Barin frowns "A festival? A good dwarf died not a few hours ago." he throws a look at Keaton "I'll be celebrating nothing. But I will raise a toast and drink in his honour."
"Ya don't say?" Carp asks, his face serious for the first time since you've met him. "That's a shame. Who was he? One of yer kin?"
Carp stands still as if he is about to listen, but then he stops Barin from answering, "But the feast will go on as planned, for ya see, it is an annual feast we do here in the town. It's our apple festival and we've had several barrels offloaded in the past few days, and already many of the ladies are preparing fer apple pies and cakes and such. Ah, it's not something to be missed and I'm glad yer here fer it!"
Moan raises his tankard. "A celebration of his life then. He is not forgotten and among my people to die in battle is an honor always worthy of celebration and sometimes vengeance too."
"Ah, there lad. I'll drink ta that!" Carp says, pouring him another tankard of mead, and pouring Grumble two! "That'll turn yer frown upside round! Ha ha!"
Missy wears herself to tatters running back and forth fetching soup and trenchers and more soup and more trenchers for the hungry travelers. "Gonna need someone with big strong hands to rub my feet after all this is done," she says aloud, trying to catch the eye of one of the companions who are now stuffing their faces or well into their cups.
His cheeks rosy red and his nose too, Carp can't stop smiling, and he asks in general, "What brought ye all the way to the other side of the Realms, lads and lasses? Surely it twernt fer me soup and ale! Haaa!"

"What was his name?" Keaton asks Barin; ignoring the dwarf's glower. "The dwarf that fell in the skirmish." the young mage clarifies.

Ari listens as she eats her stew, holding her tongue lest she cause further ire in Missy. An apple festival, she thought. She might earn more than a few coins, festivals required music and song and she had both. Her attention is drawn away from those happy thoughts though as she hears Keaton ask his question of Barin. She hoped the dwarf wouldn't take it the wrong way.

Raz merely keeps eating and drinking making sounds of enjoying both and chuckling at Carp's commend about a food rub.

Re: Winter is Coming...to Port Llast
Whats his name Grumble mockingly repeats. "Whats the name of the dwarf I got killed" is what he should be saying.. Grumble continues to mutter.
Grumble stands and shouts To Kurzen Chistlesmith! He was one a hard worker, a proper rock crusher and one of the best craft brewers in the Hall!. Grumble drains his drink. An' now he's dead cuz' of an outsider... Grumble sits back down. Bring me another drink he calls out to no one in particular.

In a determined action, unlike anything the party has witnessed previously from the young mage, Keaton bolts to his feet.
"Watch your tongue!" he demands, glaring at Grumble. "I am going to beg you to think twice before targeting me with your words again.". The forcefulness of his words pales in intensity to the anger emanating from his eyes.
"I know many of you blame me for what happened. I will own some --" his eyes once again lock with Grumble's "-- of that fault, and it is something I will need to live with for the rest of my days."
"But no more, or this is where we part ways. Understood?"
Still on his feet, Keaton reaches down and lifts his cup with his right hand, gently sloshing the red liquid contained within.
"I don't know much about the dwarven afterlife, but may Kurzen's journey to meet with his maker be bountiful; filled with precious metals, piles of gems and jewels, and vast quantities of alcohol!"
He awaits a response from the rest of the table before returning to his seat.

Raz "Grumble, if I was a more experienced cleric i would have tried to resurrect your friend." he cuts in. "Unfortunately I have not practiced long enough to have access to pray for such a spell."

Grumble's red rimmed eyes lock with Keaton while drinking the toast to Kurzen but after he turns away and refuses to admit the human even exists.
He says to Raz Ye blame no shame. I follow Gorm Guluthyn and I also don't have the experience to bring a fallen comrade back.. He lifts the bronze shield symbol from the chain on his chest. I am charged with the defense of all me people. He drops the shield which falls back on to his armor with a clank. I wans't able to protect Kurzen and thats on me.

Dire Happenings and Lots of Grumbling!
Thurm - "We got news First Captain Haeromos Dothwintyl has disappeared" - Thurm grunted, the ale by now almost gone - "And that the quarry be 'tainted' or somethin' along those lines" - he added - "We are here to look into it"
For the first time since the companions arrived at the Jack and Saber, Bleermos Carp stops smiling. "Ah now, me friend, that's a double mess indeed, and me fear the clean up ain't gonna be to pretty. The First Captain's been missing fer...well, going on two weeks now. Was acting a bit strange afore that, and then one day, he was gone! We've searched high and low, even thought about delving into the old light house atop the ridge. In fact, one of the locals, a wizard named Brantas, is trying ta organize a search party ta go ta the haunted place. Ye won't catch me up there! Spooks and haints are not me thing, if ye no what I'm saying."
Carp takes a gulp of mead and then addresses the second part of Thurm's statement. "As for the quarry...well, ye'll be wanting ta talk with Trell about that; he be the quarry master. Seems they delved upon a sealed shaft; sealed with strange runes. Not Dwarven in nature either. Yep, lots of strange things happening around here lately, and those two are just the start!"
Carp and Thurm are interrupted by Grumble standing and shouting "Kurzen Chistlesmith! He was one a hard worker, a proper rock crusher and one of the best craft brewers in the Hall!. Grumble drains his drink. An' now he's dead cuz' of an outsider... Grumble sits back down. Bring me another drink he calls out to no one in particular.
"Watch your tongue!" Keaton demands, bolting to his feet, glaring at Grumble.
Some of the other Dwarves from Mithral Hall, and a few locals murmur at this display, but none venture to speak.
"Well said Keaton, lets put this behind us." Moan offers, raising his tankard of mead. "To Kurzen Chistlesmith!"
To which all the others in the tavern stand and raise their mugs. "To Kurzen!" "Clan Chistlesmith!" "Kurzen the Chiseler!" and so on, until they return to their seats as Missy runs herself ragged to fetch more ale and mead.
While Raz and Grumble speak of the dead and their gods, and Ari considers how she is going to earn some coins during the Apple festival, Mag watches the room from his corner table...and notices another man doing the same. The man is dressed warmly, perhaps too warmly for the room, but nevertheless, he is bundled up with a steaming mug of something in front of him and a small plate with what looks like a heel of bread. Every now and again, the man pinches off a piece of bread and puts it inside his cloak!
When Keaton explodes to his feet, the man leans forward a bit, sipping from his mug, smiling. He then takes a piece of parchment, ink and quill from a satchel at his feet and begins to write.
