Demmesday the 7th of Molivios 2993 AEP 9:00AM

The party slowly begins their ascent up the Long Stair using their ropes and spikes as well as using a technique called caterpilling. Mudlark leads the party up the steep ramp carefully climbing and staking lines for the rest of the party to attach. On the first hour of the climb the party reaches a point 180’ up the trail and 75’ above the valley floor as the ice and the steepness of the trail impede the progress of the party but everyone makes through the first hour without incident. In the second hour of the climb, the party progresses up the trail another 180’ and reaches a point of approximately 175’ above the valley. From this vantage point, the party can see the caravan on the western side of the Swift River making their way toward the bridge crossing the river. Thargus, Fez, and Mudlark carefully continue climbing without incident.

As the party continues their climb, they see the caravan cross the bridge and turn north toward the cliff and the Long Stair. Athena, distracted by the caravan’s movement, loses her footing as she is clambering up the trail (4+7 DEX < 22). Fortunately, Athena is tied off to Alishar who breaks Athena’s fall (6+17 > 22) before she slides to her death over the side of the cliff. Near the end of the third hour of climbing, Niphon steps onto a rock which gives away (12+DEX 8 < 22) and begins to slide toward the edge of the path. Gundren tied to Niphon succeeds (10+13 > 22) in keeping Niphon from plummeting to his death from a fall of almost 250'. The party has made it over halfway up the ramp (540 feet).

The caravan reaches the base of the Long Stair and six of the members begin to climb after the party. Gelli (8+10 < 22) looking back at the caravan climbers misses a step and begins to slide on the ice. A fall from these heights will mean certain death. Gelli has ropes attached Niphon and Octavios can they "catch" their party member?

Niphon and Octavios I need you both to roll 3d6 add your strength score. Your total needs to exceed 22, if you cannot do it individually, you need to have combined score of greater than 33 or you will also begin to slide and trigger STR checks by Gundren and Alishar.

While neither Niphon nor Octavios can individually stop Gelli's slide, their combined strength and the roping techniques make sure that the elf does not fall from the cliff.

I need another 3d6 roll from Octavios. Please add the roll to your DEX to equal or exceed 22 during the next hour of climbing.

After four hours of climbing, the party has almost made it to the first switchback. Mudlark estimates that another hour and they will get there. Unfortunately, the members of the caravan climbing seem intent on speed and have gained almost a 1/3rd of the first incline in their first hour of climbing.

"We are not sure they are foes" - the warrior pointed out - "So we need to engage them from afar, and make it clear they need to let us know who they are"

"True, but we should be prepared as if they are our enemies. Otherwise would be unwise."

Demmesday the 7th of Molivios 2993 AEP 2:00PM

Following another hour of slowly climbing the steep ramp, the party reaches the first switchback. As they have climbed higher and further away from the falls, there is less mist and ice on the broken flagstone path. Now having risen 450' above the valley floor, the adventurers can see for miles as Burdock's Valley spreads to east, south, and west. On the trail below the party sees that one of the lead climbers lose their balance, slip, and fall into one of the other climbers attempting to catch him. Both end up going over the edge of the path plummeting to their deaths at the bottom of the cliff.

The loss of their brothers in arms must have broken the other two pursuers as they stop their forward progress and sit on the ramp approximately halfway between the base and the party at the first switchback.

"Perhaps that will slow them down."

She will examine the switchback for any hiding spots or secret doors.

"I wouldn't be surprised if there are some hidden resting places along the way."

"Lets search the switchback like Athena suggested first" - Thargus commented, then assisted Athena with the search.

It looks like we have at least four more switchbacks to go through, and then the top. The next stretches all look kinda shorter than the one we've completed now, so that is good
Anyone else noticed the next switchback seems to have a cave opening or something?
