All. Been under the weather since returning from Christmas break with the family. I think adult children are worse than little ones when it comes to germs at the holidays. I am hoping to get a post up later today or tomorrow the latest.

OK, so I spent most of yesterday asleep trying to get rid of the crud which has infected my body over the holidays! I am feeling much better today and will be writing up the next post regarding the caravan.

We have 5 active characters

Dr. Crunch playing Niphos the Magic User along with his man servant Jarvis
Gurusql playing Gelli the Elf
Rex playing Athena the Cleric
Edelhur playing Thargus the Fighter
Ravenn4544 playing Octavious the Druid

We have the following NPCs who can be cut or kept on as you all see fit (if you decide to keep one or more of these NPCs, you can use them as the party's retainers with a loyalty score of 7 as a base, depending how they are compensated/rewarded I may modify their scores):

Jintu the thief
Mudlark the thief
Gundren the Dwarf
Alishar the Elf

(I am hoping Spearmint will return to the site soon so I am going to wait to NPC Fez. However, he has been gone for almost 3 months and I am not optimistic which makes me sad for a couple of reasons).

Once we complete the day, I will award Feats of Exploration XP bonuses

Onward,
Bruiser

I will take 1 or both of the thieves as a retainer if you want. Are we doing half shares for them?

They would earn a 1/2 share of XP for any gold and encounters. For example, if the party earned 2,400 XP by the time they get to the next "safe haven" with 5 PCs and 2 NPC retainers they PCs would earn 400 XP and the retainers would earn 200 XP. Feats of Exploration only get assigned to the PCs.

To keep the retainers there would need to be a payment and treasure share schedule drawn up but we do not need to do that until we get to a safe haven. They are going to stick with the party until then at least.

Sounds good, that is how I usually see it done. Just wanted to make sure.

I am fine keeping all 4 if some others are willing to run some too.

I'm happy to pitch in.

With both thieves, the only dwarf and one of the elves NPCed that's a lot of our detection and trap abilities in the NPCs. I'd just as soon see them run by the caller for actions, maybe with party suggestions either here or in the IC thread.

BaltoBruiser wrote: Wed Jan 15, 2025 8:41 pm I am going to post some ideas on rules for outdoor adventuring which I have gleaned from the new Dolmenwood books but I am not going to apply them tonight. Suffice to say, sleeping outdoors in the winter without a fire would be miserable and make it difficult for the characters to rest properly leading to penalties in their adventuring activities. However, since these were not rules which had been posted nor discussed I think it would be punitive to apply them to this situation. I am also going to say that the party moves a mile or so down the path before they veer off the trail into the woods going another half mile (800 yards) into the cover provided by the trees because I was not clear how far you all wanted to go.

Horasday the 6th of Molivios 2993 AEP 11:30 PM

The retreating party moves south along the path for about a mile and then into the woods to the west away from the trail and the river. In the dark the going is slow and it takes them approximately 90 minutes as they move cautiously attempting to hide their tracks as best they can. They find a little hollow where they can lay out bedrolls and their newly acquired furs to rest but do not light a fire for fear the light might alert any pursuers of their presence. Gelli and Octavios take the first watch while the rest of the party bed down for some needed rest. They are relieved by Thargus and Alishar at 2AM who in turn are replaced by Niphos, his manservant Jarvis, and Athena at 4:30 AM. The night passes without incident and Demmesday the 7th of Molivios dawns cold, clear, and without wind. What will the party do as the dawning sun begins to slowly creep in from the east?

Niphos, Thargus, Alishar, Gelli, and Octavios have all earned 192 XP from the prior day’s Feats of Exploration (I will post details for how I calculated as soon as possible; I am encountering an error right now).
Sounds good re: Dolmenwood - I have only read it in diagonal, but I do think they add some nice things to OSE. Including the Fighter Abilities which we are not using. Are we? :P

Can we add XP bonus percentage (5% in my case) to the XP?
