they moved up or down after their compatriots fell from the Stair. As Mudlark reaches the switchback, she sees that there is a 20’ wide carved entrance into the cliff face.

With the sun setting, climbing in the dark would require light sources and more danger.

Agreed, although I think we should light torches and at least examine the cave mouth. We need to acertain whether threats could come from that direction.

Octavios takes a few minutes to scout the ground around the entrance to the cave for any signs of occupants.

There are no signs of traffic going into or coming from the entry way. There are signs of passage on the Long Stairs but not from today. In the failing light it is difficult to see to the bottom of this leg but it does not appear that the pursuing caravan guards have made it to the first switch back. Any further investigation will require a light source.

Athena

Can we huddle just inside the opening to give us minimal cover?

The opening is 20' wide and is deeper than can be discerned with the light you currently have

With his infravision and dwarf innate abilities, Gundren can tell that space beyond the opening appears to be smooth rock cave approximately 30' x 30' and that there are no heat or cold sources in the space but without light cannot tell much more than that.

Athena

Athena will huddle up against one wall, about 3 or 4 feet inside to get out of the wind some.
